Afternoon ladies and gents. I am new to using a cooler for storage, and I have 70 qt exteme, about 60% full. All cigars are in wooden boxes, I have two hydrometers in it one on top one on bottom, I have 3 320g bovedas in it.right when I open it they both read right around 59%, and after being open for less than two minutes they are both reading 63-65%. What am I doing wrong? Or how can I fix this? Thanks

What's the humidity where you live? If it's more humid in your house than in the coolidor, then that may be right?

I've done tuppadors before and had no issues, it was obviously smaller but I figure it's mainly the same concept. I do have seasoned cedar and boxes in there that I'm using for s small packs I bought. I just don't want to miss anything. And if the answer is I need to put more cigars in there, I'm ok with that, just have to convince my wife....

I'd try leaving it closed up for a few days before opening it again, and let the cigars acclimate to the Bovedas...those cigars could be drawing up the humidity as fast as the Bovedas are putting it into the air....you may even want to put a small dish of distilled water in there until things normalize....
Does the cooler have a good seal? Do the dollar bill test...put a dollar on the lip of the cooler and close it, then try to pull the dollar out...if you have a good seal, you should get a little drag on the dollar bill...open cooler and try again in several places....you may need to put a gasket on the lip of the cooler to give you a better seal...Think

I will check again in a few days, thanks. And oh yes, great seal on it. I did the dollar bill check the day I got it lol. If it doesn't clear up in a few days I may add more bovedas and cigars. Thanks for your help. Herfing Herfing

As far as the wife, set up a UPS account and divert all your shipments to the local office to sneak in to your stash at your discretion...... Not that I advocate subterfuge in a marriage of course

Ups thing seems like too much work lol, she really don't care. The more cigars I buy just means she gets more wine... Hahaha

Don't worry so much. The air might have changed humidity, but the cigars most certainly did not. Even less so for those in boxes and cello.

I think you mean "hygrometer". A hydrometer is a whole different instrument.

I used an alternate solution - not ever getting married in the first place. Herfing

Well yeah, it's not like you'd want someone poking around and finding your half finished woman suit. It's just good sense...
