I disagree, sir. Having shopped in the commissary, where everything is sold at cost and a 5% surcharge is added to your total to keep the lights on, I know that grocery stores mark things up as much as 100% and more, depending on the item.

For example... family size box of cereal for $2 in the commissary... $4.50 at the local grocery store for the same exact box.

Meats? 25-50% more. Dairy, produce and such wasn't as bad, but it is obvious to me grocery stores price gouge on a lot of stuff.

The vast majority are not.

Cry?

Sounds like any other new buisness owner. Report back in a year regarding your change of opinion. I sincerely hope you are still a part owner of a new buisness that is continuing to grow at a healthy rate. If so, you’ll be in the 10 percent of first year owners that didn’t go belly up.

Okay this made me laugh. I got the people's eyebrow from my son... as if to say... "There he goes again, the old man laughing at nothing.... I can"t wait to put him in a home!"

My son has a VERY expressive eyebrow.

It's been mislabeled! No one here can pass on a good deal!

P.S. I would have searched the entire meat dept for more!

Well then... I shall defer to your dad's expertise!

The cereal always stood out to me, as it was more than a 100% markup.

It’s not just store policy, in most (all?) places, it’s the law.

Are you talking about mislabeled pricing?

If so, you're incorrect.

edit:

I believe you are incorrect.
I've not seen any laws to support your statement, but neither have I done any research.

Look at it this way:

You go into a car dealer and the $42,000 Sierra has a sale sticker that should read $38,000 but due to a typo it reads $3800.

You think you're driving outta there at that price?

I believe it varies state to state. Best Buy had a back up system with what I knew to be a ridiculously good price for it. Being in the market for one I grabbed it and went to the register. He scanned it, the price came up as the normal. I told them what the tag said, and I was prepared to pass on it. But the manager came over, they got the tag off the shelf, and gave it to me for that price.

The manager was explaining to the checkout guy they are legally required to honor the displayed shelf price for that one unit, but no more. And they changed the tag.

I would assume that it is a state by state issue.

Now I also know that does not apply to misprinted advertisements in the paper though. That's different.

Okay . . . If THAT was the case, and it WAS, in fact, the law that they had to sell it to me for the $3800 sticker price, I would not take advantage of the situation. I WOULD, however, expect the salesman/sales manager to give me a break on the $38,000 sale price for being a such a nice guy !
