Some serious plummeting here from that easy to win trade war.

Almost back down to 25000.

Literally lost 1000 pts in like 4 days. And no one's mentioned a thing here

Eyeballing the trajectory at that time, I would say on track to be higher than it is.

But no matter how much you wanted it, obama wasn't going to be president in 2019. Ya know he didn't even run?

Yup he came in while it was low and tanking. Then it stabilized and began to grow and continue to grow which it is still doing (short of predictable dips... and maybe some flawed thinking/actions).

All that aside I think the point is (at least for me) I don't put all or most credit or blame for market performance on the president unless I see direct actions causing something. It seems some do.... and others put all the credit and none of the blame or vice versa depending on who is in. Those are the neutral logical thinkers.

I also remember the morons in here claiming Obama was going to stay in office after his second term.... the hand wringing was awesome. It was a fact not an opinion.... just like he wasn't born here etc.

Now the other morons are doing the same about Trump.

Don't impeach the slug, vote him out. And if he should win we get what we deserve. Wait another 4 then vote in a Kardashian.

I think we've seen a lot more volatility in the market the past 2 years (maybe I'm wrong, perhaps actually doing a statistical analysis of the variation would prove otherwise... but I don't have the time for the math). This volatility irritates me, because I have a nagging inclination that it's partially intentional.

People can make money off volatility. Lots of money very quickly. And if someone just happened to know what dumb things the president was going to say right before he tweeted them.... they could get in front of a lot of the volatility (not all of it, but there is definitely some tied to his statements).

Maybe I'm wrong (I hope I am)... but it nags at me.

Twice in the last couple years my gut told me to move all my 401K stuff out of the markets thinking the markets would dip, then throw it all back in when it does. Both times I didn't do it and was right. Next time I will be wrong LOL. *sigh*

It took all last year to make up my losses from the year before, but yes I am ahead of the day bammy left.

Not sure he said "hangs with"....
His actual statement was "up close and personal".... you know... getting his face right in there.

He usually refuses to acknowledge their existence afterwards.

This might work if the president also had the power to tweet smart things that could improve the market... His Twitter valve is one-way...

Not smart things... but he has tweeted dumb, incorrect things which have altered share prices.

He made some inaccurate statements or tweets about an electric truck company the other day and their stock went up 200%.

If someone had known that a little before....

wasn't Trump's Proud Shutdown largely blamed for the "correction" in December 2018 and January 2019?

His corporate tax cuts caused a long spike in the markets...

and his talk/imposition of tariffs on China have caused a couple of dives...the first one stopping an upward trend after his tax cuts...and his recent b1tch about trade negotiations with China...

he seems to like to toy around with those kinds of decisions....be interesting to see if any of his kids have timed any buys and sales just before his proclamations....I'm sure he's too smart to do any trading himself...

If it hits 25000 from the other direction, shouldn't whoever selected that date win as well?

If you can find the guy who won you can ask for the prize back. Think he only posted once but he prolly smoked them all by now.

Wow... I didn't notice that... He literally only posted 2 times, to post his contest entry, and hasn't been back on the site in 3 months.

Guess he didn't like us

.... and now we've had a bit of a recovery. A literal 450 pt move today. Because of tweets saying trade talks are continuing.

There is a LOT of tracking between twitler's twitter feed and our DJI.

I would not be terribly surprised if someone were making bank off of knowing what he will tweet before he does.

Hell.... someone with a global social network and a massive programmer department and just happens to control the medium through which these messages are sent could theoretically tie a 20 second delay to his sent tweets, and then provide the information to traders real-time.
