light your first candle at sundown.

small, bittersweet celebration at our house this afternoon. not making latkes as rain is expected and I make them in an electric skillet at the end of the garage with the door open...so we bought some from a deli in Brookline MA, where lots of Jews live! HA!

I know t-gerbs will be disappointed, but no latke is great enough to risk electrocution.

Frank, may you and your family have a great Chanukah celebration. BTW, did you misspell "Chanukkah" in the thread title or this some special spelling that only Jewish folk are allowed to use?

David

being a man of a certain age, the CH is correct as it stands for a different letter than just an H in the Hebrew alphabet...and the holiday is pronounced with a first letter that sounds like you are clearing your throat...or like the German "ach".

As for the double "k", that's how it was spelled most of my life, but I guess now the extra K is for Kosher?

And thanks everyone. You guys never let me down.

Huh... a man of a certain age?

I'm 49. Turned 49 yesterday. That's a certain age.

Be loud and proud, Frankie. Until your tripod no longer works as a kickstand... you got nuthin' to be ashamed of.

Doing well thank you. Growing, smiling, and laughing like crazy. 7 months old now but she still has some catching up to do being a premie and all.

You have to admit, an open face BLT on a latke would be pretty wonderful. Fresh garlic aioli, a sprinkle of arugula, some thick cut bacon and a slice of heirloom brandywine tomato. Top it with a cornishon for presentation.
