it is an amazing experience sitting in a 4,000 pound metal container when it loses traction and goes spinning and sliding in dizzying directions and all you can do is sit back and watch the world go by in slow motion, wondering if you're gonna hit something or something is gonna hit you...hoping it won't hurt physically and/or financially....

why does time seem to slow down when calamity is about to smack you?

So you have time to fully enjoy the experience?Think

I remember the 2nd or 3rd time I went skydiving.
let go... did my internal count.... looked over my left shoulder... parachute was a bit of a crumpled mess... looked over my right shoulder.... parachute was still a bit of a crumpled mess. Kind of catching air... but not really

By that time we were supposed to dump the chute and go to our backup. But I remember yanking a few times on my lines to see if I could get it to open fully. Don't know how much time that took. It couldn't have been more than a couple seconds, or I'd be dead. But it felt like a pretty long time.

I don't think I went skydiving again after that. I may or may not gone one more time that day (honestly can't remember) but never went to the site again.

On the less suspenseful side of life, Casa F located. Mojitos, as advertised, are excellent. Airplane aches are fading appropriately

Nope.

Snow tires cost me a lot less.

Rear ending people and multiple tows from various ditches is a lot more expensive than tires.

Nice, SOB. Enjoy your time in Sin City.

I went to my appointment with CalPers this morning. Signed my retirement paperwork. May 20th is last day working for my current employer.

I need to mail them a canceled check for my direct deposit info and a copy of my marriage certificate to prove we've been married for more than a year. Other'n that... I'm on my way to retirement.

Stopped by work and submitted my retirement memorandum to the sheriff.

I didn't even see him. I typed up the memorandum, had one of the accounting ladies scan and e-mail it to him, and put the signed copy in his mailbox. I don't think the LT had any idea... but my Sgt partners sure did.

Nah... just tired of the environment. The LT is a decent dude, and since he is sworn, he isn't gonna be there very long. He'll be back at a patrol station before this years up, I'd bet.

Another 1.5 seminar filled days, then straight back to the airport. Skipping the hockey game schmoozing tomorrow night just to wrest some control over some of my time.

Can barely afford the drinks. I'll see what I can do with sleight of hand. There aren't too many cameras around this place are there?

Just walk around like you own the joint and stuff one of the ashtrays down your pants. Pretty sure no one will notice.

Hey Drafter - did you have a color preference?

Auto show was great.

Forecast calling for freezing rain and snow accumulations and stuff. Combined with a weekday night and the place was nearly empty. Saw what I wanted to see.

Went out for pizza after.

Now shoveling the driveway. Heavy slushy crap

Thanks fellas.

I'll have to do something else. Too young to sit home, but I will take some time to enjoy life, first. I'd like to find something to do where I work with tools. My first 6 years in the Navy was working in the boiler room. Loved it, was very good at it, and I like to fix stuff. Maybe outboard engine repair or something... 2 things I like. Fixing stuff and boats.

Congrats, you will enjoy life much better without the stress, and if you have a small work space at home, the outboard engine repair will be a good one. There's always a shortage of folks that can actually do the work properly for a fair price.

Morning ALL, especially you Drafter, seems we had a similar experience, only my spinning didn't stop with just the flip. Flip went onto an embankment, at that point, I was upside down. The embankment had enough slope that allowed me to roll a couple of times until the vehicle was sitting upright in the same lane I had originally left as I crossed into the muddy divided portion of that little short stretch of road. Crushed the top of that old Malibu down to below the headrest on the passengers side, and the only spot that didn't get crushed that low was the driver's seat space!! All I cold do was hang onto the steering wheel and the gear shift knob/handle between the two front seats.

NATIONAL BREAK UP WITH YOUR CARRIER DAY - Damn Dish is out. Snow over night - not much and melting. Critter tracks on the deck - Beaver as close as we can tell, but I don't believe it. Looks like a lousy start to the day with rain expected.

Morning, peoples. Day 2 in Seminar land. Boss last night was drunk, set on gambling, and wanted company. I repeated I can't afford to gamble, so he decided to bankroll me at blackjack. Proceeded to win about $500 for him and he gave me $100 bucks for it. Now I'm scared. This is how the gambling bug bites you

Nah...you're good. You recognize the risk before it sets in. On the other hand, you own your boss now.
