In each of my last two CI orders, they have thrown in a free cigar without me having to even show my metallic membership credentials! I have gotten one each of a:

- Macanudo Inspirado White

- V Vegas Series A

Well, this past weekend at the lake was the perfect time to break them both out.

At the place we stay we always have breakfast in the morning outside on the balcony. Thought it was a good time to try the Inspirado. This is a cigar CI and the related companies have been pushing a lot recently and there have been a bunch of them here on Cbid, with a 10 pack on FF right now going for a low of $21.60 or so and also some cheap deals on the websites, sometimes in combo with other Inspirado colors I have not had.

Have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. There was some spice, some salt, white pepper, toasty tobacco. There was actually evolving flavors and nice smoke. Was really good with the morning coffee. Don't get me wrong, it is still a Connie and still a mild smoke, but SOOOO much better than that tired old Macanudo Cafe thing -- hard to believe they came from the same company.

This might be my new morning smoke, especially at the cheapo prices I have seen them going for.

After lunch its on to the boat and you need a cigar you don't mind getting wet, dropped or trashed. Seemed that the V Vegas would be a good choice. Have not smoked a Vegas in years. Before my wife knew better, she had gotten me some V Vegas Golds along with a Travel Humidor from CI (the travel humi was good anyway....) as a present. The Golds I wound up using as a prop-cigars I could just chomp on - without lighting - on stage in community theater productions.

Have to say the Series A looked nice. Cedar sleeve, dark wrapper, not super firm but not squishy either.

Then I lit it.

The blurb on the Mothership says the Series A has "coffee-like notes" and that would be correct. Old Coffee. Bad Coffee. Burnt Coffee that has been left simmering too long. Smelled Like when the coffee pot has been on the too-hot warmer all day at work and it has evaporated all the liquid so the dry dregs are actually smoking and stinking up the office.

That kind of "coffee-like note."

Could not even wait for a wave to crash over the bow to snuff it out. Tossed it not even halfway through, much to the relief of the passengers.

So 1 for 2 on the freebies. Can't really complain, about that!
