Stogie, it's our honeymoon. We figured out how to best lower our Rona risk and are going that route. In fact she picked most of the experiences. It ain't cheap, but she is worth it. Me, not so much. Took me 3 tries. I got it right this time.

OK, I get it, I am not invited... Geez.

Trip sounds amazing, enjoy!

Or is there a shortage on all trucks your looking to buy. ? Think

All 3/4 tons are in short supply unless you're shopping what I'm trying to get rid of...

Any diesel under 100k miles and around $30k sells immediately. The gassers under 60k miles and 5 years under $30k sell immediately.

I prefer the Ram because they give the nicest interiors for the trim level among the three. I hate the Ford superduty interiors. The GM 6.0 is underpowered. Really the only complaint I have with my truck is the power. If I stay gas, I want Ram 6.4, then Ford 6.2, then GM 6.0, then Ram 5.7. If Diesel I want the Ram Cummins. But I don't know that I want diesel, though dollar for dollar comparison I'll lean toward the oil burner.

I go back to work for a week come Wednesday, so tomorrow's my last day to look for a while. I'm not seeing anything tonight online that warrants a trip. Might just have to hang up my coat and try again next week. My dad said I can use his truck to tow my camper to Michigan for my trackday in July, so that's covered. Still need to move my inlaws whenever they close in July, but I'll be able to do that with my truck and and open trailer.

I changed the oil out last night from 5w to 10w. Truck calls for 5w but I usually run 10 since I'm towing a lot and things get hotter than normal. Got a lot hotter with the 5w in there. On the highway today all my temps were normal. Yesterday on the highway I was running hot even without a trailer. Maybe I got some time.

Mangos were on sale, so I bought one.

Pureed it and blended with tequila, siimple syrup, ice, and a bit of lime juice. Split with the wife.

I'm properly drunk.

My first truck was a 76 Chevy, rode like a buckboard wagon and got probably 4 miles or gallon on a good day. I used to laugh at the rich folks with there fancy trucks with power windows and a CD player. Now my truck had a sun roof, heated seats, rear dvd entertainment system even tells me when I need to change the oil and fuel filter (I still to it early). It’s like a luxury car, which about all pickups are the same in that way these days. lol

There's a 2012 Bighorn Ram Cummins with 100k on the clock for $27k near my inlaws.

All the options I want, body's clean, interior's clean, has a lot of miles but not for the year and not for a Cummins.

Might make the trip tomorrow. Brother in law's gonna physically check if the truck is there. If I can argue 7k trade, $3500 down, and get out the door for for $17k I'll buy as long as the truck drives well and overall seems as good as the pictures. Dealer's only 5 minutes from inlaws house, and they have some stuff packed and ready to come up north so I can take a truckload up regardless so the trip won't be in vain.

My dad bought one of those cowboy cadillacs.

$75k but almost 90 on the sticker.

Sunroof, power extending tow mirrors, a sound system that rivals anything I've installed aftermarket, heated and cooled leather seats, a camera system that blows my mind (has a simulated aerial view like there's a camera pointed down from 20 ft above) automatic braking, steers you back into your lane if you drift without a signal on, etc... all among a long list of things to BREAK and cost a schitton of money to fix.

I want a relatively simple truck, only real creature comforts I want are power windows, air conditioning, and I'll add my own aftermarket premium stereo system. But I like the nicer surface treatments in higher trim levels over base, so I'd prefer to stay one step up.

Last truck I had was an 01 Silverado. Bought it new but had to wait for delivery because I didn't want any frills other than A/C. Standard transmission, full length bed.

I swear the thing was built on a Monday after Superbowl Sunday - couple recalls on the brakes, emissions problems, drive train problems, electrical problems, wouldn't lock into 4WD... I couldn't wait to get rid of the POS.

I really went at it with the dealer when the tranny started to go at about 80k. He looked at it and told me I needed a new or rebuilt one. I told him to put it back together and I will be down to pick it up and take it to my own transmission shop. I wasn't going to give that A-hole another dime for repairs. Picked it up, drove it across town and dropped it off at the place I selected. The transmission guy called me the next day and told me there was no transmission fluid in it. The F-n guy at the dealership put it back together, didn't put fluid back in it and allowed me to drive it off his lot. If I didn't need to have a new/rebuilt tranny before, I sure needed one now.

I have not bought or will ever buy another GM product again as long as I live (and even after I die).

Who you think im gonna take the new truck to first? Kelly, the trans dude. I dont like messing with those things, so I'll have him change the tranny fluid and filter as well as re-lube the front and rear end.

Everything I need, $45-50. Everything I want $55-60.

Looking at monthly payments, I can do $30k and be fine, payments would be the same as what my student loan payments were. Just paid those off in April. $35k and I'd be okay but would need to cash in 200 hours of PTO (I have 350, and they let you cash in with 100 remaining). I'd be hurting to go to $40, would definitely need to pull OT regularly again and I've been enjoying doing just 84 hours on my work week and nothing more.

Ideally I'd wait another year to get a new truck, pay off septic field replacement, pay off wife's car, and then shop a truck. But I can't tow heavy with my truck anymore, it's gonna crap out soon. I changed the oil a couple days ago and it was BLACK despite only 1500 miles since the last change. Part of me wants to just sell the truck to the dealer that offered me $6 to buy outright and live with one car for a while, but wife wants to go camping yet and I've got two track events. I can borrow my dad's truck though. I'm kinda torn on what to do.

I only make about $50k/year, so this is a HUGE purchase. House is paid off in fall of 2024 so I only need a truck to last 4 years.

When wife comes back from her dr appt we're gonna drive down to Indy to look at a Cummins.

I choose to stay where I'm at for the schedule and relatively short commute.

I could make significantly more if I was willing to commute to Chicago. I'd considered it in the past but I just don't want to deal with "being scheduled" vs setting my own, and adding 30 minutes to my commute time.

Heading down to Indy in 15 minutes.

If he was in CA he would get twice what he's paid. RN's here make $50 an hour easy... Charge Nurse? $60-$70 an hour. If Danm was a charge nurse here, he'd be making 125k a year... plus benefits.

Meh. I learned that in MO I have to pay a property tax on my car.... every single year.

And property taxes in SF at least are based on home value at purchase, not current value....

So I'm not really sure that it's worth not living in CA just for that.

Interesting information I just looked up.
https://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-states-to-be-a-taxpayer/2416/

Looks like CA is the 11th from lowest effective tax rate? I suppose we should just stop using that myth.

(note - in the interest of transparency, the link shows city/state etc taxes and includes sales tax. I don't believe they have a category for those additional taxes like "healthcare tax" that's included on dine-in food. But 11th from best, there's plenty of wiggle room before it becomes a "ridiculous and redundant" state taxes)

CA does the same thing on their registration for your vehicle. My wife's was damn near $500 this year. Florida? $90 to register your car... for TWO years. No smog, BS either.

CA is trying to repeal that law about your property taxes, too... and when I had my boat, guess what I got every year? A property tax bill. If CA was so great for you, why did you leave and why not hurry right back?

I remember a significant annual licensing fee, but I don't recall it being defined as a "tax". It's been a couple years, so I could be wrong... but I don't recall it being based on the vehicle value. I was pretty shocked when I got to MO and had to set up a property tax for a car I'd already paid taxes on when I bought it.

But like I said, my registration had been at the end of the 2 years or whatever... so I hadn't looked at it in a while

Wife was so against going on another 4 hour road trip to look at a truck she bought the carfax.

I'm glad she did... she definitely outsmarted me on this one.

8 years old, 5 registered owners. When i called I had asked about that, they said one owner trade in for a new Duramax.

Nope. Its been in both Dakotas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Indiana. Wholesaled 3x, and damage repaired 4x. Has a tuner installed too, which if a single owner truck isn't a deal killer, I'd install one myself out of warranty.

I called and canceled the appointment and went back home.

Awfully clean looking truck given its history. Brother in law physically saw it and said it looked good in person too.

Work called while I was out, gonna go in tonight for some OT. Save up a little more for truck shopping.

Septic field replacement "starts" tomorrow. Theyre dropping off excavator and skid loader. Had to get the camper out of the yard to give high ground access on my stone driveway where I keep the camper on the side of the house. Too swampy in the empty lot for the heavy stuff to drive through.

Theyre gonna start next week if weather stays dry enough. Building up some earth to keep field high but installing at the edge of the swamp so if we get too much rain we'll be underwater on the back half. Think we settled on 4 100ft lines out back and 2 shorter lines between. Currently only have 2 50ft lines and they breached the surface after grading the yard in 2010 and drain via a trench to my empty lot.

Towed camper to father in laws shop. I ran the truck harder than usual and temps stayed normal even with AC full blast. I did slightly overfill the trans and change engine oil to 10W instead of 5w it calls for. Only 1500 miles since my last change and the oil was pretty dark...

I've been shopping outside my immediate area, cause theres nothing here. Went to eastern and Central Indiana. Dont want to shop IL with their 10% sales tax but did look at two out that way. One was a used rental, the other just didn't fit my needs, 2wd and long bed.

But twice I've driven an hour plus to find the truck is gone, but listing still active. Yesterday the dealer told me they had the truck, only for me to drive 2 hours and have them offer me a Tundra, the Cummins I went to look at sold 2 days prior.

Going back to work for a week tonight. The search is on hold. Resume next Wednesday

Wife went out to her haircut appointment so I ended up cleaning our bathrooms and vacuuming the house. Thank goodness I was wearing a tank top! Think I’ll head out to the garage for a quick smoke.
