PC,IP, DNA

To many alphabets for my little broken brain, is it a recipe for soup?

Seriously though, The message was spot on I think. Thing is I do not think the message will take. To many I worry are so wrapped up in the keeping score, taking sides, etc that they will not come together. I do hope I am wrong.

Even back in the day I was told to never talk religion or politics unless you wanted a fight but now it has gotten so stupid crazy. People seem to have a very hard time with sitting and talking with someone of the opposite beliefs. It is like everyone has made it a mission to convert everyone else even if it means doing psychological or bodily harm.

And trying to have such an exchange of ideas online vs face to face makes it even more difficult. "Offended" tends to be ideas that are not like mine.

I know what you mean all to well. I have always been the type of person that enjoyed talking/debating with people that are of a different mindset as long as they could act like someone while doing it. Quite a few times I would learn new things or even just get a different viewpoint or outlook. I have never understood people getting so damn angry and offended because someone thinks differently. Besides, if the world all felt and thought the same, it would be a boring place. Working in the medical field the diversity was huge (not just race, religion etc) but cultures and politics as well and honestly I loved that. It done me so much good in my life.

I hear that, my Wife is a retired RN. I still get entertaining dinner discussions. Anxious

I worked in the nuclear power construction and government nuclear facility operations and management. There were a lot of foreign engineers in the field that gave me a sort of outsider inside view. Some the most freedom loving ardent conservative folks come from communist countries, their opinions are based on personal experience.

Yep, it was the same in my field. I always considered it a perk of my job to be able to meet and talk with people from places like that. To boot, made some pretty good friends at the time as well. I always looked forward to learning how different things actually was in comparison to what I "thought" was the real world. It did not take long to realise that things are not what we are told or taught or see on TV. Not to mention how willing all was to share education. That was when it really struck home that most folks tend to think the whole world is only comprised of what they can literally see or have been told. At the time that included myself. It was a huge eye opener for a boy born as a hillbilly redneck in South Carolina who was raised in the bible belt and was taught to be prejudice by my own parents and family. To be given that experience was life changing to say the least. The thing is the only way I feel one can gain such is to put aside the anger and stupidity long enough to sit and actually listen, talk, keeping an open mind, while allowing one another to think and feel differently.

The sad thing is, I feel people that have that ability are becoming less. To many now want to fight over a disagreement in thoughts and beliefs. To occupide with "sides" and "pointing fingers and passing blame" To willing to be carried up that argumentative ladder just because everyone else is willing to do the same.

I personally when confronted with such, as soon as I feel the discussion is becoming heated, the conversation is over on my end. Not because I feel strongly about my beliefs but because that person is not worth my time or anger to try and have the conversation. I refuse to be carried up the ladder and that was such a weight lifted.

Just my 0.02. As I say, It might not be right but, it's right for me.

Thank God there are people sending messages of hope from the sub-basement of their mother's home to save us.

no disrespect to Gene or to Ewok, who have authored many thoughtful posts and seem to be genuine men whom I would like to meet and herf with....

but I take with a boulder of salt the wisdom professed by those who elevate common sense street smarts while tearing down institutions of higher learning and the people who inhabit them as PC indoctrinators who are the cause of all that ails this country...that is the core of the anti-science movement...

beware the smiling man who says "you don't need no education cuz I can tell you all you need to know"

My dreams of doing it here were dashed when I met water just below the basement floor. Cut a 3 foot circle in the floor and started digging to put in a sewage pit, and ground water level was already there. Had to open it up quite a bit to counter the cave-ins.

If I build another house, I want to pick a lot on the top of a small hill, so I can do a walkout basement, and then a basement underneath the basement.

No disrespect taken brother. I understand where you are coming from all to well. What most don't get is the "Common sense Street smarts" is only what they can literally see. Life is not the same on every street. Those that are tearing down the institutions of higher learning and those that follow well, I tend to not even take it with a sliver of salt. Why? Because it's not worth my emotion in my opinion. For myself it is like trying to have a conversation with an argumentative piece of lint or having a debate with a flat earther. When it comes to the smiling man who says "you don't need no education cuz I can tell you all you need to know" I don't beware, I just be respectful and let the noise pass me by. About the only response he would get from me is "Good luck with that" Saves me a lot of of stomach acid build up lol. I would venture to say the only reason it ails this country is maybe because to many are giving those people the emotional response they are after or giving them acknowledgment which is something I will not give serious thought to doing. This is more for myself kind of thing. I mean could you imagine getting upset or angry with every ignorant person on the planet. I would imagine that would be a quick way to major organ shut down. I just laugh because I find those people mildly funny. Not because they are ignorant but because they seem to refuse to educate themselves and want to stay ignorant on whatever subject at hand. I am very ignorant on a great deal of things in this world but, If I am going to try and to talk about it with someone I will at least try to research and learn so I can come to the table with a decent debate or at least some damn good questions in hand and whoever answers the question should at least show something fact based, not just "because I Feel or I think"

Then of course there is the whole “truth is mutable” thing.

But I were to push the truth on you guys it would not be “seeing is believing”. It would be that believing is seeing.

I would definitely say Truth in a great deal of both cases is a matter of perception whether it be seeing is believing or believing is seeing. Either way when seeing is involved or any other of the other senses, how a person perceived that is different for everyone. It is just a matter of if we all come to the same conclusionional view on what we sensed. The thing is in all situations it boils down to what we can see and have seen within the environment that we was raised in. Other than factual things (ex. up is up and down is down,) what is perceived as truth in your environment might get you killed in Memphis. Ex Here when consoling someone it is ok to put a hand on a shoulder and say it will be ok. Do that across seas in some other countries and that will get you killed if it should be a female and she is not your wife or sister. I perceive that it is ok and truthful because that is how I was raised, what I have seen, what I have been taught. In some other countries that is not the truth because of their environment on what they have seen and been taught. When training some of the military boys at South Point they had no clue that it was not ok. It was then we had to make sure that they learned to get past their version of what is truth and is ok in order to be able to survive and not get shot even if it meant that the female was about to be hit by a bus No Touchy Touchy to push her out of the way even to save a life.

So I guess in a nutshell in that situation because of what they believe is what they see I guess I have backed up your statement?

I reckon.

But many would hold that truth is absolute. And while that may be true of vodka, it does not bear out in life.

I think most Russian bears have a hard enough time just getting toilet paper and cheese. Do they have government cheese?

I would only think in some situations that truth is absolute, mathematics etc. As far as the rest not so much. But, then again, I am not the smartest on this rock.

Mathematics, being a human logic construct is only so true. There are irrational numbers and other holes in the logic. But it is practically true - mostly.

Good enough for a bear to vodka - in da woods....
