So thankful you shared that. I see CA has fewer earned high school diplomas than the Sip.

However I don’t think education is a point you want to argue. It’s not the republican base that falls short of being educated....speaking for MS only. The facts are there for you to educate yourself.

Nice try though Sport.

So. A free voter ID card was created.
Also available were free rides to attain said card. Actually a multitude of picture IDs are acceptable

I saw the Sip in the lowest ranked 5 states in every category but one. Didn’t see the category for the Republican base.

But OK.

This is still a state? I thought they fenced it off and just let it go back to nature. Who knew?

the laws in Mississippi have nothing to do with voter ID or voter registration...they were enacted decades ago...

read just one of the articles to get the gist of what happens in the Sip during statewide elections...

Delta I’m going to explain something to you because I don’t expect you to be a scholar on MS history.

Just take a moment and see how democrat Gov Ronny Musgrove came into office.
He used the same laws that the same party is now fighting.

That’s right, the democrats benefited from the laws they are fussing about today.

Funny how things become an issue when the outcome changes.

Next time study up a bit before flapping that mouth. It just makes you look really ignorant.

you're right ...I'm no scholar on MS political history...

but, like so many Southern Democrat states in the South, most politicians in the state switched parties and went with the GOP in the 80's and 90's, when the state went from a historically blue state to one that has been solidly GOP since then...at the time Musgrove was elected...

state has a history of unconstitutional redistricting...

I'll keep my mouth shut...Mississippians are entitled to the laws they want that withstand Constitutional challenge, and can elect whoever they want to serve and represent them...

Delta, if a law is deemed constitutional then it is untill it is ruled unconstitutional by someone, usually SCOTUS. I choose to boycott products from Mississippi because I strongly disagree with some of their practices, such as the battle flag on their state flag, but I would stand shoulder to shoulder with Ray, and Mattie to protest for their rights, such as that flag. I suspect they would stand shoulder to shoulder with me to protect my rights, even if they disagree with them. Do you really think they are racists, or they see life differently than you or I do? Mattie, Ray, if I have spoke differently than you feel, my bad.

Boycott?
Because of their state flag?

Really???

Seems awfully snowflakey if you ask me.
And even if you don't.

Not being argumentative because I know you came from a supportive place with what you wrote.

But.....

I honestly have so Care about our state flag. Leave it, change it...I don’t care. It’s nothing sacred to me. Nothing like Ole Glory.

I couldn’t stand shoulder to shoulder with you if you wanted to protect your right to choose life. I just don’t agree with it.
But that’s not what this thread is about.

But before this turns south....thank you for your words Spey.

Come visit and the wine in on my tab.

I don't think Delta or anyone else accused Ray or Mattie of being racist. I don't believe anyone here thinks they are. Being of a place with a history of racist policies does not automatically make one a racist.

to be clear, and for the sake of truth: the Jim Crow law that calls for the Mississippi legislature to declare a winner of a race for statewide office if neither candidate gets a majority of votes, and may even select the candidate with the fewer votes...that law did not come into play during this election.

and on further reflection, Mississippi's election statutes are not all that different, in some respects, from the US general election: where the winner of the most votes, even if it is a majority of votes, does not win the race...that candidate may not get enough electoral college votes to win...as has happened a couple of times in my life-time...

apologies to FGM and MattieB for insinuating that their home state is governed by racist election laws...

we Americans are living in Mississippi, at large...

and California has some odd election laws too...one party can have two candidates listed on the ballot, while the other may not have a candidate at all, if the two candidates are the top two vote getters in the primary

Don't worry, Trump will still win Kentucky by at least 30 points next year. fog

Southern Democrats, a real subset of the Democratic party, who converted en mass when the base rejected their positions as the push for the Civil Rights Movement got closer to reality.
Now members of the GOP.
