What I do care about, a lot actually, is that my grandkids have to hear our president, someone who should be setting a good example for kids say "Wacky Omarosa, who got fired 3 times on the Apprentice, now got fired for the last time. She never made it, never will. She begged me for a job, tears in her eyes, I said Ok. People in the White House hated her. She was vicious, but not smart." And followup with "she's a lowlife"

Would anybody here be ok with hearing your grandkid talk like that about another person?

Why was she hired to begin with? She had no skills for the job and the job was "created" so she could get paid.

never gave a chit about her, but will say that when she was "hired" I shook my head in amazement/amusement/bemusement...pick one.

It's not her fault she was hand picked to work in this White House. Crap on her now all you want, but it was a highly questionable selection in the first place that most of us knew was weird judgement.

To me, this raises more concern about him than Amaretto. Though not enough for a TDS diagnosis. This is People Mag fodder...

I dunno, he seems to feed some of Trump's most xenophobic and misogynistic tendencies...he was a leading advocate for the unfortunate "zero-tolerance" policy that intentionally took children from their parents after they were apprehended crossing the border illegally. He was known to have advocated that as a strong deterrence to illegal immigration...

"law enforcement" always has an element of discretion, based on values and norms of society...I remember in the academy an example of strict enforcement: citing a pedestrian for jay walking in the middle of a long block at 3 am when there was zero vehicular traffic...it was considered unethical practice of law enforcement...

Our legal system calls for specific legal consequences for criminal violations: fines and jail time. Having your children removed from your custody and sent to places without your knowledge is not a Constitutional penalty for misdemeanor violations...

That's all good for citizens, but we're talking about people that aren't citizens. You can't just let them in because it's a misdemeanor, you have to process them. If they clog the system and are detained for who knows how long, well, how ever long it takes is how long it takes... but you can't just open the flood gates.

If you open the flood gates then everyone would do it. We got enough problems in this country for our own citizens, we don't need more problems. At some point we have to fix our own sh*t, and it'll never happen if you just open the borders for everyone... because all that'll do is cause more problems.

What's the point of having rules if you're not going to enforce them.

If I accidentally move a golf ball with my golf club before I hit it, then my gambling buddies make me take a stroke (and vice versa >:).

Which enough people complained about apparently and the rule is going to change in 2019...

Same concept, if you don't like the rules... change them, but while the rules are in place, they should be enforced.

That's my opinion anyway.

He could have enforced the rules while making an effort to identify and detain the parents and the children within the same facilities, or in close proximity, so that permanent or even prolonged separation would be minimized. However, the intent was to punish illegal border crossers and to send a message to others who were considering coming to the US with their kids...


Kinda like the "message" that was sent to other blacks in the South of the early 20th century when a young man was beaten, castrated and lynched with his privates stuffed in his mouth because he looked too long at a white girl...
