I'd be totally shocked if I could recall the names of more than three or four people that I saw at any single, specific high school party. No way in he11 that I'm going to rely on testimony from anyone that wasn't named as having been in that room.....some other random person who now says they saw Kavanaugh at this specific party? no fn way, I'd consider that reliable.
There is not going to be any physical evidence unless someone now pulls a photograph from their ass. So, I have zero confidence that any sort of investigation is going to be any more fruitful than sworn testimony from Ford and Kavanaugh.

First she says, 'sure, I'd be glad to come in and testify'....and then once the spin cycles starts, and this lawyer gets on board, it's "No testimony without FBI investigation first"...wtf is that? And then, the argument is "You're NOT going to put her face to face up against Kavanaugh on Monday!"....when I never heard that was the intent -- what I heard was one or more members of the committee offering her separate, or even closed testimony...that no details had been settled before the lawyer letter.....the whole thing stinks.

Even if Ford is telling the truth, the stink surrounding her is nasty

I do wish kavanaugh hadn't denied being at the party. I mean... I understand that if he didn't do it or really wasn't at the party.

But if he did do it... Then there would have been a relatively easy path through this. Admit guilt, express remorse, rely on a record of not sexually assaulting women since then. But now... If she appears credible, or if people come forward corroborating this, then we have him denying it in the present... Which is much less acceptable....

Just let the FBI investigate it. There is no reason not to other than the game.

I have been through numerous FBI background checks the most recent being about a year ago. If the allegation had not been made they wouldn't follow it unless they stumbled upon it which is not that likely. Now the allegation is out there. Investigate it. I have no doubt if an allegation is made against me, old or new, it will be investigated.... they won't just say oh well he passed the 5 or 6 he had before so all is good. Tha'ts a strange talking point to me.

It's odd to see folks supporting not investigating it and making assumptions. Investigate the damn thing. An impartial investigator worth their salt can likely shake the tree and give a better look. If it is fishy they are likely better than us at rooting that out. If not...same. If it becomes a he said she said so be it. It's dumb to rush just because our team wants to win.

No claim of actual rape... That doesn't really impact credibility. If she were making sh$t up for political reasons why wouldn't she go all in. It was 30 years ago .. proving or disproving actual rape would be just as hard as proving or disproving sexual assault.

She's ugly... (I never checked) ... Not really relevant. If I recall attractiveness isnt always a driver on these assaults. She wasn't from their school. She likely had less social connections and probably seemed an easier victim... An attractive girl from a connected family would have consequences... If you did a little research you'd find that attractiveness isn't necessarily linked to sexual assault.

"You know she was drinking"?.... In college I was at plenty of parties where there were people who only drank a couple. Or didn't drink... Again this is a piss poor argument not to investigate.

So you don't think the timing of it all smells fishy, and the players involved smells fishy... I get it, you don't like the guy because he's not some lib from San Fran that likes to hang out with trannies (my bad, but I forget the PC word of the week for them).

The only claim I made, is it smells fishy... nothing more, nothing less.

Nah man... You made a lot of other claims.
You claimed that her appearance would impact whether someone would assault her...
You claimed she was probably drinking if it was a raging party
And you claimed that her saying it was assault made it seem fishier....

I got nothing wrong with someone saying that the timing is questionable.... And that it's going to be very hard to prove anything 30 years later...

I was just disagreeing with you points I specifically identified.

After so many years, Ford said, she does not remember some key details of the incident. She said she believes it occurred in the summer of 1982, when she was 15, around the end of her sophomore year at the all-girls Holton-Arms School in Bethesda. Kavanaugh would have been 17 at the end of his junior year at Georgetown Prep.

At the time, Ford said, she knew Kavanaugh and Judge as “friendly acquaintances” in the private-school social circles of suburban Maryland. Her Holton-Arms friends mostly hung out with boys from the Landon School, she said, but for a period of several months socialized regularly with students from Georgetown Prep.

Ford said she does not remember how the gathering came together the night of the incident. She said she often spent time in the summer at the Columbia Country Club pool in Chevy Chase, where in those pre-cellphone days, teenagers learned about gatherings via word of mouth. She also doesn’t recall who owned the house or how she got there.

Ford said she remembers that it was in Montgomery County, not far from the country club, and that no parents were home at the time. Ford named two other teenagers who she said were at the party. Those individuals did not respond to messages on Sunday morning.

She said she recalls a small family room where she and a handful of others drank beer together that night. She said that each person had one beer but that Kavanaugh and Judge had started drinking earlier and were heavily intoxicated.

Ford said that on the night of the party, she left the family room to use the bathroom, which was at the top of a narrow stairway. She doesn’t remember whether Kavanaugh and Judge were behind her or already upstairs, but she remembers being pushed into a bedroom and then onto a bed. Rock-and-roll music was playing with the volume turned up high, she said.

She alleges that Kavanaugh — who played football and basketball at Georgetown Prep — held her down with the weight of his body and fumbled with her clothes, seemingly hindered by his intoxication. Judge stood across the room, she said, and both boys were laughing “maniacally.” She said she yelled, hoping that someone downstairs would hear her over the music, and Kavanaugh clapped his hand over her mouth to silence her.

At one point, she said, Judge jumped on top of them, and she tried unsuccessfully to wriggle free. Then Judge jumped on them again, toppling them, and she broke away, she said.

She said she locked herself in the bathroom and listened until she heard the boys “going down the stairs, hitting the walls.” She said that after five or 10 minutes, she unlocked the door and made her way through the living room and outside. She isn’t sure how she got home.

Ford said she has not spoken with Kavanaugh since that night. And she told no one at the time what had happened to her. She was terrified, she said, that she would be in trouble if her parents realized she had been at a party where teenagers were drinking, and she worried they might figure it out even if she did not tell them.

“My biggest fear was, do I look like someone just attacked me?” she said. She said she recalled thinking: “I’m not ever telling anyone this. This is nothing, it didn’t happen, and he didn’t rape me.”

Seems to be an awful lot she doesn't remember about that night... And then she flat out denies it even happened... Think

They can look for discrepancies or things that do and don't add up. Otherwise they should never do background checks or investigations. Its amazing the zeal in which folks oppose looking in to something.

If its proven shes full of sh1t go after her. And confirm.
If its proven (to whatever level) he's not being honest don't confirm.
If neither (as you suggest) confirm.

easy peasy. This we don't want to look crap is odd though. It's just part of the game folks claim not to play.

My point. Even if the FBI investigates it... what the hell could they possibly find to corroborate her story 40 fkn years later?

The dems are hoping to delay his confirmation in the hopes that they gain enough ground in the November elections. I hope they lose their asses on both counts. Repubs need to grow a fkn pair and just confirm him. If the shoe were on the other foot (like with Obamacare) you know damn well the dems would do it.

Hell, even the liberal SCOTUS judges are saying this is a political sideshow and he needs to be confirmed.

They could find others that remember him at a party he says he wasn't at etc. They can find lots of things that do or don't add up. Why ever do backgroud checks or check out such allegations if its futile? that's a cop out//// just playing the game.

And yes I get the desire to not delay and the desire to delay.

All that aside as this gets further investigated, and it will one way or another, I wouldn't and don't want my party to suffer the backlash that will happen if they cram this through and it proves true.

Which liberal scotus judges have weighed in?

I agree with what she said (just read it). I didn't read the needs to get confirmed part though, and it was before the allegation and has nothing to do with investigating or not.

Investigate and confirm if clean. If you read what I first posted I said I lean towards confirmation regardless of political lean which is what ginsberg is saying. I dont think she said anything about not investigating such allegations.

But yes the whole thing has been sad and a sideshow.

Another point to consider...

We're a country of second chances, right? Lets pretend (as Victor likes to do... not judging) that this allegation were true. It happened 40 years ago, when he was 17 and supposedly very drunk, according to his accuser, and his actions from that point forward have been impeccable.

I'd still say confirm him. He's highly qualified. If you watched the video of Ginsburg, I dare say he's 25 times more qualified than SHE is at this point.

I dunno... I expect, much like I don't read a lot of what you post... you don't read everything I post, either.

Tee... even if he flat out denied it, it'd be in the interest of self preservation at this point, right? Much like ol' Bill when he said, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman", when in fact he did. He got to continue to be president when he flat out lied about something PURPOSELY.

IF he was as drunk as she says... maybe he doesn't remember it, and that's why he denies it.

As I said, the guy is highly qualified, and since that alleged encounter, has been a perfect gentleman. I don't give a rat's ass if it's true or not, at this point, based on those facts. Confirm him.

The FBI could investigate Ford's claim, but only if the White House asks the bureau to do so. She has no authority to request it. Neither does the Senate. Trump saying it's not something the FBI does is ignorant.

Without asking other people who were there if Kavanaugh and Mark Judge were at the party that night it's a he-said-she-said dead end.

don't know if you have a daughter or not, but let's say your son was 15, and he tells you some 17 yr old dude did to him what Ford alleges Kavanaugh did to her...think that dude should be on the SCOTUS?

nevermind...just speculation ... and Kavanaugh refused to answer speculative questions posed to determine his legal views on a multitude of issues, so we can only use his past ...

he has written that he believes a sitting President should be exempt from legal investigations ...what if there is some subpoena for Trump to appear before a grand jury and he contests it in court and the case goes before the SCOTUS...and Kavanaugh quashes the subpoena...that OK?

I don't hate Kavanaugh...but there are quite a few other well-qualified judges on Trump's list ...Trump went outside that list to find Kavanaugh...why?...McConnell originally advised Trump not to nominate Kavanaugh...why?

His comments were:

It would be appropriate for Congress to enact a statute providing that any personal civil suits against presidents, like certain members of the military, be deferred while the president is in office … Congress may be wise to do so, just as it has done for certain members of the military. Deferral would allow the president to focus on the vital duties he was elected to perform.

He stated this after flowing existing laws investigating Clinton .... But hey, something else to spin right..?? Mellow

here is what he wrote in the Minnesota Law Review in 2009:

“I believe that the President should be excused from some of the burdens of ordinary citizenship while serving in office,” Kavanaugh wrote. “We should not burden a sitting President with civil suits, criminal investigations, or criminal prosecutions.” Furthermore, Kavanaugh opined that the “indictment and trial of a sitting President” would “cripple the federal government.”

not spin...a direct quote...don't believe he was kidding...

Kavanaugh defended his position by saying that the correct solution for holding a President accountable is the impeachment process. This fails to consider the occasions when the House/Senate/Congress is controlled by the President's party. Justice would hinge on a slim chance that Congress would do the right thing and put country above party...
