You should turn on the TV news (not the Faux) and hear about the two racial discrimination lawsuits this morning. I would suggest sending links to your Texas dinosour follower, but he is old and will never know any better.

Alarm is set to wake up on time for the darklord.

$200 for 5 bottles.

I almost want to try for 10, get the wife at it on her computer while I try on mine. I did just do 24 hours overtime on this pay period, could swing it.

Not nice to drag that crap into the 500... but...

That would be proof that systemic racism does not exist. The system is allowing for a lawsuit, and if racism is found, will correct it, or at a minimum punish it.

Good morning peoples... BigGrin

Up early for a couple mile swim.
I figured I may as well try this out... since the wife gets up at 5ish every day to go to the gym, it wakes me up half the time.... I may as well get it done early.

Problem is, if I don't go to the gym at night, I just end up staying at work until 730... And when I get home I can't fall asleep until midnight anyway.

Gonna be a long week

It looks like I moved quickly enough.

Wife did not.

I kept hitting refresh until it showed a buy button and already had credit card number in clipboard to ctrl V in the spot. Wife was typing it in at the same time as I was checking out. She wasn't able to complete purchase, I got a confirmation email.

Now gotta make sure I get there on 7/15. When you check out they give you a date to pickup and if you don't make it, your order is refunded. So there should be another round of sales I'd think.

That's gotta be some damn good beer for that hassle.

I like beer, but I don't think I like it enough to pay $50 a bottle for it and jump through those kind of hoops for the "privilege".

It’s pretty good. I’ve had a couple bottles gifted to me at different times. Both times by Gonesledn. Beer

Its damn good beer.

$50/bottle worthy? No... nothings that good. If it was more readily available I'd pay $30/bottle once a year or so.

But they keep it unobtainable, and on secondary market it resells for more.

Its really, really good beer.

I dont/won't do Dark Lord day festival, and that's the only way to get it, till today. The festival, you pay to get in, pay for beer, and pay for carry out beer with strict limits. 4 bottles would probably cost me $400 if I went the traditional route and skipped out on the party, just going and picking up my allotment. But even the festival sells out in a minute or two.

Can find it on Craigslist for $75/bottle year round for the standard variant. Sometimes $50, which is how I got the one bottle ive ever had. Today's sale was for a pack of vintage bottles from the last 6 years with a variety of special versions. Those tend to hit $100-$120 on Craigslist.

I Saw this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to get my hands on several years worth of Darklord. I'll trade off a couple bottles for cigars, and keep 2 for special occasions. Inlaws moving up to my county from Indy this summer, so we'll probably drink my bottles when they move in.

I cant objectively justify the purchase. But it was a rare opportunity that I went for.

Bombers.

22? 24? Something like that.

The big beer bottles.

I'd only open one if splitting 4-6 ways.

More or less arguing the purchase to myself.

I dont like to spend frivilously. Dont have the income to be doing that. Its a stupid buy, should use that money to repay the money ive already spent but don't have. But overtime on the check coming Friday will cover it.

Oh well. It will be enjoyed, and I'll trade off a couple for cigars that will give a longer period of enjoyment.

I have been to a couple Dark Lord Day with the husband. Even if I couldn't go, I always fought the online traffic to get him tickets. It has grown over the years. The attendees have changed also. There are some interesting people that attend from all over the US and not always in a good way. Standing in line for 2 plus hours was always fun depending on the weather. Those golden tickets are a thrill. I won both years along with getting the allotment. We stopped going 3 or 4 years ago. The enjoyment was really taken out of the day when they upped the price of the ticket and commericalized it way to much.

Hi Frankj1! How are you friend?

Sounds about right.

I worked in the ER 10-12 years ago and we dreaded Dark Lord Day. So many people ended up drunk/injured with us always combative and out of their damn mind. Prior to that, I'd wanted to participate but never landed tickets.

The situation has not changed much, except that there'a a new hospital built in 2012ish right by the brewery, and they get the brunt of things.

I've been going to 3F since they opened the brewpub maybe 20 years back? I only heard about them when I was working in a local meat market and they asked us to use their beer (Robert the Bruce) in a custom sausage mix. I used to blend their sausages and I tried the beer and was shocked at what I tasted cause it wasn't like the beers I had before. I'd only drank standard american beers, Heinekin, Corona, etc never even a Guinness. I thought it was awful, but I had no real base to compare it to. After talking to the guy who picked up the meat, he said "we make beer that's not normal" and I thought the bottle I tried was definitely not normal. I asked him to bring me a six pack of various things next time. He did. I hated every single one of them. They were not normal beer. But it sparked my interest in beer seeing that things could taste different than bud/miller/coors/corona/guinness/heinekkin etc. I started stopping by on my drive home and trying things. I learned to appreciate different beers, things I didn't know were a thing etc.

They used to have a tiny tasting room with a couple worn out couches and a few bar stools and never had a wait, never saw many people in there. But it grew. And with the DarkLord festivals it grew even more. My visits to the brewery slowed because I don't want to sit and wait to get in. Their food over time grew into something absolutely incredible. Best food spot in the region easy. But I don't want to wait, so I moved on to other brewpubs like 18th street in Gary and Hammond who have grown their pub menu to (nearly) rival the food offerings at 3F.

There's too many places making fantastic beer nowadays that DarkLord has really become irrelevant. But the festival and its rarity keeps it going.

Vertical is always a good thing! We are doing that as much as we can. Kids are doing fantastic. One starting his Senior year of High School in August. The other starting 3red grade.

Yes, agree. I believe the last ticket I scored for the husband was for Group A or B. Something early. We live 20 minutes away over the border in Illinois. He waited until 6pm or so to go. Less people. More available parking. A lot of the young and dumb were gone at that point. Some of our local liquor stores sell 3F products. A few bars will have it on tap. He or I am a real big fan of most of their brews. And they do have an acquired taste. I don't tend to drink the super dark and thick malts/stouts. If and when my husband opens a bottle, it is usually for a special occasion of some sort. So it's been a while. Hoping they are aging nicely.
