Good morning.
Nothing planned today. Staying home to avoid exposure.
My bro, a physician, overnighted surgical masks to us.
Now, we are just waiting for the gloves from Amazon...

Morning. Wife and I are headed out to do semi-annual riparian photo point work for the Tonto National Forest. Basically taking photos in the exact same place along stream beds over many years. This info is used to decide forest management direction regarding range allotments for grazing permits, etc.

For us it's just another reason to be out on a hike and doing some volunteering at the same time. Started out about 20 years ago doing micro invertibrit sampling in streams. Water bug collecting.

I didn’t think so. They were purchased probably 18 months ago. Saw the Use By Jan 9, 2020 last night.
Still have both bottles of Temecula olives. Don’t see an expire date on those.
Better start chomping on them.

Camper sleep was insufficient. Boy and I both up around 0400 cause of the rain n thunder.

Went inside at 630, ate breakfast. Boy finished his LEGO Yoda.

Now on to watching the Lord of the Rings Two Towers. Watched the first one yesterday. Gonna work our way through all 6, then we're going to watch the Star Wars movies.

That's a best if used by date probably. And those are always conservative. They're good for a long time.

Looking online at Lego store and Amazon, the set I want to order is out of stock everywhere. I want the Creator Expert Assembly Square. 4k pieces should keep the boy busy another 2 weeks but it's out of stock everywhere I've looked

I considered buying it for investment purposes.

I've done that in the past with some Lego sets. Buy, store, sell. Usually nets a 50% return at two-three years.

I bought all the Simpson's sets with the intent to keep and resell, but I et the boy build them, and I really like em.

I'm not enough of a star wars nut to buy the falcon. It's nearly 3ft across, I got nowhere to display it.

Seeing listings over 1k on ebay, even though it's still available from Lego

There's still money to be had from already built sets if you save the box (I save all of them) but it's less than sealed.

Pretty safe guarantee you can resell for new price if everything's there and you saved the box.

Yeah, same with my comics on the value. Not supposed to read them, but I do, carefully. It's the reason they were created after all.

Resale's pretty fickle in comic book world though depending on crowd interest at the time. For example, New Mutants #98 (1st appearance of Deadpool) could be found in $0.50 bins everywhere for 20yrs running. Once the movie release date got closer in 2016, I started seeing the same issue for sale for $350ea.

Back door of the lounge will open if you know the secret knock code. Just signed 2 new members who bought 2 boxes each then bought lunch for the rest of us. That's how you join a club! Both doctors so I didn't mind the mooch, I know I'll get them back having learned their preferred tastes in bourbon and smokes

Yeah, my nephews went every delivery day and bought comic, put them in plastic, and filed them during the 80's and 90's. I tried telling them the reason the old ones "are" valuable is because we read them into dust. Few survived. Like baseball cards. We traded them then used them to make our bikes sound like motorcycles. LOL.

With all the people saving that stuff now, they're not worth squat anymore. Unless, like the deadpool thing there is a spike in interest. And if there is, sell the damned things. LOL

The 90s were when collectible value went to hell. Companies were printing repeat issues with multiple covers and everyone was saving all of them. The nephews might find some OK value in some of the 80s ones depending on the issue, and how early in the decade they were published. But like you say, they'll rarely get to the level of the majority of Golden Age (late '30s-early '50s) and Silver Age (Late '50s-early '70s) books

That's the trick. Guessing what people will pay for 20yrs down the road. Or devote money and space to buying everything and storing it, and as Danm menntioned, don't open anything.

I actually saw recently that there's a Yoda action figure from back in early 80s that had an orange snake. Figure with all the parts listed for around $50 on Ebay. Figure still in the box listed for $250. My figure when I was a kid, that I distinctly remember having an orange snake but no longer have, maybe about $0.01

My brother died when he was 8. Years later we were finding his star wars figures in plants and other hidden places around the house.

We had the giant Death Star, M falcon etc. still have most of it at my folks place.

We're up to 3 employees and 1 inmate for the corona. Like I said, unless I already had it and got over it without even knowing it (totally possible since I picked up my BIL at LAX January 21 and was surrounded by Chinese people in masks) I'll probably get it.

And work says... you gotta use your own sick time, that's not a worker's comp issue... Yeah. Okay.

Misdemeanor warrants, unless they are domestic violence related, are not being booked. Only felonies. If it's cite-able, they're getting cite released in the field. Bookings have slowed, but we're still busy enough.

All the extra BS admin wants is what is irritating. Lots of redundancy and stupidity.

Al... I'm greedy. I want that payout. If I get sick and they quarantine me for 14 days, so be it. If not... gimme my money. I think I have, or will have when I go, 178 vacation hours and about the same in sick hours since they will only pay me half.

That's a chunk-o-change.

Shawn, if you have the option to check out now, take it.

You're in an environment not unlike mine. If you can get away, get away.

Once this is over with, you can find other work.

Dan, I just burned 2 months of sick time. I have about 400 hours left but I'd have to go out on "sick leave" again while I'm healthy. Now up to 4 employees and 2 inmates positive, a handful of negatives and waiting on results for a few more.

I'm pretty healthy right now. Somebody has to man this place while the actually sick people recover. It is what it is.

been ordering take out here and there from our beloved locals...open the door, throw the money on the bar or even on the floor (averaging $20 over the tab), take a deep breath and grab the bag of food off the bar.

Shawn, I get the sense of duty, but like I told my guys repeatedly, there is nothing we do in peace time worth dying over.

Cover your six brother, you have family, that's what counts and who cares. The state of California could care less my man.
