Just gonna say this once, cause I care about a few of you azzhats.

You better start paying attention to what’s going on.
The situation is considerably worse than most of you think.
I’m not trying to get all Jonsey here, but I do have some knowledge and sources of info.
It’s not just the virus that’s going to cause problems because it will kill a certain percentage of people.
It’s the ancillary damage it will cause to the global economy, which has already started.

Start preparing.

I started stocking up on stuff several weeks ago when I saw what it was and the "published" numbers. It's going vertical quick.

We stockpiled Masks, respirators, specific med stuff I didn't have. I had to make sure I had the sizes and numbers to cover my grand-kids. We're good now. It's probably too late to get masks even here now. You need the surgical style N-95 with vapor/moisture barriers.

The rest we're already pretty good on.

Some new data today. They think the incubation period can go up to 24 days now.

The virus has stayed viable and persistent for 9 days on surfaces. I.E. countertops. Door knobs. Packaging.

This one's ugly. Really ugly. Wash your hands. A lot. Especially after taking or donning your shoes in addition to all the other times.

I'll add this. Water folks. You can't live without water. Clean water. There won't be bottled available, and it's hard to move and store large amounts. I'd start there.

I think they built a bomb shelter on my property when they built the place in 1960.
I'll probably move the fam in after Passover...if the warm weather doesn't kill it off like Trump promised.

This is no time for Americans to start believing in science!
Certainly not the media!

All credit for my brilliance this evening rightfully belongs to vodka.

I'm living on the edge. No flu shot for me. But influenza A and B have killed an estimated 12000-15000 people in the US this season alone. Now we might run out of cheap chinese shiite on the shelves if they don't rein this in but as far as a pandemic in the US I'm not overly concerned.

Well played. Yeah, I'm not a panic driven type, but the numbers are impressive. The case rate has exploded, and it's here. There has already been one in Peoria.

Ask Danm how many more patients they need to saturate the system as it is now.

Some masks, sanitizer, and food I'm going to eat anyway is simply prudent. Especially if there are small kids in the mix.

YMMV. Frying pan

Yep..........it’s not so much the threat of the virus itself........yet.......it’s the ancillary effects, and that has already begun.
For instance, we get a LOT of our meds, and med ingredients, from China......particularly antibiotics.
That pipeline has already been impacted, and it will take quite a while for us to produce those “in-house” in the quantities needed.
There’s dozens of other examples...........I’m not a fear monger prepper freak either........well, maybe a bit of a prepper..................but this chit is real.
We’re simply 6-8 weeks behind China......

In all seriousness, this isn't going to be that bad.

This virus seems to spread quickly and easily, but it's not showing a particularly high mortality.
At first glance we've got 40k cases in china, with only 1k dead. And keep in mind death rate is likely estimated higher at the beginning of an outbreak, due to sampling errors (early on in an outbreak you will see a higher death rate as cases which only result in illness may not be noticed as the novel virus.)...

Like someone said earlier, Influenza is still a more disruptive disease. Get vaccinated.

A man in China is facing criminal charges after he strapped firecrackers to his body and doused himself in gasoline when a ban put in place to prevent the spread of the coronaviruscanceled his birthday party, reports say.

The 59-year-old Chongqing resident had planned a birthday banquet with more than 10 tables' worth of guests last month when local officials asked him to cancel the Jan. 28 celebration in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Reuters reported, citing state-run Xinhua news

But when the man, who has not been identified, failed to convince officials to reconsider two days before the birthday bash was set to take place, he allegedly wrapped firecrackers around his waist, poured gasoline on his chest and held up a lighter — threatening them into lifting the ban.

“The actions prevented town and village cadres from carrying out epidemic prevention and control work,” Xinhua said, adding that 10 patients visiting a clinic on a lower level of the same building had also been affected, Reuters reported.

The man was charged with disorderly behavior, although it wasn’t immediately clear what the penalties would be, the New York Post reported.
