Now that we sold the Jersey house, we can finally get a new puppy. I want a Great Dane. The wife wants a labradoodle or a standard poodle. To me, a dog isn't a dog unless it's over 150 lbs. and you can wrestle with him. This is going to be fun. /s

I would go with the standard poodle.

Now you need to win the next 500 so we can name him/shim.

I agree with Jespear. Purchasing "new puppies" just encourages the creation of more of these animals, which we as a species are ultimately responsible for.

There are tons of adoptable dogs. Adopt a senior dog which has been abandoned, and is harder to find homes for.

There are a number of organizations dedicated to fostering senior dogs until they find homes. In my experience these dogs are well socialized, and most importantly already house trained.

Morons with something to prove (or little cawks) pay breeders for dogs. Adopt a friend. Don't BUY a status symbol

Good luck, brother. Adopt or purchase any breed you want. I wouldn't go as far as saying don't purchase from a breeder,
I'll leave that up to morons from the Ozarks.....

We just lost our little Doxie, Havana, prematurely due to a neurological infection. We wanted to adopt another from our
area with no success so we found a lady in Madison, TN. who's Doxie just had a litter. So.....$400.00 and 1,200 miles
later we are the proud parents of our little Doxie puppy Maddie.

On a side note, the drive thru Knoxville was cool as poop due to the Bassmasters having the classic there.

Donna keeps showing me photos of Goldendoodles. Cute, fuzzy teddy bears, but I'm more interesting in rescuing a Great Dane or another Rotti (if my home owner's insurance allows). After first sharing life with Gus (165 lb. Rotti) and then George (262 lb. English Mastiff), I don't think a 50 - 60 lb. dog is going to do it for me.

I think 8track has been heavily involved in greyhound rescue in the past. Might want to ask him about it.

You should have no problems finding a Rotti. Just look up the Rotti rescue in your area. I know our local shelters always
have both Rotti's and Great Danes.

My wife and I used to volunteer for the Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland. If the local Rotti rescue is anything like the
beagle rescue you can offer to foster and they will pay all vet costs till you decide you want to adopt.

Good luck!

So, if you don't mind me asking, when you first came here did they call you Anthony Grazzwipe?

Really, dude? I write that my wife and I just lose our beloved Doxie to a very rare condition. Then find another Doxie to help ease the obvious
pain and this is your response...?

Hmmmm, ? Not sure what to say bout that. Hopefully my "vibe" is not accurate???

I buy all my dogs, let’s be honest you have no idea how well a rescue has been cared for or what it’s been fed. Breeder dogs taste much better and have a better fat content for slow pit cooking.

No, I'm one of those bassards that buy them from breeders... This time a different breeder tho.. last time was a puppy-dog mill that not longer exists due to complaints.. after we got Goldilocks she spent almost two weeks at da vet but she gave us 15 years... this time I feel much better about who I'm buying from tho.. still 15 years is hard to beat for a Golden... I have a few friends that have gotten Great Dane rescues from the track. Them poor puppers come with some serious issues. That being said, after lots of time in working with them to get their social skills back on par they turned out to be some fantastic pupps. Just getting them back to where they feel it is ok to play was a huge task but in the end well worth it. Also in taking on such a task I feel that it builds a great bond with the poor Dane.

All of my animals are rescues. From the bearded dragon, all 3 dogs, and even the 3 chinchillas. Except for the budgies. The thing is all of them play and get along very well with each other because that is how I work with em. Ever seen a German Shepard walk around the house with a bearded dragon riding on his back with 3 chinchillas and a teacup yorkie following along under his feet. Then add a 3 legged mixed mutt carrying a stuffed toy behind em like they all going to the playground. Freaking hilarious. Moose will guard each and everyone of the other critters like they are pupps in his pack. Lenny the teacup, she goes into the cage with the budgies and the chinchillas and eats with them. For some strange reason that dog loves millet.

It is like they know the rest of the animals are part of the family.

Any how I wouldn't trade anything for my rescues. It is one thing to buy say from a breeder and the animal comes with the normal disposition but when you get a rescue that trust and such has to be earned. To me, that alone made me feel even greater as far as the bond I have with em and the bond they have with me,the rest of my family and the other rescues I have.

Just my 0.02.

So our most recent dog was a "fospice" dog. Rescued by a senior dog organization in SF but deemed too sick for adoption. She had been used as a breeder dog by some puppy farm and then discarded when she got sick (massive mammary tumors, one like a testicle hanging from her). The woman put at least 15k worth of 2 surgeries in and now she's got a very good chance of dying of old age.

The fact that these people would use her to earn money on puppies and then discard her when she became ill makes me less than impressed with the idea of buying a puppy ever.

We as humans have a responsibility for any animal species we have intentionally altered through breeding to no longer be functional on it's own. We have created this... So it reflects on us. Don't get me wrong... I'm not a dog person. I would personally be happy if we stopped having them as pets at all to the point that the species disappeared... As a whole we clearly aren't responsible enough to manage what we created without creating pain and suffering in the world. As with most things.

Sorry Tony, but I beg to differ . . .

He stated that he lost his dog in post #14.
JR made his comment in post #17.

Think I know I'm not as smart as Victor or Frankie T, (who's like a genius), but I'm pretty sure that 14 comes BEFORE 17.
Just sayin'.

I'm gonna be"too kind" and say maybe, you need to grow a set and don't give into peer pressure.....like MOST Libtards....And, if you think it's cool to make fun of somebody loosing a loved one , then I need to say no more....
