First off tail... The crap that gets forwarded on Facebook is the sensational crap. You're only seeing the sort of news article where people read the first sentence only. That's the crap that gets passed around.
And that's the crap that gets passed around on Facebook by both sides. So calling that "mainstream news" is defining Infowars as mainstream news. Hell, I've seen people forward articles from literally racist right wing news sources on Facebook (I can't remember the name of the site, but many of the articles on the site used the n-word and hated Jews). If you think only what you define as mainstream media gets forwarded on Facebook then you have more liberal "friends" than I do. And I get images on dudes in jockstraps.

Perhaps reading less sensational articles would help you understand things better.

I stopped doing Facebook a couple of years ago...very divisive, unpleasant environment....too much vitriol...odd and slanted stuff (right and left) being passed off as truth...

But some of the links go to the majors.

The kicker? I never said nor implied that "only" MSM gets funneled through FB. Yet that's your premise here.

Rman... I gave a nuanced write up of that in the past. No one here cared about the nuances. they just cared about a kicked homeless dude. So I've gotten rid of the nuance and just advocate homeless kicking. If you want the actual details and real situation you'll have to dig through the cbid search engine. I won't revisit it.

But let's not compare a choice with genetics.

How about hating a group of vegans?
Sure, I make fun of vegans. But I don't think they're evil and I don't hate them. Some of those chicks would be hot if they shaved on occasion and found a bar of soap or something.

Hell, I can think of a dozen jokes that I'd say if I saw a group of Catholic School teens at a Pro Life rally wearing MAGA hats.
But I wouldn't consider them evil.

News sources have lots of articles.
Even "the majors" have lots of articles. These articles are of a variety of levels of complexity.

The ones that end up on Facebook, even the ones from "the majors" are the simplest and most easily digestible articles. Because people are stupid and just want to read 2 sentences.

So if you're using Facebook to filter your information source, even if you only click on Facebook links to reputable news sources, you're still only going to see articles which are sensational and superficial.

When you say you use Facebook to supply your "mainstream news" you are admitting that you are only viewing "mainstream news" after it's been filtered and aggregated by people who post and share articles on Facebook. Think about that for a second. Why would you allow that to happen?

You are trying WAY too hard.

Instead of saying "I saw a link on social media", I prefaced my post by explaining the full extent of my social media. No reason to do it, but no reason not to. Didn't mean to confuse you, and it wasn't even the point of the post.
All I was doing was answering a question.

Every morning while drinking coffee and discussing my day with my wife and/or my daughter still at home, the local news is on. It's the Boston Fox channel. Gene Lavanchy went to college with my brother, and Sara Underwood is pretty hot.
If I'm home in time in the evenings I also turn on the news. NBC, CBS, ABC or Fox (local). Doesn't matter to me.

So in a given week I'll see the news about 8 to 10 times, including the weekends.

I listen to some talk radio on my drive to and from work.
Some conservative talk.
Some local NPR.
Some sports.

Usually it's music on the way home. Or recently some Learn Italian podcast on Spotify.

No magazines.
The only paper is my once-weekly local.

You want me to be lying simply because you've been exposed as the needy fool (tool?) you are.

Stop it.

I'm a lot of things, but a liar isn't one of them.
Although, to be fair, that's precisely what a liar would say...
