I have a list of cigar manufacturers that I’m contacting to try and help a local shpo expand their retail selection. They have a newly remodeled building and a brand new walk-in humidor with way too much empty shelf space.

They already carry Cohiba, Montecristo, Rocky Patel, Gurkha, Arturo Fuente, CAO, Camacho, Macanudo, Nub, Oliva, RyJ, flavored DE stuff and a few other cheapies. I’m sure I’m missing a few brands but that’s the main ones that they carry already.

Here’s my list, who am I missing? The ones with a - behind their name are ones I still need to contact.

AJ Fernandez ✔️email sent
Ashton ✔️email sent
Caldwell -
Crowned Heads ✔️email sent
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust ✔️email sent
Drew Estate -
Illusione ✔️email sent
Tatuaje ✔️email sent
L’atelier - email tat rep
My Father -call
Kristoff ✔️email sent
La Flor Dominicana ✔️email sent
Padron ✔️email sent
Perdomo - ✔️email sent
Room 101 ✔️email sent
Viaje -

Any others that are making great cigars right now that I should contact? Thank you for your help!!

From my experience, and it could be totally different because I'm in CA, most of those listed are simply Going to refer you back to a local distributor that you are already familiar with... Illusione would be one exception that I encountered... But they want a contract and a nice chunk of your humidor... Same with lfd...

You need to stick to classic brands. None of this fad gimmicky ****. You MUST get these brands:

Joya De Nicaragua
Boilvar
Cao Brazilia
Partagas Black
Puros Indios
Montesino

Then you should get the guy to stock some good affordable smokes for those brothers that want to get a decent smoke without spending at least 6 bucks a damn cigar. I’m talkin brands like La Finca, Don Felo, Alcazar, Conuco, Hampton Arms....

Since we’re taking the shotgun approach, how about:

Black Label TC
Cornelius & Anthony
Espinosa
Ezra Zion
Foundation
La Palina
PDR
RoMa Craft
Warped

Another consideration is to perhaps expand the skus for each of the current brands to help differentiate themselves from their competitors.

Perhaps the merchant doesn't do enough business yet to support the varied, and possibly excessive stock you propose...

All good suggestions on more brands and I’m not sure about distributors but most of the companies I listed have cigar reps that cover Kansas.

The only problem with expanding the skus that they already carry is that they’ll just fill their shelves with more Rocky Patel and Gurkhas, the shop is nice but they don’t know boutique cigars that well if at all. I’d say most cigar smokers know what Tatuaje is, they’d never heard of them when I asked for them. That’s what got this idea started.

They don’t have to carry every brand that I’ve contacted but atleast the companies rep will know they’re in business and they can’t sell it if they don’t have it.

Good luck cobra... Try to talk the place into carrying a couple of boxes of something that will move fast... They'll like your advice and consider it more often.....

In my experience, cigars that can be had for cheap online, especially at auction, aren't gonna move well... Similarly, robusto's, corona's, and lanceros tend to sit around a little longer...

Jaime Garcia Especial toro's are a great deal for the shop and the customer... Tat blacks and padron 64's are great if you have the audience for them...

That’s pretty spooky. Not that Pete Johnson / Tatuaje are world famous but yah, to the majority of “serious” cigar smokers, it’s a known brand. To me, this raises some red flags and really question if the shpo will be able to handle the (...sudden...) upgrade in inventory and knowledge. Smaller incremental brand additions as well as finding knowledgeable workers might be a more pragmatic and viable plan.

Best of luck to the shpo and your efforts to help them. ThumpUp

Yup that’s nearly what I was going to suggest that they carry. Jaime Garcia petit robustos for a quick smoke going into winter here, Tatuaje Cojunu capa especial, and Padron 64 maduro diplomaticos.

Indeed and I have been telling my contact at the shpo details about the companies that I’m contacting so they won’t be in the dark completely.

A box of crowned heads la imperiosa, Padron maduro and Tatuaje (fill in the blank) would improve their shelves quite a bit.

Thank you, I hope this works out well. Some things where a person is just trying to help have the tendency to blow up in ones face. Bombed

Owns (or at least runs) Tobacco Leaf ...If I lived anywhere near Jessup, it'd probably be my only shpo.

I highly recommend getting to know him. Friendly, knowledgeable, great to deal with...and the shpo is a great place to hang out, too
