Too hot or too cold? Cigar storage question

My wife will only allow me to keep my big ugly coolador in our second floor closet or in our basement. Temperature in our basement is pretty constant around 63F and our second floor closet varies from 65F to 80F. I know the preferred storage temp is 70, but should I go with the cold basement or the hot second floor?

Or, put yer big boy pants on and tell her the cooler full of your cigars will go wherever you dang well want to put it.
Then tell her to make you a sammich...

This is tough. If you let them towards 80, you may as well say goodbye. 63 is too low. What is the humidity inside of the coolador?

My coolers and humis deal with 80+ almost every day but never had a problem. Keep my RH at 65. Tight seals are the key.

I disagree about 63F. it's fine as long as the humidity remains stable. Many large collectors store their cigars in lower temp controlled storage. YMMV.

^^^ I agree, 67F should be fine. That's the approximate temp mine are at with a RH at 68.

Nothing wrong with 63F. May not age as much as 65-70 degrees but won't hurt anything. I keep some of my stash in the large Vinotemp with wine stored at 55.

Got you on a short leash, does she? d'oh!

Cold is FINE.

Hot can hatch beetle larvae.

Also sorry about your balls, but your wife something nice and shiny and beg for them back.

Who told you that? Mine stay in the basement year round and smoke like heaven. You never bought cigars from people claiming storage in a 65/65 aristocrat before? You've never lived!

+1 I have 4 coolerdors in the basement with temp and humidity in the sixties - no problems after many years!

I also have two Aristocrat humidors upstairs where temp is usually around 70 and humidity inside @ 65. Again no problems!

.
High temps are fine if you have no beetles or viable eggs in your cigars.

Only way to find out is to raise the temps and watch, though!

I stumbled into a shpo in a small nearby city and was horrified that the whole place was infested with beetles. Temp was in the high 70's. I point it out in some of the gars I picked out and they say "go ahead and pick some others" and I say NO WAY. Lucky I escaped without hitch hikers.

#24 M Jones.....Found several old pre embargo boxes of cubans in old barns or garages. Humidity OK but beetles turned them to dust. A few still intact, riddled with holes.
