Talk about a slithery surprise.

A Texas man was shocked to find more than 30 rattlesnakes hiding under a dilapidated hunting shed at his ranch earlier this month.

Bobby Cowan and two of his friends were at Cowan’s property in Gorman to work on a windmill there, the San Antonio Express-News reported. At one point, the trio noticed a rattlesnake making its way under an old, abandoned hunting shed, prompting the men to use a machine to lift the structure in search of the rattler.

Little did they know that the elusive serpent wasn't alone. Dozens of rattlesnakes were hiding under the structure, a now-viral video of the event shows.

"We were definitely — what's the right word — freaked out, maybe," Cowan told the newspaper, estimating there were more than 30 rattlers under the shed.

"Very, very surprised. As soon as we lifted up the building, we slammed it right back down because there were so many of them,” he added.

The men decided to lift the shed once more, which allowed one of Cowan’s friends, Matt Stanley, to capture chilling footage of the snakes.

"We knew we weren't in that much danger if we didn't get too close, and so then we were able to look at them," Cowan told the newspaper, adding he's only come across a "handful" of snakes in more than a decade at the Gorman ranch.

The men then used long sticks and trash cans to remove and relocate the rattlesnakes to another part of Cowan’s property that was not near any livestock.

Cowan -- who told the San Antonio Express-News he counted 36 rattlers but said there could have been at least 50 -- later took to Facebook with the video of the snakes. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had more than three million views and 54,000 shares.

Bobby Cowan did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for additional comment on Wednesday.

Relocate my ass, I'm thinking big or maybe huge bonfire.

Texas man ‘freaked out ?

You mean to tell me a Texas man freaked out because he found a Den of rattle snakes........Blink

Wouldn't that be like going to the beach and freaking out because you found a school of sharks?

I am freaking out because a Texas person ran across something that is very natural in the state, freaks out and they associate the words Texas MAN. Should not the title read an idiot pus that lives in Texas freaks out over seeing a Den of rattle snakes because he evidently had no clue that there is a lot of rattle snakes in Texas and this is what they do?

Maybe I need to go back to Tucson AZ, move out to the desert, and freak out and video tape when I run across a den of 300 sidewinders. Throw it up on you tube then maybe that will make the local news as well uhh.

OMG I just looked out side and there are trees. OH MAN I am Freaking out! Any body got a camera? Somebody call channel 9 News now! jester Sarcasm

What happened to the "Texas Man" That would see that den and be like "OH HELL YEAH, friends and family will be getting boots and a belt next Christmas after I kill this money making patch of evil! Now that is, in my mind a "Texas Man" but I guess now they growing large puzzies there because every thing is big in Texas and that my friends is viral video and NEWS WORTHY! material Anxious

So, you hate Texas men more than a den of rattlers?

Just want to make sure the record is accurate or straight so to speak.

So that the record is accurate, I don't hate either one at all. Also for the record, IF I did hate rattle snakes, I would not live in Texas, Tuscon, NC or SC or any other place where rattle snakes are native to the area.

I don't hate the rattlers either, but through the years the few that I have encountered in the great outdoors have always been sent to snake heaven.

Come to think of it, the same can be said for copper heads and the many cotton mouths that decided to enter my comfort zone.

Never seen more than 10-12 in a den at one time in Az. But then I don't go looking around for them either.

Anyone that has lived in Tucson needs a checkup from the neck up.
Hope you didn't drink the water.

Rattlesnakes are native to the Americas, living in diverse habitats from southwestern Canada to central Argentina. The large majority of species lives in the American Southwest and Mexico. Four species may be found east of the Mississippi River, and two in South America.

I hate rattlebugs........the only good rattlebug is a dead rattlebug. We see them cross the road and we stop and kill them. All other snakes in my little slice of Texas are safe. With the exception one copperhead and two cottonmouth's I killed in this area over my entire lifetime. The rest of our slithering friends are non-poisonous.

Oh I have seen a den of sidewinders in AZ that had a few hundred of them spin tingling bastids while out hiking. In NC and SC I have seen a few dens that had maybe 10-20 timber rattlers. Dont get me wrong, I am scared chitless of snakes, but I don't hate em. At home in NC,SC Timber rattlers, copperhead's, cottonmouth's, and water moccasins was as common as pine trees. Well, if the majority of your time was spent in the woods hunting or just goofin off and such, which mine was. Snake guards was a typical part of the hunting attire because it was nothing to run across one of these bad boys with a day out in the woods.

Tried to overcome my fear of snakes by picking up a medium sized black snake a couple months ago. Chickened out.
