Sort of an interesting story

Cummings stopped at a gas station in Catonsville, Maryland, on Mother’s Day 2008, just moments after a father-to-be was stabbed during a robbery while taking his expectant wife to the hospital to deliver their son.

“As I was driving up to get my gas, there were three or four well-dressed African-American ladies on cell phones and they were crying,” Cummings told the Washington Examiner a few days later. “I looked to my right and I saw a man with blood spewing out. I thought he had been shot.”

Cummings tried to comfort the man, 19-year-old Carlos Santay-Carrillo, before help arrived.

“It couldn’t have been more than 20 seconds before I got there,” Cummings said. “He was lying there by himself. He stood up, and the blood kept coming. He fell on his face. He turned over a little bit. I just started talking to him. I said, ‘It’s going to be all right. It’s going to be OK.'”

The lawmaker said Santay-Carrillo tried repeatedly to stand up and fought to stay alive, despite his grievous wound.

“The thing that got me, he kept trying to get up,” Cummings said. “He was trying very hard. He must have rose up at least four or five times. He fought. He didn’t have much strength, but he fought.

“His heart had been punctured,” Cummings added. “For him to live for 30 minutes, that means he had a real drive to stay alive.”

The part this story left out and I recall hearing earlier but can't find on the interwebs is the dude was trying to stay alive for out of concern for his kid (or maybe the unborn kid... I dunno) and didn't speak much english. Cummings was praying and the one word the guy seemed to respond to was Jesus.

Cummings constantly reached out to the "other side" even when there was no reciprocity.

True enough. The man had the courage of his convictions. That in itself is a rarity in politics anymore. Sad

a respected and respectful servant of his constituents, a decent and honorable man...

wish more politicians on both sides of the aisle would comport themselves in the manner in which Cummings did...

one would hope that (most) Americans would love showing the world how far the son of sharecroppers traveled regardless of political beliefs. It's just another amazing story of the opportunity offered in America.

So far that is happening here.

who wouldn't want to be here?

Probably not the best thing to say, but Cummings has spewed his share of rhetoric as well. It’s sad that we live in a time that people would even consider something like this.

I don't remember him actually saying that and can't find the actual quote anywhere reputable. He may have but its sure hard to find

And he did try to reach out to not only the other side (consistently) but directly to trump.

I think he was a good man.

Not saving he wasn’t a good man. Only that he wasn’t immune to the cancer we call politics.

I dunno... I followed him quite a bit. While I didn't agree with his views he came across to me as different, and an honorable man. I did like what he did with his republican co chair (which I spoke of before his death) and honestly liked how he tried to work with the other party while sticking to his principals (which some here disagree with).

I see him as different and one of the good guys for a dem. Yes, trump subjected him to the smear machine but I'd not seen that previously and he seemed well respected by both parties. Trump is just not the norm and has no integrity.

I think some in here confuse him with the Lewis guy.

I couldn't find the "dead body" quote ZRX attributed to Cummings either...

I just remember the time a few months ago when Mark Meadows was publicly accused of being a racist and asked for, and received, a lifeline from Cummings...

Cummings also said he doesn't believe Trump is a racist...

I guess ZRX will spit on the grave of more than half of all Americans, including the Never Trump human scum GOP when they die...

ironically, or maybe not, I heard Trump's son in law owns some filthy rat infested properties in that chithole city in which no one wants to live.
Would be a nice gesture to lead the way in making the properties safe and sanitary...oh, who am I kidding?

I had a friend who hated Barbara Bush. He had a painting of her likeness put in his toilet (college art majors). He pooped and peed on her every day as did others.

I liked him but told him he was an idiot. Not because I liked Barb and her husband in an environment where it was uncool to do so, but because I really don’t get the vitriol towards the other political party or especially their families. It lacks class or decency. The one exception is if the family member is injected in to government business like Hillary was. Even then go after the actions.

I do have to admit I pooped on barb once though. Hang over with coffee was the culprit.

One thing Barack Obama really likes... is Barack Obama

Over the years, the former president has used all kinds of events to talk about himself. Often, they’re the most inappropriate venues at which to deliver an egocentric speech.

Cummings was a civil rights icon. Born in 1951 to sharecropper parents, he was destined for big things. When he was just 11, he led a group of boys to a whites-only pool in Baltimore and jumped in. Whites protested, holding up signs that said, “Keep Our Pool Germ Free” and “White People Have Rights Too,” the Washington Post reported.

At one point, a mob “surrounded the pool, held back by a line of police with K-9 dogs, while the kids tried to splash and play. Then, over the police officers’ heads, the mob threw rocks and bottles. One of them hit Cummings in the face, cutting his eyebrow and leaving a scar he carried all his life.”

Cummings attended college and then got his law degree. He served for 14 years in the Maryland House of Delegates and then won election to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served until his death Oct. 17 at age 68.

But Obama used a eulogy for the late Democratic lawmaker on Friday to talk about himself. In a 15-minute speech, “Obama referenced himself 30 times, averaging twice per minute. Overall, he used the word ‘I,’ 24 times, ‘me’ 3 times, and ‘my’ another 3 times,” Grabien reported.

“I remember I had the pleasure of meeting Elijah’s mother, Ruth, and she told me she prayed for me every day, and I knew it was true, and I felt better for it,” Obama said. “I was thinking I would want my daughters to know how much I love them, but I would also want them to know that being a strong man includes being kind — a strong man includes being kind,” he said.

Obama even sought to buck up his flagging legacy. “Once during my presidency, when the economy still looked like it might plunge into depression, when the health-care bill was pronounced dead in Congress, I would watch Elijah rally his colleagues,” Obama said.

It’s not the first time Obama obsessed about himself in a speech. In April, Obama outdid himself.

“President Obama was in Germany on Saturday, ostensibly to speak about ‘community leadership and civic engagement’ on behalf of his eponymous Obama Foundation, but Berliners soon discovered his main topic of interest was Barack Obama. Obama talking about himself in an almost obsessive manner is no new phenomenon, but today he shattered his own records. Over the course of a 90-minute town hall with ‘emerging leaders,’ Obama mentioned himself an eye-popping 467 times,” Grabien reported then.

After that speech, Thomas Lifson, editor and publisher of American Thinker, offered an insight.

“The post-presidential era of his life seems to be a bit of a challenge to the ego of Barack Hussein Obama. Never shy about referring to himself while president, now that man in the White House is reversing his policies and spectacularly succeeding, it’s got to be hard on his self-esteem. And let’s not forget the psychological pressure that may be building in the wake of the collapse of the Russia Hoax and the possible investigation of its origins,” he wrote.

In his eulogy, Obama also targeted his successor — without naming him, of course.

“There’s nothing weak about kindness and compassion,” he said. “There’s nothing weak about looking out for others. There’s nothing weak about being honorable. You’re not a sucker to have integrity and to treat others with respect.”

Wrote Grabien:

Pointing to a sign referring to “the Honorable,” Mr. Cummings, Obama continued: “That’s a title that we confer to all kinds of people who get elected to public office. We’re supposed to introduce them as honorable. But Elijah Cummings was honorable before he was elected to office. There’s a difference. There’s a difference if you were honorable and treated others honorably outside the limelight.”

The crowd knew Obama was digging at President Trump — who had a notoriously testy relationship with the departed lawmaker — and cheered wildly.

I wonder how bammy self like (no argument) compares to trump.

Compare bammys speech after obl to yesterday’s trump speech. If you don’t lol you haven’t compared them.

What a maroon.

saying stuff like... I was honored to meet Cumming's mother and she told me she prayed for me... is not really talking about himself, despite a 3 count of I and me.
what a mixed pretense to knock him.

I'm just glad that his daughter, oops, I mean his wife didn't disrespect the sanctimony of his funeral by revving up the crowd with obvious anti Trump rhetoric...

She was probably at the World Series game too.
