Wow. I thought 2.05 was great.

Perfect time to raise federal gasoline tax. A couple more dimes and we could fund a lot of the upcoming infrastructure boondoggles without adding another trillion to the deficit. Besides, gasoline usage will probably decline in coming decades and with it, the associated revenue. Been 25 years since it was last raised, and probably should have been indexed to inflation, imo...but was not.

States have been increasing their fuel taxes as a result of the low prices.. Trump asked for a 25 cent per gallon increase last year but was given a hard time for it... As usual... Mellow

You might just as well take out a five dollar billl and set it on fire each time you gas up. At a safe place away from the pumps.

Going to need to tax E cars/trucks in the future years to fund infrastructure. Still a very small total of the vehicles but will continue to grow.

Don't recall Trump talking about gas tax. I thought we missed the chance back about nine years ago as the recession eased a bit, but gas prices started to climb. Americans showed they will tolerate gas north of $3...maybe not quite $4. If it isn't taxed more now for highways and other transportation, big oil will get it back there anyway and you spend the same, but the deficit takes the hit

Is there a proposal out there now to pay for the upcoming infrastructure deal(s) that doesn't double the deficit?

Trump "endorsed" a gas tax back in Feb. I don't know what happened to it... He didn't get a hard time for it from any group I see, that part is just drafter's fanciful imagination.

I even can find an article from The Hill saying trump should avoid the "gas tax trap Democrats are setting for him"...

The parliament of whores can't even produce a budget, I can promise you they will borrow more money to fund anything they pass.

I don't believe there are any members on congress on either side who give a flying f*** about deficits any more. Can't remember the last time anyone proposed a meaningful plan to reduce them.

As I remember there are only a handful of countries that are in worse shape than the US in term of national debt compared to GDP. Maybe the Greeks and Japan.

CA has the second highest gas tax among the states, and yet our roads and highways are in bad shape...

on top of that, we've approved several bond measures for highway maintenance and construction...and yet our roads and highways are in bad shape...

too many people, trucks and cars ... poor management of highway funds...earthquake standards drive up construction costs...

Gotta fund that pollution spy satellite. State politicians spent the money on other things. Years ago high gas tax funds were spent on roads and California roads were some of the best in the country.

true...the parts in rural areas and that connect the urban areas are mostly, still great...those in urban areas are messed up...

always a battle to get the local cities and counties to partner up with the states for road improvement projects...

then the additional hassle of coordination to fix federal highways that go through major cities...planning, funding and timing is so convoluted that many local politicians don't have the patience or willingness to make the effort...

The electrical infrastructure is in worse shape than the roads are. Both need an upgrade soon.

Whistle, you cut to the chase. I mostly agree with you. My only point of disagreement is the line item veto. In theory I think it is correct, but in reality I can't. I don't want Trump to have that power. I think you would have said the same about Clinton, but I could be wrong.

CA is a net benefit to the US...the state is among the twelve that sends more tax dollars to the feds than it gets beck...

the other states suck at their teats...

Except for all those California state tax taxes deducted from their Federal tax bill, but that might change this year.

the calculation takes that into account...

the new limitation on that deduction will push the state higher up the rankings among states that are net positives to the fed...

ironic that people in other states who gripe about illegal immigrants in CA may actually be getting benefits from fed tax dollars paid by them when they pay for food, services and products (tobacco, gas, liquor, etc)...

I'm not sure........there has to be a way to cut pork out of bills without the old you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. That kind of play is literally wasting billions of dollars.
