Anyone buy any now that they are on cbid?

If so, at what price?

Was thinking about sniping er... bidding on a box if I can get them at a decent price.

lol, been a while. When was the last time you tried one? I tried one when stinger came out here to AZ at the smoke shop, it was pretty freakin good.

I would pick up a box if the price was right and was one of the sizes I wanted.

I'm pretty sure at this point all stock has some age on them. Pretty sure that's why cbid has them up... they're trying to dump all they got left.

Not saying they're bad, but for an opus they're pedestrian at best... it's definitely no power ranger, and for the price I'd opt for something tatuaje...

Also, pretty sure cbid got a bunch of these a few years back... at that same time my local Indian casino smoke shop started carrying them too... they weren't allowed to carry the real opus stuff but they were allowed to carry the lost city...

Meh, Opus > Tatuaje all day.

I figure if I could get some torpedos around $200 I would probably do it. Pretty much only interested in the torpedos.. possibly the toros.

My fav regular Opus is the Perfection X #2.

Real opus, yes.... lost city, no... I'd take any of the skinny monsters over the lost city... it's the red headed step child of the opus family... the mere fact the cbid has them should be all the evidence you need that they're really not that good... you're paying for the opus band...

Ya, I read the reviews on them back in the day (and never bought any because of it)... but at the point I actually tried one, I think they had quite a bit of time on them, and it was pretty good.

Have you actually tried one?

I think i have but won't swear to it... if i did, i was disappointed... if i didn't, the reviews were written well enough to convince me I'd already tried one and been disappointed...

I know I've only smoked a few opus in my life... Was gifted a power ranger with several years on it from abrignac and it's one of the best cigars I've ever had...

Opus are one of the things I will always snap up a handful of if I walk into a store and they have them at a decent price... those and clearance LGs/LFDs :)

New LGs I get them on the other site (better prices).

The Lost City's I've only had one, and it was good... but not $30 good (I have a hard time buying any cigar over $20). Perfection X #2s, at most the locals in town go from $16 to $19, with a net price after tax right around $20 give or take a buck or two.

From my experience with the Lost City I had, it was on par with the baseline Opus IMO. If I could snatch up a box of torpedos for ~$20 per, I would probably bite... Not sure if it's possible though, thus the reason I started this thread.

To Cathcam:

When I was a wee noob, I actually liked the Anejo better than the Opus, but my opinion has changed drastically since then as most the maduros I smoke anymore are when I play golf. Usually a good maduro wrapper can take a beating. If I'm just chillin', I rarely choose a maduro any more (probably because I play a lot of golf). Anyway, if you see some Opus at a shpo, treat yourself, you'll probably enjoy it.

Definitely no to ab... i will smoke a handful of the filthy hooligans next year I'm sure, but other than that i can't do it... feel the same about avo... they were good when i was smoking all day everyday... now that I've cut back and am cutting back more, I've admittedly grown more picky... tatuaje and my father with the occasional fuente... got a box of jekyls not too long ago... and another cazadores sampler and lancero sampler coming...

I'm jealous of that age on that Jaime... mine was Indian reservation fresh... Once the kids are grown I'll start aging cigars again, but it's not in the budget to put things away for long periods of time at the moment... i had a good size collection when the boy was born.. unfortunately it was all cbid crap lol...

Ya, I don't smoke a whole lot anymore either. Most of my smoking is when I play golf. Even then, I used to smoke 2 or 3 a round, lately I've been smoking 0 or 1. I might (emphasis on might) go out in the back yard once a week or so. When I do though, I like to smoke something good. I'll probably smoke more once it gets cooler.

Ya, numbers made the same mistake, gave me a big ol' lecture about how LGC used to be good, yadayadayada... I think I've only had one LGC ever (might be mistaken on the number), came in a sampler pack long ago. I think it had an N on it if I remember right.

Thanks BGZ, I have also fallen for Drew Estate, in a big way. I infused 5 of their Undercrown Maduros with an excellent spiced rum out of Trinidad, the result was phenomenal.

High price, no flavor, like all Fuentes and Ashtons, and all Davidoffs except their Nicaraguan stuff which AJ Fernandez can do better at a fraction of the price, so who cares?.

Infused how? The usual way is an open container of spirits and the cigars nearby, both inside a sealed container, however lately I've heard that if you make the container a partial vacuum (e.g. using a Food Saver with a rigid container that won't collapse), the infusion is far better and happens much faster.

What did you do, and how did it work? Thanks.

I'm just joking, man. Everyone's palate is different. There's schitt I like that you hate, and vice-versa. I have friends who agree with me 100% about Fuente/Ashton/Davidoff, and a few others who think we're nuts. So while I may lose credibility with lots of cigar guys, others will respond with "EXACTLY what I've been saying for years!"

I remember in elementary school science class, they sent us home with strips of paper with some chemical on them, and we had to taste them and have our parents taste them and report whether or not each of us tasted bitterness, or nothing. It's genetically determined, and we'd use the results to make an inheritance chart. Pretty fun activity for science class.

Fun, that is, except when genetically-impossible results happened, meaning inheritance charts where mom and the presumed "dad" simply could not have combined their genes to make Junior. After several... problematical consequences of such results (*cough* absolutely livid husbands and sudden divorces *cough*), the activity was quickly dropped altogether by the school, and was never done again.

Take-away messages from all this:

1. Palates differ, and that's okay.
2. Some women can't be trusted.

With that said, I wish I had yours and numbers' palate, it would save me money.

Will do, not looking promising though, it's at 206 bid price + 6.5 shiping right now and it goes off tomorrow. I might keep an eye on them going forward and try to snipe one if the price is right.

Just keep an eye out, I sniped a box of Liga Privada T-52’s a while back for under 150, so it is definitely possible.

Not sure he meant it as an insult, but I don't really care if he did.

Different doesn't always mean better or worse, sometimes it just means different.

I was at a tasting event once, hosted by the president of a very large and famous cigar company. Test petit coronas were distributed to all, with just numbers on the band, and we were all asked to describe what was in them. I nailed them all, down to the different growing regions and approximate percentages of different kinds of leaf. Afterward as people filtered out of the room, he came up to me, shook my hand and said "you have an exceptional palate!"

So, I pretty much give zero F's about palate insults from random internet people! Herfing
