Wait, why can’t I identify as an asshhole even if I’m not an asshole? If it’s ok for a homo sapien with two testicles and a penis to identify as a female, then it should be ok for the nicest, kindest person the world has and will ever have the distinct pleasure to know to identify as an asshole even if he’s not.

He's reflecting his constituency pretty well.

It wasn't me!

He forgot to add, it was my cousin.

Before this guy gets crucified, how about an investigation into who at the East Virginia Medical School, yearbook editor looked at that and said..... "Yeah, seems dood."

Spartacus has had his own moments. When he was a college student, he wrote an article for the Stanford Daily, where he recounts an incident when he had sexually assaulted a fellow student when he was 15. There was also a incident a few years back. A man, who happens to be a gay Democrat, claims that Cory Booker tried to force him to perform oral sex back in 2014, when Booker had visited the man's work place. All victims must be believed, correct?

There is a photo of Hillary Clinton being kissed by a KKK recruiter and chapter leader (Byrd). Even Snopes has the photo on their site and states that it's true. So, using the logic of the left, that must mean that Clinton voters are dispictables who support the KKK.

A long forgotten video clip from ABC's "The View" resurfaced on Wednesday that showed co-host Joy Behar trying to explain a Halloween costume from when she was younger.

The clip was shared by The Wrap media editor Jon Levine. Behar was seen discussing a New York Times op-ed about the resurgence of curly hair during the show in 2016. Behar showed her colleagues and the audience a picture of herself with curly hair when she was 29 years old.

The show even ran an image of the old photo

The co-hosts appeared surprised by her drastically different look. Raven-Symoné, a former co-host, asked, "Joy, are you black?"

"I was so cute," Behar said.

"Joy... are you my auntie, Joy?" Raven-Symoné joked.

Behar explained that the picture was taken at a Halloween party where she dressed up as a "beautiful African woman" and stressed that it was her actual hair.

"Did you have tanning lotion on, Joy?" Raven-Symoné asked.

Behar responded by saying she wore makeup "that was a little bit darker than my skin."

The video resurfaced as Democrats in Virginia face intense scrutiny over their use of blackface decades ago. On Friday, Governor Ralph Northam offered an apology after a photograph emerged on his medical school yearbook page that featured a man in blackface and another in a KKK robe. He reversed course the next day, claiming he wasn’t in that photo but did admit to wearing blackface when dressing up as Michael Jackson for a costume contest.

Democratic Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, who had previously called on Northam to resign, released a statement Wednesday that he also wore blackface in college

Next week, news will report that VA Senator Mark Warner went to the beach at age 11 and only used SPF 15 sunscreen...because he was trying to get his skin to look darker.

But didn't want his skin to get red.

In 1984 I would have known black face was derogatory and wrong. I would have not considered it racist, those were different times with different standards, right or wrong. In 1984 I would have known black face standing next to KKK costume was racist.

I'm still struggling with the concept that dressing up like someone of a different race is automatically racist.

Being able to assign the term racist, to me, requires a clear understanding of intent, or belief that you can unquestionably 'know' the prejudices of the accused. I know little about Mark Herring...or Behar.....or Megyn Kelly....or Z....but, until I do, I think I'm satisfied that darkening their skin to costume as a black person shouldn't necessarily be judged as a racist action....assuming it is done without some sort of exaggerated and/or demeaning black stereotype additives....seems to me things are a little out of controls atm....nevermind that fact of interceding decades of time.....I mean, even felons get statute of limitations relief after less than 10 years for most anything short of rape or murder

I'm not talking about the KKK pic -- been a lot of years since anyone could have thought that was actually ok....

Dstieg... Her testimony sounds credible.
I think you're not seeing anyone lining up behind her because there's no opposition. I haven't seen anyone pushing to keep Fairfax (or make him gov if the team of blackface guys all step down).

The entire thing is being played out by one side. So you're not going to see the polarization that we saw with kavanaugh. No one needs to really defend this woman because no one is attacking her.

I see nothing wrong with just clearing the whole bench in VA. Sounds like the entire government is run by idiots.

we are making progress towards racial equality...

at present, being an open racist is repugnant...and those with perceived racist behavior in their pasts are often called out, sometimes suffering loss of position and status despite decades of ostensibly exemplary conduct...

a generation ago, it was deemed harmless, and popular among a significant portion of the population, to wear blackface, or engage in other racially insensitive behavior ... whether to mock or demean, or for some innocuous purposes - entertainment.....

a generation before that it was legal, authorized and written into our laws, to discriminate against blacks and all sorts of minorities...

and a generation before that, people could hang minorities to death without consequence in many places in this country...

although we are making progress, there are those who still think our nation was great all those generations ago...

Well...then just wait a minute or two....watch what happens when they realize that after clearing the bench, they allowed a Republican walk right into the big chair.....a Republican who is only in that position because he drew a long straw....you cant make this stuff up

I mean... Personally I don't care. But it'll be interesting to see it play out.

Probably just be easier to find photos of him in blackface than to try to keep Fairfax.

... But he's republican, so that won't cause him to step down... Even though the photos will be from 2017... :)

Pretty much with you, Dave.
I thought Halloween and costume parties were when people got to dress up/pretend to be characters or animals or anything they want, whether the character is good, evil, or just different...and it doesn't have to be a statement of personal feelings.

I see a distinction between costumes and demeaning team mascots though.
But even I have a problem when certain groups want the local high school Blue Devil mascot changed.

He shouldn’t have to resign over this, it happened 30 years ago and as stated very well in post #76. I’m tired of this political gotcha game without full context, it’s exactly like interacting with Victor. His handeling of the whole thing was worse than what he did.

I dressed up as Louie Armstrong in junior high when I played trumpet. I loved his voice more than his playing but I thought the handkerchief was cool as hell..... nobody thought it was racist, I looked up to the guy.

My point is you can’t easily measure intent. Words aren’t a fair measure either, just a faint indicator.

in 1965, I tried to pattern my batting stance and swing to be like Hank Aaron, but I did it in white face.
I meant no harm. I was 12 years old.

But like Lois Armstrong to Z, I admired the master of his craft.

side note...I am of the belief that Armstrong was the single greatest influence on "American" music of anyone. Most of what I like by him came decades before Wonderful World and Mame.
His trumpet and coronet would fly above the orchestra.

Louis was way cooler than Lance, but Neil nailed it...

back to the OP: so, if these guys had R after their names, this would be a nothing burger? hmmmm...Trump got elected with more baggage....Steve King still in office...Roy Moore narrowly lost...

I get that 30+ year old non-criminal stuff can be explained...but you have to compare that stuff to the accomplishments since and the explanations for that behavior...many people who displayed racially insensitive behavior in those days are still racially insensitive...and some of them occupy positions of power...

who's out of touch...GOP used to be the Law and Order party...has there been another shift in platforms?
