Smoked one a couple of years ago and even at $ 7.25 per I wouldn't buy another.

A couple years back I was in Astoria (rv travels) and stopped by this dumpy little liquor store in the touristy port district because they also sold tobacco, cigars, etc.
They actually had two wall cabinets, and I spotted some WOAMs and some VSGs which had yellow cello..........there were about 8 of the VSGs left in the box, on the bottom of one of the cabinets.
Bought a couple of each......can’t remember what I paid.........around $12/ea or so.
SMoked the WOAMs first, and they were good, and a day or two later the VSGs............which were simply spectacular.
By then I was 300 miles south.............and still kick myself for not grabbing all the VSGs...........they were either Lonsdales or a Churchills, can’t quite remember.

VSG? If you're referring to the Ashton VSG, it and their ESG are both "meh" to me. Boring, little flavor, heinously overpriced. Ditto all other Fuente-made stuff I've had.

I've had so many other cigars for a small fraction of the VSG/ESG/Fuente price that blew them out of the water that it's hard to keep count.

It's amazing how much palates differ, it really is. Tons of guys worship Ashton/Fuente, and I'm not saying they're wrong. To them and all the guys like them, they're right. There must be quite a wide range of variation in sensory genetics and hardware.

I smell a research study, but nobody would fund it, I'm sure, because tobacco is EEEEEVIIIIILLLLL!! Herfing

both the VSG and ESG have been inconsistent, in my limited experience, over the years....I've had a few of each in various sizes that were excellent....and some in various sizes that were let-downs...with minimum pricing, it's difficult to pay the asking price knowing there's a chance of getting let-down...

I've bought a box of the VSG Mystique...in that box many were great, a few were let-downs...

WB - Saw a couple of deals out there since you posted, but both of those "deals" were priced higher than yours.

I suppose everyones palate is different.I've been smoking VSG's for over 10 years and never had a bad one.....NEVER regardless of vitola. Now that being said if you don't like them by all means don't buy them...…..less demand keeps prices down.

If I were stranded on a desert isle and told I could only smoke one brand and one vitola til my dying day...………..Ashton VSG no doubt,my only dilemma, one that I have been fighting over 10 years......the Illusion or the CG,love both.

My current order was the Illusions,$208 shipping included and no tax. Can't wait for their next holiday sale to add another box of CG's

Same experience different locale...…...Can't remember where I was in Arizona but I stopped in this roadside smoke shop just off the freeway.I spied a dozen or so VSG's,toro size, way in the back of the cabinet. They pulled them out for me,they're covered in plume.I picked up 4 @ $8 and some change.Smoked one the next day on the way home...….I pulled over multiple times to kick my own azz for not grabbing all of them.I've never made that mistake again, but I've not fallen into one that sweet since either.

Ashton VSG is in my Top 10 of cigars. I like the Wizard or Enchantment in size. Got a great deal on the Enchantments about 11 years ago here on CigarBid., paid $172 for a box.

One of my favorite smokes in what is still probably my favorite vitola (the Eclipse tubo ain't too bad, either). My box of Illusions is old enough that I don't recall what I paid for them, but that sounds like a good price. Have to find them one day. Damned CAD.

They're both cigars I would visit far more often if not for the price tag...

That's why I try to buy a box from this place at every holiday sale.I get them for less than a comparable box of Cubans and IMHO it is better than all the Cubans I have smoked less one...……..and 2004 Cohiba Sublime LE's are unicorn's of the highest order. But if anybody out there has one I'll trade you VSG's 2-1

As for the ESG's...…..great stick but never on sale and not worth twice the price.

My local has a box of each that are probably 10 years old... $25 and $30 respectively I think... And he doesn't Jack the prices up on stuff he's aged, they're just that much...

You might want to pack some sammiches. I have a bunch of stuff to organize, so tub diving for a specific stick isn't high on my list right now. Just trying to pinpoint one more damned allergy. Ahab had one white whale. I have a pod of them.
