Get his wall funding while the Republicans controlled the House and Senate? This has confused me for a bit of time. Is there something I am missing?

Not just the wall. Republicans didn't get much of anything done. I think there are two ways of looking at it:
1. Senate cloture allowed obstructionist dems to derail everything. Or,
2. Republicans were so fractured or ineffective, that they couldn't even get anything to 60 votes.

McCain... And a few others... 60 votes are needed to truly control the Senate... Just having the majority doesn't mean you do what you want... Mellow

Couldn't they have used the nuclear option to bypass the Democrats?

Because there is no material difference between republican and democrat members of the parliament of whores, they all work for the people that $ponsor them.

... he didn't even demand his wall until a month before the Dems took control. He barely cared about it.

I'm sure someone could trace his demand for a wall back to a Fox news segment or something...

Nah man...
You're right he talked about it.

But then he ignores it for nearly 2 years. Doesn't demand anything from the Congress...

Suddenly it has to be done immediately or government can't be funded....

I'm sure there were other spending bills before the one in Dec 2018. Why didn't he demand it then?

Trump knew there wasn't enough support for the wall among GOP House and Senate...DOA issue then, when they had majorities, so why bring it up...

with Dems controlling the House, he can now blame the Dems...

So... Now after not thinking it's a big deal for 2 years... Suddenly thinking it's a big deal and shutting down the government for over a month... Then demanding and not receiving funding for it from Congress.... He's going to declare a state of emergency and try to fund it that way.

An emergency.... That wasn't that important for 2years.

Trumps problem was listening and believing his party leadership that they would get to it.......yeah let’s pretend that one party is as monolithic as the other. And let’s also pretend that HE is the biggest problem in DC. It’s pretty awesome that HE could get elected and do such an awesome job showing how F’d DC is.

I'd wager a bit of both.
