Wife and I got the flu and we are miserable. Mrs. chased off a 400 + lb. bear last evening when he grabbed the bird feeder. He left, but very slowly. I think I'll go back to bed. No bird feeder out today.

Beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Fell asleep before I could finish my cigar last night. It's been years since I relit a cigar, and it was garbage for 5 min and then went right back to where I was. Sitting on the deck, 50 and sunny, light breeze.

I think spring might be here. Hope it stays.

I've had the same Geico policy for 15 years. In that time I've had one deferred speeding ticket in 2012 (54 in 45) and one claim for the tire blowout that ripped the side of my truck bed open. Wife had one speeding warning in 2014 (88 in 70) and one ticket deferred in 2008.

We were paying $230/mo for my 07 pickup and her 09 subaru. Full coverage $500 deductible and all the extras like roadside assistance and stuff. Went $280/mo when I bought the new Civic.

Have the house insured with State Farm and the agent sent an email saying $450/yr off homeowner's if I move my vehicles over to them. Called and got same coverage for $115/mo. Deal, saves me almost $200/mo.

Called to cancel Geico and their retention department got me down to $85/mo without changing coverage. That's a heaping load of BS. Why TF was I paying $280/mo? I called last fall before trying to shop around and they said I had all the discounts applicable.

$115 vs $85 is $30/mo or $360/yr. But with the homeowners discount State Farm is $90 ahead. But not sure if saving $100 for the year is worth the switch now.

Waiting on homeowners quote from Geico and motorcycle and RV quote from State Farm before I decide. I have accident forgiveness on the Geico policy, just reinstated after my blowout claim. The claim was super easy to deal with and they didn't touch my (overpriced) rates. They covered the rental car and even 50% of the new tires. I was really happy with the way the claim went. But at the same time they never reduced my rates, only raised and they've gotten 15 or more years of overpriced rates and only one $4k claim from me.

Always felt a % of the premium should go into an account that's used to pay deductible, or if built up enough pays for repairs without hitting the ins and raising rates. If drained then standard rules apply. Less money for the company on the front end, but less cost to the company on the back, and customers that feel they're getting something for their monthly rates

Check back in Frankie...........Think

remiss in my duties, apologies to all.
got home at 11:00 PM yesterday, been catching up on my reading here off and on...

it was a nice week in Aruba. Shared a 2-bedroom/2 1/2 bath house across from the Marriotts and Ritz Carlton. 5 minute walk to da beach.

did some good eating, saved our favorite for the last night, Wacky Wahoo's, and it did not disappoint. The Lovely Caren desperately needed this break from real life and it seems to have been good for her.

Maybe I'm crazy (maybe?) but it's nice to be home too. Will be with granddaughter Evy tomorrow afternoon, and her mom tells us she is super excited. But I might be even more so!

Congrats on the win, Ram. This 500 is flying.

I'm waiting for the camper to self destruct, or get taken out by a tree. Either is plausible, and is probably the only way I'm buying a new one anytime soon. At least until student loans are done. Then I have an extra $680/mo to party with.

Geico has been running a thin line of profit over the years. Rate wise, they are in the cheaper half of the industry. State Farm is the industry gorilla. They are on the snugger end of paying claims. Processing can take a bit.

If you qualify for USAA, the are the gold standard. Amica is also reputable.

Your mileage may vary.

USAA is out.

I insured the house with State Farm after a lot of reading online reviews and talking to people back when we bought the house in 2010. I don't think I'll be changing that.

But for the cars, I went with Geico in 2004 because they had the only affordable rate for motorcycle on a 20 year old. But I've been paying that rate, with occasional increases, for the last 15 years. Only time I had to use it was 2017 when I had a tire blow out while towing the camper and it ripped the side of the bed off my truck. The claim and repair, rental, and everything involved in the process was super easy, took zero effort on my part. I was super happy with that. But I'm wondering if some of that wasn't because I wasn't tagged as a "discount" customer or something, especially since the retention department was able to shave $200/mo off my payment without changing coverage, and a new company was willing to provide same coverage for $115/mo.

I took my dog to the vet Friday, because I've noticed her limping sometimes.I haven't really noticed her in any pain, but sometimes she holds her left hind leg up and won't put weight on it.I've tried to check her out when it happens, but she doesn't have any reaction when I rub her leg and give it an inspection.
The vet spent about 30 seconds and said here's the problem, she has a luxating patella...her knee cap pops out of the slot it's supposed to ride in.The vet says it doesn't cause her any pain, it just feels funny to her, but it will probably cause arthritis down the road and that will cause her pain.
Long story short, they just did the surgery on another dog, and the price tag is 2 grand. ..if it ain't one thing it's another ...I guess we'll have to give it some thought, and try to do the right thing for her...I hate to think she's in any painNot talking

Nice to know... I have USAA and my premium for the wife's car and my truck (full coverage, 500 deductible) is $224 a month. I guess that's reasonable for a '18 truck and a '17 car, yeah?

would $1000 deductible make a significant difference?

I don't think it makes much of a difference. If it did, I would have switched it to $1000.

Going from $500 to $1,000 generally saves between $20 & $40 over six months. $1000 is the most common deductible in the country.

It's a good idea to check insurance costs every year this year I saved just under $ 600 by switching mine. I wasn't happy with the way the former insurance company handled a claim when someone backed into my car in a parking lot, so I would have switched even if it cost the same.

Good day of fishing yesterday, but I'm hurtin today... I thought my regiment of pull ups and chin ups I'd started would've helped, but absolutely not...

Line counter was reading 595' at times... One pound weight and up to a 10lb fish from that depth... Lather, rinse, repeat 15 times... that gets exhausting...

Ram, my dog is almost 2 years old....and I forgot to mention to Drafter, her name is Sarah
She's a sweetheart,...right now the vet has her taking a joint supplement, a strong blend of glucosamine and several other joint supplements, supposed to help slow the onset of arthritis...I'm still not sure what we're going to do long term...

So the wife mentioned Whole Foods has $2 beers on Tuesday. Never been there, not exactly my crowd, but found some stuff to eat and then sat down and drank a few beers. Had something from Stone, 3 from 3Floyds, and another from New Oberpfaltz. 5 good beers for $10 I ain't complaining.
