In all seriousness, why would anyone pay full price for a cigar. And by that I mean, why would I pay $7/stick for Romeo y Julietas when I can get them for less than $3.50 each here? Is it that most folks just don't have time to watch the auctions so they just buy whatever, whenever at a local shop or other online vendor?
I've always been the support local when you can kind of guy and I really enjoy hanging out at the local B&M and lighting one up, but I'm starting to spend way more time on CB and getting things for way cheaper than anywhere else. While this may not be new to anyone else, being new myself it's hard to wrap my head around.
With that said, I then start to wonder about the cigars themselves. Are they even really worth the cheap ass price I'm getting on CB. Is CB's stock old stock, or unsold inventory? Factory rejects? Or are the cigars I get here the same as I would get anywhere else?
Then I say to myself..."Self, who cares, light that **** and move on"

A lot of old guys still aren't online. I know dudes in their 50s and 60s who have never been on the internet. Plus, B&Ms with smoking lounges are gonna get people who can't/don't want to smoke in their houses or garages. And it's common courtesy to buy a few sticks at a B&M that lets you smoke there.

My old B&M is in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I've been living in CA since 2013, but every year when I go to MI on vacation, I always hit the old B&M. C-Bid has a wide variety, but remember that the site is a subsidiary of CI. They don't have EVERYTHING. And not 100% of what CI does have is auctioned on here. So if I wanna try something, and there are no singles or fivers available on C-Bid (or any of the other auction sites), I gotta go to a B&M.

My old S&M place would never allow us to smoke. That's pretty cool they have a smoking lounge. whip

I've paid more than full price for many cigars here in SoCal...the tobacco tax and regular sales tax adds another layer of cost to the MSRP that most B&M's here charge for their stock...I'm paying for the chance to try a cigar that I can't find as a single elsewhere, or that I need to fill space and can't wait the week of so transit time from an on-line dealer...

It's always good to meet up with a CBid BOTL at a smoking lounge for a herf, and the price for the privilege is to pay full freight plus for 2 or more smokes...

Same problem here in Illinois. Went to order some of the Tatuaje ME's from a place last week when they went live. $500 in cigars, $250 addtional Illiniois tobacco tax was being applied! Not talking

Nope. Canceled that order. CelticBomber, who had given me the heads up, was in "you canceled them!" mode. I wasn't paying that. Got some on order today from a different shop online, no extra tax. Drool

Shame on you It is getting ridiculous.

yup, never buy boxes or bulk at SoCal B & M's, just a few singles here and there...I don't mind paying a few dollars premium for some single cigars, but not $100 or more for boxes, unless they are HTF/not available anywhere else and it is a cigar I really like/want...

All depends on your knowledge and motivation.

I didn't discover cbid until I'd been smoking cigars for 3+ years. That's knowledge.

Some folks only smoke one of two cigars a week. There's not much motivation there to save a couple bucks per cigar. You don't need a humidor if you're a very one-hour smoker. It's easier to just stop at the B&M and get what you need.

This said, there are still folks who buy boxes at B&Ms. Could be ignorence or could be that money's no object...again, knowledge of motivation.

Discovery of cost was rough. Google delivered me to cheaper options and eventually found the auction sites that way. That was the exact moment I understood Mrs. Beach's Kohls logic. Look at the money I'm saving! Buy! Buy! Buy!

In retrospect I feel pretty guilty about the hard time I gave to the Jamaican shopkeep trying to haggle over that first cigar, a (allegedly) CC Montecristo. $12 just sounded ludicrous to a longterm cigarette smoker at the time.

Random side note: Does there seem to be rash of random noob threads that post and then disappear? Kinda like a forum ninja

The “Buy! Buy! Buy!” philosophy is the very fabric of Pudding Mittens’ “Buy now, save later” corollary. Of course Mrs. Beach and PM are correct. Herfing

The “Here today, gone tomorrow” nOObs syndrome is nothing new and after awhile you’ll get used to it. The worst is when they “score big” on a PIB or vet trade and then disappear.

That's messed up. I tend to go exactly the other way. I've got hooked up big time since I got here. Some amazing smokes from several of the vets, and pointed to some great cigars coming available and or cut in on some amazing box buys. Smokes I would never had known existed. I feel obligated to pay that forward if I can.

Thus, I'm working on my stash, and once I understand the mechanics of all that I'm in. This place is amazing. I keep saying that, but it's true. I'm smoking on a quality level way over anything I've ever had before. Really good cigars, but unfortunately that means I'm rapidly losing my taste for infused and sweet caps. Think

One thing I've always thought about cigars, and why I've never bought less than two of a kind is they are about friends. Cigars are meant to be shared with buddies, and enjoyed with same. Preferably over a beverage of choice.

Cigar tax is so high here (50%) that a single might be 2/3 the cost of an internet 5er so I look for online deals first. Worst case scenario, I get to try a couple but iffin’ I don’t like them, can rest them further or gift them to others. Smoker events are the exception as prices are usually much better (...typically no more than MSRP...) and sometimes there are event-only smokes / deals so you gotta gettum while you’re there.

My local B & M carries some boutique brands that I want to try 1 or 2 before I splurge on a box. I use them for samples or if I have a special occasion and want to indulge in an expensive single

My local B&M has a BYOB policy, 3 televisions, a great chessboard, a beautiful card table that seats 8, a pool table, and a bunch of great people to talk with and enjoy some cigar time with. The prices, while a bit higher than cbid, are not outrageous. I can get a DE UC Shade for $8 or so, and then spend the next few hours shooting pool and watching a Patriot's game with like minded people while drinking the beer I brought with me that is kept cold in their Fridge, using their electricity. Oh yeah, if you just want some quiet time, you can pull a book or magazine from the well stocked library, and sit in an overstuffed leather recliner, and read all day if you choose.

That's why I spend a little more for the cigars at my local, and then I get to enjoy myself there all day for the price of a cigar. Small price to pay, and worth every penny to me....Applause

I appreciate brick and mortar. Most are small business owners and good guys. Wish I had one close to me. I'd gladly spend ten bucks on a decent stick and hang out.

I live in the Caribbean and cigars here are pretty pricey, for instance a Hoyo de Monterrey costs about a hundred dollars. Without this site I couldn't afford to smoke. Thanks to this site, however, I can afford a 2 maybe 3 cigar a week habit. Thank god for the US for both mass producing great mid tier, affordable cigars and the wonderful communities like this one, of which I can be a part and where I too can share my experiences with them as a member, even though miles and oceans may separate us.

You guys and your reviews of good sticks help me really understand and appreciate cigars. As you might imagine, on an island of approx. 2 million people fellow smokers, especially female smokers like myself, aren't plentiful, but that scarcely matters for you folks help me keep my passion alive, strong and enduring.

Thank you everyone and please appreciate what you have here, since in my opinion the camaraderie, the very ethos you all share is to me so priceless it cannot be measured in gold or other treasure.

Shhh Shhh ! I work with the ATF, with an emphasis on the ''T''. I confiscate a lot of illicit tobacco products from folks and test it on myself, so the other agents don't have to go through the arduous process of having to smoke it themselves. I sacrifice a lot for the sake of justice and keeping the world safe. Send me any suspicious samples you have I'll test them personally, no need to thank me Wink .

That sounds good. We've got others with an emphasis on the A and the F, so you may fit in well here.
You are now relieved of your direct superior, and need to funnel all reports and confiscated items(what's left from sampling for safety) through us. Of course, this is all to be kept confidential. Welcome aboard agent.

These prices seem great to me. As a 25 year truck stop cigar smoker it's like I found the gold at end of the rainbow! I didn't know I could get a relatively good stick for $2 a pop.
