Meh... I doubt he ends up charged with anything serious... And despite past tough talk, I'm guessing we hear trump say something like "he lived in an Ecuadorian embassy for 7 years, he's suffered enough"...

why is it the cons treat Assange as a harmless lib foil, while torching Chelsea/Brad Manning...

I'm not certain that's the case....however, if true, it would seem to be an easy question to answer....

My opinions on Assange are somewhat neutral....I think he's a useful tool and makes for amusing 'news'

Manning and Snowden compromised United States security by violating their oaths and duties to protect classified information to which they were entrusted. I'm not convinced either is more whistleblower than traitor.

IMHO, no matter how well intended Manning and Snowden committed treason. I think it will be very hard to prove Assange committed any crime. Also, an unacceptable precedent would be set in regards to freedom of the press.

Al, maybe because one wore a uniform and took an oath....

Now maybe you can explain the lefts lack of passion for whistleblowers when Barry burned so many?

Assange didn't take an oath and he isn't a US citizen.

For the same reason I believe traitors like Manning and others should be executed and foreign spies jailed and or exchanged for other spies. One is doing their job for their country the other is undermining the security of their country.

US govt has never made a case that any of the stuff Manning leaked was damaging...just embarrassing...she/he was never convicted of treason...

Manning wanted to shine some light on improper motives and conduct by US military in Afghanistan, without giving up any harmful info...

some US military men who revealed atrocities in Viet Nam helped bring that war to an end...heroes like Hugh Thompson, warrant officer/helicopter pilot who stopped the My Lai massacre...

this is not saying that Manning is a hero...far from it...

Simple. Manning betrayed his country. The other guy is a foreigner who just so happens to be a narcissist.

Wellll...fella's....

You can bet your bottom dollar that Assange had a "back-up stash of info" ( just like I do ) and it was the only thing keeping him alive...albeit his can fit on a thumb drive while mine takes the form of microfiche and paper...hey Gary, Fast Eddie, Pa Supreme Court Justices, Kent state Univ., and "the Appian Way Run to Savannah, Defenders"...don't you just love all those missing documents? Ripped off page corners?
Indented initials and the "other things" I did to your secret documents?
The young millennial Truman ghost associates put most of that stuff on multiple thumb drives too...just like julians peoples... But some are still in ceilings and janitors closets...
Just go ask "ms. cold as ice haspel" and the Hong Kong bureau FBI BOYZZZZZ.

POOR JULIAN...NO MORE UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL VISITS FROM BAY WATCH PAMELA ANDERSON ...
NO MO'...awww shucks!! Why did you piss off the Ecuadorian president so much? You dumb f.u.k.k.k.

seems Assange will be charged with crimes relating to his hacking into Pentagon computer networks in 2010, helping Manning to obtain data he, Assange, wanted to publish...

Assange has been running from US justice since then...US DOJ and US Intel community, including Trump's appointees, believe that he is a "non-state hostile intelligence adversary with links to Russian intelligence agencies"...

so Assange is not vilified by the right, which usually stands for law and order and denounces anyone who publishes info that harms US interests...

is it because he helped Trump beat Hillary that cons have a skewed vision of him..."I love WikiLeaks"

looks like there are not charges that would relate to freedom of the press.

which is a good thing...we don't want to horse collar legitimate journalists from accurately reporting what our government is saying and doing...but we should be mindful of real national security issues being exposed to the detriment of us all...and that journalists who break the law to uncover information for publication should be willing to take the consequences for that criminal behavior...

it's the partisanship thing, that tw keeps pointing out, that makes one side revere this guy, ignoring the danger posed because it was a benefit to the side considered "the good guys".

and yes, it does work both ways...exactly why I sometimes say I don't want everything I want. There would be no good in having a benevolent dictator.

but didn't you feel really really good about yourself at the time?

and I'll betcha the poor person who was the recipient of your generosity believes you are the best of the best...

like Jesus and the fish...teach a man to fish and he'll be able to feed himself for life...

give a man a watch when he asks you for the time, and he'll always know the time...

He didn’t help him hack anything.....

Transsexual Manning asked for help breaking a code and Assange said they’d help but never did.

Love seeing the “patriots” line up to lynch the whistleblower

condensed version from today's Boston Globe Editorial section:

charges are "conspiracy to commit computer intrusion". Period.
he's charged only with a hacking crime, not free press publishing crime(s).

Single charge, dates to 2010, relates to conspiring with Manning to hack into a U.S. Government computer and steal secret documents.

Facing up to 5 years in prison if convicted. No current plans to seek espionage charges barring new evidence, which seems proper.

So, why is he one of the good guys?

I'm often on the side of whistleblowers, I don't see him in that role. I'm leaning toward an opportunist who broke into US government security for profit, not to save the world.

I'm not even convinced wikileaks is part of the press...maybe, maybe not. Not gonna matter in this case anyway. Never look at it so not qualified to render an opinion.

Assange is not your average whistleblower/journalist...he's been linked to Russian govt. sponsored hackers...by Trump's intel people...and was looking for more confidential US intel to divulge...

would that be your position if Wikileaks/Assange had helped Hillary instead of Trump?

what happened to the cons who seemed steadfast in their core values of America first patriotism, flag wavers and embracers, who stand tall for the anthem, and cut kneelers off at the knees ...

cons who accused libs of shape shifting, lacking core values, morality for the moment, expedient flip flopping...and those were the polite invectives...

those cons were totally prepared to rip anyone who dared to reveal America's classified intel...like Manning ....

but he/she wouldn't have had a voice without Assange/wikileaks, so Assange's' role was as a co-conspirator in hacking clandestine US computers and divulging classified info...until 2016...

oh wait...the GOAT POTUS hosted some of the top Russian leaders in the Oval Office, let them bring their own media and translators, shut out US media including TrumpNews, and gave away info about a top-secret US intel operation in the M.E. ...and bragged about it....

never mind...
