Morning all. Was going to now lawn but have discovered a hornet/wasp nest in one of the trees about 2ft tall and 1.5ish feet diameter. I'm officially intimidated

Thought along those lines, but don't have a clear backdrop at any angle. Would have to pick which neighbor to start a feud with

Get a big strip of blackjack firecrackers. Coat one side with caulk or similarly thick adhesive and tie on an extra long wick. Cover all your body with extra clothes and goggles for the eyes. Wrap it around the nest at night while they're dormant. Light it at your leisure the next day.

Or just garbage bag it at night and let em die. Or toss in the burn pit/pile/barrel and light on fire

Morning Ram.

SOB, Dan is all over that hornet thing. All of his suggestions will work, Hornet spray will work, eventually, but you'll have a swarm of pissed off hornets until it does.

FYI, hornets and bumble bees can sting right through a beekeeper's suit. So if you have a friend that's a beekeeper and wants to help, that doesn't know that, it's nice to share. BigGrin

If you do the garbage bag catch thing, and let them die off, those nests get at least $40 a pop around here from folks wanting to decorate with them.

Whipped up some corned beef hash and poached eggs for lunch. Corned beef, onion, potatoes, bell pepper, some cabbage. Get it good and crispy. Oh yeah. The yolks are the best gravy over that, and an english muffin to mop it all up. Black coffee of course. Now to go mulch leaves. Woohoo!

I've thought through some of these (minus the firecrackers). Still makes me nervous. I've experienced a significant increased reaction to stings in the past 10-15yrs than I ever did in my youth

Same. But I still have to deal with a nest or three every year. Mostly the underground kind. Three or four thick layers, welding gloves, rubber boots with a pants layer over the top, duct taped seams, bath towel around the head, another around neck and face, chemical goggles. Haven't been stung in a few years. Number 1 trick is work at night, especially now when it's cold. They'll be dormant.

But I've shot em down, blown em up, and if removable, bagged then cut down the branch and lit on fire.

Fire works best.

I still surprise myself at just how bad I can be at fanduel picks... I do ok with money... I've only put $10 in this year and I won $30 off a $2 contest and I've won 10-25 cents off of nickel contests numerous times... but then some sundays - like today - I'll go like 1-50 on my contests... shockingly bad...

My strategy is to leave hornets alone. They move every year and make a new nest. I've mowed near them and even bumped into them without being attacked. Yellow jackets are the nastiest of the bee world. Last year I bought some expensive poison to deal with a yelloe jacket nest on the property border. Before I could dust them a bear or some other critter dug the nest up and destroyed it. This year a spotted another near where I store my boats. Same story- before I got to it, something dug it up.
My advice is to leave it alone and work carefully around it.

I put away the tiller today, and dug out the snowblower. I had to get the pressure washer out to get to the snow blower so I checked the gas tank. Gas. Damn it.

OK. I go ahead and run it out. Well, that led to washing siding, which led to cleaning the porch steps, which ended up with my going through two tanks of gas since I cleaned the deck too. Holy crap. But, it needed done, looks good, and I burned out all of the gas from the pressure washer. BigGrin

My back is telling me did some work today, and if my neighbor doesn't get home quick, I'm starting our Sunday herf solo. Beer

Holy sheepsh*t, Batman... the Niners have scored 44 on the Panthers.

After all those years of picking high in the first round, they might be back to good again.

In Boca Raton for the day visiting my daughter!. Went to a phenomenal produce market in Hollywood and then down to Little Havana to eat at one of my favorite restaurants- Cafe Versailles. Not going to make it home for kick-off for the UCF game at 7pm, but I'll probably just miss the first and a large part of the second quarter

Versailles is exceptional. Don’t they also have a location a little north of FLL?

Cigar n beer in the garage.

Had to run up in the attic and reposition the antenna so wife n boy could watch Charlie Brown Halloween special. I can pick up half the Chicago stations at 10 degrees west, the other half at 15 degrees west. Not much in the middle.
