Yawn...

Almost over.

Just waiting on my flu shot and then I go home. Been up for 27 hours and at work for 15 of them.

Somehow gotta just take a small nap instead of sleeping all day so I can sleep at night to work my mandatory annual day shift tomorrow and likely will be working nights as well afterwards...

You know, Dan.....I didn't start following your 'saga' until a few months ago. Your life stories certainly evoke interesting feelings and even judgements. Never thought it my place to remark about any of it, but I do sort of admire that 8track and others have.

But, this comment here says more about you than any of the other stuff.

I'm impressed (once again) with your attitude (and sense of personal responsibility for your life.)

So the dog is still kicking.

The MIL showed up, it was barely able to stand... was sleeping all day... it's body temperature was very low... and most importantly it wouldn't touch any of it's food.

She decided it needed some congee...

And it ate it.

In fact, it has been eating congee 3 times a day for weeks now. It's put weight back on, some of the values they measure for kidney disease are still high, but lower than they were a month ago....

More importantly, the vet is now thinking it could keep going another 6-12 mo.

Good thing i didn't go home and kill it back when rman told me to.

^ I mean that's what it is... she puts a little chicken in it (because it needs to be low protein for the kidney disease) as well as sweet potato and carrots and peas.... but it's basically watery rice porridge... and it's the only thing he has wanted to eat.

When he was really sick he would eat something new, but within 24 hours wouldn't eat it any more. The vets thought he was nauseous. Apparently the congee doesn't make him nauseous, so he was willing to keep eating it. Plus it's got a lot of water so it helps get the fluids to flush his kidneys.

We tried slowly transitioning him to the kidney diet food, but once we put more than a tablespoon of it in the congee he stops being as interested in eating it.

He's put a good amount of his weight back on ... he's still a lazy miserable dog.... but he seems to be enjoying his life as much as he did before.

They can keep terminally ill and coma patients alive for years....that doesn't mean there's any quality of or joy to their existence....

I do hope when you get old and your body is failing you, that they feed you bowls of gruel 3 times a day and keep you alive for years, while your mind stays sharp but your body no longer responds to your brain...then, everything that goes on in your useless brain will truly be Vickie's Secret....who knows, they may dress you up in designer diapers...

hehe... I didn't mean that to sound snotty... I mean... I've never been the sort to get all wrapped up in the "dogs are people" thing. "it" has always seemed just as appropriate as "he/she" for animals.

The woman on the other hand goes full on attributing personality traits and thoughts and religions to dogs.

dude... you've got serious problems if that's your wish for people you've never met.

Personally I hope I get killed by an enraged idiot from a discount cigar forum who hunts me down and shoots me because they don't have the coping mechanisms necessary to deal with social interactions before any of that happens.

so... next monday good for you?

I don't wish that on every one, just you, and I can honestly say I hope we never meet....I don't think I'd ever be able to scrape you off the bottom of my shoe, like the dogchit you are....

You still haven't shown us where I EVER told you to kill your dog....You lying piece of dogchit!

oh no.

my dreams have been crushed.

never? like... I'll never get to meet you?

Then what unstable, poorly socialized, miserable, discount cigar forum member is going to kill me before your personal wish that I live a crippled existence locked in my own brain comes true?

...sigh.... now I have to go try to get tcby to come back.

Work called and woke me from my nap. Asked if I'd consider coming in and working 11p-3p.

I said they gotta gimme some of that bonus pay for the whole 16 hours, they said only for 8.

So I said no. But still kinda considering it. Roofer dropped off samples today, has us scheduled for mid-late November. Still don't have the money for it.
