Oh boy.....my brothers didn’t subside for 2 months due to the root having to be removed. I’d say “I feel ya” but it’s second hand experience.

Common, and expected.

Don't let it discourage you.

It's a side effect of inflammation at the surgical site, which is a normal thing to happen when you been chopped up a bit.

This is what I do for a living. Pretty common for patients to get very discouraged by afib after ascending aneurysms, aortic valves, and aortic root surgery. It's extremely common, due to anatomy.

Thanks dan. I am getting discouraged. Two steps forward three back or something like that.

Pulmonary edema too. Haven’t really started anything forward thinking yet.

All common, all manageable. Keep on keeping on.

It's a long rough road.

Keep up with your deep breathing/coughing exercise routine.

Keep walking as they allow.

This too shall pass. The shock to your body is immense after these procedures. Things happen. But the fact that you're coherent and conscious is a HUGE deal. Everything else can recover with time and hard work. It's a tough surgery to go through. But you got this if you can keep your mind right. It's incredibly hard work, but it's gotta get done, and you're the only guy for the job.

Nurse is trying to avoid me and not give me scheduled pain meds. It’s the same nurse that never brought the previous nights and send me back a day.

She an hour late now. I think it’s intentional

Shouldn't have tried the "divine fulcrum" thing someone mentioned earlier

Seriously, hope it's not intentional simply because that's chit behavior if it is. Is there someone to lodge a complaint with, or is that not wise while you're still stuck with them?

Maybe we should all go visit TW and bring a bottle for medicinal purposes. I think I got thrown out of a hospital for that tho. Sure liked it when I was a patient tho.

As Dan said, all quite common, you got this, Brother.

Another side effect of heart works, bypasses, etc. just happens to be depression, more in men than women. My brother changed after his, for sure.

As for the edema, somehow, I survived two rounds, both lungs full!! And walked into a walk -in clinic the first time, hehe. Dr. told me a few years later when I was in for a bad round of flu that I was the very reason the red sign is now on the door and front desk explaining that if you have severe chest pains, got to the ER, LMAO!

Whew that his has been a rough one. I’ve been out of afib for an hour or so though.

I think my wife made one of the cnas cry. I tried to talk through and mediate bit but I don’t think it’s working.

I need someone to wipe my ass.

My wife went all Puerto Rican on the poor thing. I had to explain to her the first place my wife goes with stress, feet and sadness is to anger. I told her I appreciated her and it wasn’t her fault.

I felt power in the moment.

I don’t as sincere but I also needed her to clean my bum.

Still out of afib and feeling a bit better.

They let m shower. That was the fight. The CNA left me on the toilet to switch myself to the shower. Sh said by the time you get to showering you don’t need help anymore.

She let me self transfer on a wet floor when they won’t let me even go to the bathroom myself.

Meh.

Did I mention I have cool titanium X-men clamps in my chest?

The weight will go down as long as you're peeing a lot.

The pulmonary edema will subside once you've peed off a good bit of that weight.

Did they remove your pacemaker wires already? Some surgeons pull em pretty early, we typically keep em till damn near discharge day and you can't shower with em in.

Nice. Freaking nursing assistants make some dubious decisions. Don't feel like the lone ranger, my wife went full on bat **** crazy on the cna's when I had surgery. They were bull****ting and changing the linen on my bed. I kept telling them "that hurts" and they just kept on. Bad call. Argh!

She went off on them, went and found the nurses, went off on them, found out their supervisor was in the cafeteria and shot down there and went off on her. She was looking for my doctor when her and the surgeon crossed pathes and he finally got her calmed down. Never saw those two again.

My level of care went way way up. LOL.

This may be a good thing in the long run.

You're on day 6?

Should be about right.

Pain control usually happens around day 3-4. Seems to coincide with pooping, which also happens between days 3-5. Also chest tubes are usually out by that time which is a significant source of pain. That stabbing feeling you had in the armpit, under the breast, or between the shoulder blades is the chest tubes jabbing you on the inside.

Days 5-6 people usually start doing more things for themselves, mobility and appetite starts to improve, and start feeling a sense of normalcy.

Just keep your mind right. You're on track, and no major setbacks. Even the things that are getting you down, are minor. They may seem major, but you're on track and doing well.

I took on a patient the same day of your surgery with a very similar surgery. Ascending aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve replacement, and bypass. I landed them from surgery as they didn't come back till about 8pm.

Following your progress and it's been mirroring my patient almost exactly up until I left Tuesday morning.

My patient transferred out of ICU yesterday, but was stuck in their head super depressed about the afib, and the bipap mask with the pulmonary edema, and the pain issues...

All normal things that happen. We hope they don't, but they do, and we're prepared for them.
