Basically, I NEVER do a traditional cut on a Padron 000 series.
A "light" v-cut is the way to go.
Yes, some cigars do best with a light V-cut, most do best with a medium V-cut, and some with a deep V-cut.
For me, these are the preferred tools:
Light V-cut = Xikar VX
Medium V-cut = Xikar VX2
Deep V-cut = Colibri V-cutter
Most cigars are great with the VX2, but occasionally I'll have to pull out the VX for loosely-packed cigars, or the Colibri for tightly-packed ones. All 3 of these V-cutters definitely have their uses.
By the way, the VX2 in both gunmetal and red look absolutely stunning. The gunmetal is like a muted chrome, and the red looks honest-to-god like an excellent metallic red car paint job. Both are flawless and highly impressive. Product photos DO NOT do justice to the in-person visual experience.
And of course, if your Colibri breaks within 2 years it's a pain in the rear to get fixed, and after 2 years, screw you pal. The Xikars have instant free over-the-counter replacements for life, for any reason whatsoever including dulled blades and finish problems, and everything else. Gotta love that.
