Up at 4;30, black coffee, four mile walk, cigar and paper on the patio and twenty mile exercise for the hot rod.

Now back to packing up. Have I mentioned how much moving sucks?

Found another big yellow jacket nest on the side of the house, under one of my ramps.

3 cans of raid and they were still all swarming.

Waited till midnight, dragged the ramp out in the yard, doused in lighter fluid and lit em up. Went back to the hole in the ground and did the same.

Hopefully that takes care of em

Nasty critters.

Wasp and Hornet spray, with the 20' trajectory always did the trick for me.

BURN, baby, BURN !

Hopefully that takes care of em

Yellow jackets are still swarming. Found another nest.

I'm not messing with them during daylight hours. Wait till midnight again.

Had my second attempt at making my own pizza last night, it was awesome. Pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage and black olives with a ton of cheese, mozzarella, parmesan, and a blend of various others.

It was friggin good. I estimated it to be about 500 calories per slice, pure awesomeness.

Homemade crust and/or sauce?

I've done it before completely from scratch and with assorted doughs and sauces....never found one combination really worth the work.

Or maybe I'm just lazy - but 17 bucks and 20 min round trip drive for a better pie than I ever kicked out

Long drive back from Tahoe yesterday. Made the mistake of taking the scenic highway to stop by emerald Bay... Apparently everyone else in the world did too... Didn't bother stopping there, but that route committed us to a 2 lane highway for the entire trip through the mountains. Added about 2 hours because of the stop and go traffic the entire way....

Yuck.

And the new hospice dog seems to have gotten sick overnight... So the woman is taking her in to the vet today.

Nah, I found some seasoned dough at Trader Joe's and they have some pretty good marinara right next to the dough. So I just use that with a light layer of butter on the pizza pan. Bought a couple nice pans from Bed Bath & Beyond.

I would consider making my own sauce, but as cheap and tasty as the pre-made dough is, not worth the effort.

Edit:

I like mine better than any pizza place. They all suffer from the same criticism, not enough cheese even if you order it with extra.

Edit #2:

Also used thinly sliced Boar's Head pepperoni and made a 2x layer over the initial layer of cheese that included the blend of cheeses, then another layer of mozzarella on top of the layer of pepperoni to hold down the rest of the toppings.

Sounds good b... not sure it qualifies as "making your own pizza" though... jarred sauce I'd overlook, but if you're not making your own dough, aren't you really just assembling a meal as opposed to making pizza?

...so the vet thinks the dog vomiting is "probably cancer"... Well duh... That didn't take a rocket surgeon... Poor girl has a mammary tumor the size and shape of a testicle dangling between her legs.

So now she goes to a specialist...

Dunno Opel...
If I spread some mustard on some bread... Add a bit of ham and cheese and horseradish... I say I made a sandwich. I could even put it in the toaster oven and make a fancy sandwich....

I don't care if it qualifies to you as making my own pie, I rolled the dough, put all the sh*t on it and baked it, as far as I'm concerned, I "made my own pizza". :P

Right... because if you went to a deli and they did that, that'd be what you'd expect... that's what making a sandwich entails ...

But if you went to a pizza place and they sprayed cheese in a can over the top of boboli and finished it with some diced slim Jim before tossing it in the microwave for 45 on high, you wouldn't consider that "making you a pizza"...

I don't know opel....Looks like Bean used quality ingredients and lots of them....I didn't see anything about spraycan cheese or slim jims...
If I made all that effort I'd say I made homemade pizza too...Applause

not so sure about cooking them in bedpans.....Think

Upon deeper thought, i guess there are differing levels of "making pizza"... i typically consider making your own dough the hallmark of true "from scratch" pizza... but to truly make from scratch, you'd have to milk your own cows and make your own cheese, make your own sauce, make your own sausage or pepperoni, on top of making your own dough... i doubt anyone really does all that...

I guess what I'm saying is, if you have a pizza, you didn't build that pizza... somebody else made that happen...

Just because I outsourced the tedious sh*t, doesn't mean I didn't build the pizza.

I may need to get a pan. Used to have a couple heavy aluminum perforated pans that worked extremely well. Been using a stone for last many years and I don't think its quite as good. I always sprinkle pan/stone with cornmeal, but I read recently to mix some cornmeal into the dough -- welcome change....of flavor and texture

Ya, I thought about getting a stone, went with a couple of the heavy perforated copper plated ones they had instead.

I thought they did a great job, I don't regret the choice.

If I ever make my own dough, I'll try to remember the cornmeal.

The idea of adding cornmeal works great IMO. The best pizza I ever had was a small family place that made it that way.
