I knew we had some mental giants in here. I just knew somewhere, under all the detritus, I would find greatness. A diamond in the rough, so to speak.

Frank....

But... being a quiet, unassuming soul, he chose to hide his academic pursuits. In fact... he hid it so well that he adopted an entire new identity...

but I saw through it. "Francesca Tripodi".... hah... (hmmm... maybe he isn't such a genius at creating new identities as I thought.... ah well, what would I know.. I thought I'd get away with victor809)

While looking up other information I ran across Frank's academic achievement... clearly he tried to hide it from us...

I am embarrassed to have been identified.
I took many precautions and set up several false trails, prominent among them was using a feminine first name as my academic persona's pseudonym.

A Tip o' the Tripod to ya for doing the research.

pretty cool to be linked to anything academic. I really hated school.

Honestly... what fascinates me the most about this is the fact that there's a surname "tripodi"...

I had to look it up, because it made no sense that someone would essentially take the last name "tripod". Did the ancestors have an unfortunate series of birth defects leading to extra limbs... were they all so well endowed their 12th century discount cigar internet forum buddies joked about their pen1s length?

No.... nothing that exciting.

Tripodi Name Meaning
Italian (Calabrian and Sicilian): from Calabrian tripodi, tripodu, Sicilian tripoddu, from medieval Greek tripodion ‘tripod’, ‘trivet’, possibly a metonymic occupational name for a cook or a metonymic occupational name for a maker of trivets.

This of course led me to having to look up "trivet" (it's that tripod thing that holds a cooking pot over flames)...
And it led me to having to look up "metonymic" (using the term for an object closely associated with an action/occupation/etc to refer to the entirety of the action)... it would be like calling a cook "skillet" or the maker of cookware "skillet"

My entire comment was deleted. In some inexplicable turn of fate, I was able to undelete it and remove the offending word.

Ya mean "qweer - something that is odd, different, strange or non-mainstream"

What's so offensive about that?

Maybe outrage is what it takes to get him goin'.
He could go into a tirade and scream obscenities to heighten the experience.

Everyone has their kinks...
