I was curious about this after the Pelosi redux, so I looked it up.
Apparently, the Speaker is third in line to be President if something happens to the POTUS and VP.
Speaker does a lot of ticky tack stuff with oaths and committees, etc….but what I found interesting was the Speaker also determines the House legislative agenda, and which legislation reaches the House floor for a vote.
I was under the impression that any member of Congress could introduce legislation for a vote, but I guess that's not the case. It seems to be a pretty powerful position to be in. Whoever has the Speaker’s ear seems to have a lot of say as to what happens legislatively in our government.
I wonder who has Pelosi's ear?
