Insurance adjuster came out. Right on time too. I was surprised by that. He said 0930, was here at 0925.

Anyhow. Looked at the ceilings in living room and kitchen, looked at the attic, looked at the roof.

They'll cover $1495 for drywall, plaster, insulation, and paint. "Roof looks fine" despite obvious (and covered) roof leak damage. Theyre willing to cover the damages from a leaking roof. But... The roof is fine.

I would've preferred "roofs old and worn, not covered" than "roofs fine"... it's obviously not fine if you're gonna cut a check for water damage from a leaky roof.

Whatever. Check for $495 and anticipate raised rates paying it back 100x over for making the call. At least I'll get documentation that the roof was submitted to insurance so I can put in for a hardship withdrawal against retirement account. They want repair quote from contractor and proof the repair was submitted to insurance with insufficient coverage to make a withdrawal. Hopefully they don't take the "roofs fine" to heart and refuse the withdrawal.

Edit: they want proof insurance says there's damage but insufficient coverage to repair... I might be fvucked on that plan... signed on for the 3 days off I had next week to work. Puts me at 15 12hr nights in a row but looks like that's gonna be my life for a while.

Just another page. Went pretty much as I expected.

Doubt it. At least not without legal council, which is not something I can afford. Nor is there any obvious damage to the roof from hail or tree.

I did not expect them to cover the roof. But I was expecting "roofs too old to pay out based on our prorated cost tables" or "prorated vlue of the roof is $2k" or something along those lines.

Dan,

I would appeal that adjusters opinion with THREE DIFFERENT ROOFERS ESTIMATES AND OPINIONS...
have each roofer sumbit photos of damaged roof , actual close-ups underneath and on top ...
You need to go up in the attic next time it rains and take video of the leaks...

With a small amount of effort and time..and inconvenience of three guys trouncing through your hit for two weeks...
You can get $5k easily...to fix every thing correctly!!
5k in fixing is worth the premium increase...not $457 measely bucks...what a travesty and ripoff...that adjuster is trying to get a promotion off your back...

FIGHT THE MAN WITH REAL EVIDENCE AND WIN...
THEN RECOMMEND TO THE COMPANY TO F.I.R.E.
THAT ADJUSTER...

MAKE IT PERSONAL...
NEVER GIVE UP.

Most policies have either "sudden" or "violent" terms to help determine if a roof repair or replacement is eligible for coverage. Slow and gradual onset (wear & tear) isn't cover-able.

Roof replacements are also reimbursed based on the roof age with many companies. 30 year shingle last 20 years- yes, a racket. If the roof cost 10k, 10 years ago, you'd be lucky to get a check for 5k.

a new roof if yours gets severely damaged by a covered peril listed in your policy. If you’re under this impression, you may not bother filing a claim for minor roof repairs because you’re responsible for a deductible. You might be surprised to learn that under certain circumstances, you can be entitled to a new roof even if the extent of the damage is just one broken tile or torn shingle.
Here, we’ll explain how you could qualify for a new roof, based on Florida state law and 2017 building code.

State Law for Homeowner’s Insurance Claims
When one or just a few tiles or shingles are damaged on your roof, and you file an insurance claim, state law mandates that your insurer must replace the material in adjoining areas if it’s not possible to repair the damage so it matches the undamaged portion in quality, size or color. Florida roofing tends to fade over time due to constant exposure to the elements and UV radiation, and roofing material manufacturers discontinue profiles and colors on a regular basis. Unless your roof is virtually new when the damage occurs, it may be impossible to simply replace a single tile or shingle without the repaired area standing out glaringly against the remainder of the roof.

Florida’s Building Code on Roof Repairs
According to the section of Florida’s building code on roof assemblies and rooftop structures, if 25 percent of a roof needs to be repaired in a twelve-month period, the entire roof must be replaced to ensure that it conforms to the current code requirements.

How the Laws and Codes Add Up to a New Roof
If you file a roof damage claim and it turns out that it’s impossible to replace a damaged tile or shingle so it matches the remainder of your roof, your insurer will have to replace the entire section, from the roof ridge down to the edge. If that section equals more than a quarter of your total roof area, then your entire roof must be replaced so it’s brought up to code.

Weakest starting line up for an opening day for Arsenal in my memory. Two 19 year olds among them.

Was chatting with my buddy this morning about my loadout for Atlanta next week. I have an 18ft open deck trailer, he's got a 20ft enclosed and a 32ft open deck.

Lots of things need to be trucked from Chicago to ATL. Last year I towed the 20ft enclosed, overweight, on crap tires, and had 3 blowouts, and got 7mpg. 10 on the drive home with new tires.

He asked if I was up for driving a 26ft rental truck instead of towing. F yeah! No worries about my tranny failing in the mountains n stuff. Been 15 years since I've drove a truck, used to do deliveries from a farm I worked at. I hope this is my assignment. Only major downside is the stereos suck in those trucks and I'm used to my high end audio in my truck. That, and the no smoking rules in rentals.

I'm feeling it, myself... and you're at least exercising. I haven't done that in awhile.

4 call outs today. My team has about 65% good, responsible people. The other 35% can kiss my ass.

Walked/jogged 54 miles last week. Good start this week 11 miles. I think 60-70 miles a week will be my max due to time limitations. At 220 lb now, when I reach 200 lb I will try running, but I am unsure how my bad knee will respond. So far in 3 months I have lost 45 lb. Most days I burn about 4.3 Kcal and eat 1.5 Kcal. So I am burning about 2.8Kcal a day. The only issue is I often go to bed hungry, but it is a small price to pay to regain my health. Doing the Atkins diet and plan to stay in phase 1 till 180 lb. My final goal weight is 165 lb. Some very positive so far. Have reduced on doctors orders my diabetes medication by 1/2. There is a good chance at my goal weight I will no longer be a type 2 diabetic and can discontinue that medication entirely. My blood glucose numbers run mid 80's regularly now. My blood pressure is great 90/65 with medication. Right where someone who has had open heart surgery should be. With further weight loss I may be able to reduce that medication or eliminate it, time will tell. It will be interesting to see where my A1C and cholesterol levels are 3 months from now. Interestingly foot neuropathy is going away. Much more feeling that 3 months ago.

Damn Spey - at 6’5”, that sounds a bit extreme.
Fully support your healthy pursuits. You are kicking the schitt out of it.

Mountain biking may be a better option, especially with a bad knee.
The impact of running can be damaging. If you’re intent on running, keep to the trails.
Concrete and asphalt will stress and potentially damage your joints

Wow, when I got down to 159 (many moons ago) I looked like a scarecrow - I would say anything under 180 is too extreme a goal.
