Gov called for a halt to more opening. This may slow us from reaching #1 status BUT its hot and the river is cool, tubing this weekend will be packed and July 4th festivities around the bend.

I have no idea, but you could have looked that question up.

Testing has increased. But the increase in positive cases attributed to "increased testing" is not the whole story. If you're testing more people and your % positive decreases, that would suggest you are not seeing an increase in infection rate (I'm sure there's more to it, as testing is not a random sampling, but rather people who believe either due to how they feel, or who they interacted with that they are positive).... However our % positive rate stopped decreasing around Jun 14, and has been increasing since then.

If all else holds equal, including sample makeup, and you just increase your testing, you should see your % positive hold steady.

If all else holds equal, but you are testing from a pool where your sick, or contact traced people get priority and you increase your testing, your % positive should go down.

I'm sure there's more sophistication to the actual calculations.... but our trend right now is significantly upward. Nationwide our % positives on testing went from 4.4% to 6% over the course of less than 2 weeks.

I've got faith in you guys. Don't let these upstarts take your number 1 position!

Texas has risen to the #4 position today with 1,408 cases! Just a hair's breadth away from N Carolina with 1,433! But Louisiana is having a strong day too with 1,310 so far....

Fuque it. I'm taking my family down to Home Depot to mingle and then we'll head out to the river this weekend and try out our new 4 seater deluxe floatie with cupholders and built-in cooler, right after hitting the gym and getting my mani/pedi. No way those inferior loser states gonna take #1 from us. don't mess with Texas!

Better get moving! Texas has slipped to #5!

Georgia just swept in to the #3 spot with a 1,900 cases today so far!

They still are dropping. Embarrassingly we still haven't dropped them enough to be at the expected 2% fatality rate. Our numbers are showing like 5% right now. For a 1st world country.

What the hell Benja???
Texas has slipped to #6 with Tennessee coming in and taking the #5 spot. They've squeeeeaked in front of them with 1,410 cases over Texas's 1,408! You need to get out there and find 3 people with the sniffles!

Well you've done something right (?)!!
Texas moves back into the #4 spot, moving out in front of N Carolina and Tennessee with 1,751! They've got a lot left in them... but do they have enough to take the #1 spot???

And Texas takes the #3 spot from Georgia! Just edging ahead of them by a single COVID infected bar capacity! Currently standing at 1928 to Georgia's 1,900.... texas still has a long way to go to get that #2 spot from Arizona, who's standing with a cool 3,428.

True, he went for professional help months before the shooting when he was having overwhelming violent impulses including fantasies about shooting from the clock tower.

We have not heard much from the fan favorite, California, who's just been edging up the ranks to #7. California, always a late finisher and frequently taking the top spot has its eyes on Florida's 8,942.... but can they make that number?

And California makes another quick move from #7 to #5.... Top ranking is still Florida, with AZ sitting at a comfortable #2. But #3 and #4 is a true horserace, and CA is coming along the outside at #5!

California is coming up quick! Moving from #5 to #4 with 1,958 and showing the fans why it's always a contender to watch! Meanwhile, Texas is making a play for the #2 spot, moving within 1,000 of AZ, which has been holding that position for most of the day. Will AZ be able to hold them off?

AND TEXAS TAKES THE #2 SPOT! I tell ya folks, it's an exciting day at the COVID-19 racetrack. We thought AZ had a strong position, but watching this powerhouse of infectious disease just push its way forward is truly an inspiring sight.

Now, we have to ask ourselves, can TX defend its #2 spot from CA? Currently holding at 3,858 TX is not in the safest position. This is a number we all know CA can reach. Does TX have more in them? Was last weekends beach parties enough to hold off CA? Were they enough to take the #1 spot from upstart FL, who is having their best day ever?

Positions holding strong as we go into the last stretch of the day....
#1 - Florida - Due to some very creative re-opening strategies a couple weeks ago, FL has made itself into quite the contender. I tell ya, this is what determination will get you.
#2 - Texas - Able to upset AZ, who came out strong today... Texas is showing us why everything is bigger in texas....
#3 - Arizona - I don't have enough positive things to say about the positivity AZ has show regarding COVID. As the smallest of the top 5 states, AZ is a real powerhouse, with more cases/MM than any other. A real dynamo.....
#4 - California - I know Jerry... the race isn't over, and CA is known for their late race surges... They're only 500 cases away from beating AZ, and still within striking distance of Texas.
#5 - Georgia - GA is a bunch of d#cks, we don't know why we let them race with the rest of the states.... But there they are... sitting in 5th place.

As a whole it is already a recordbreaking day...
We have FL with a one day record of 8,942 cases...
And overall, with the day not even done, we have a SECOND IN A ROW record for the USA! Already at 42,253 cases with more of the day to go! I tell you, this is an amazing day. If we keep this up we'll be able to beat Brazil's 1 day record too!

It's strange.

When states like NY or MA were in trouble, and people were dying, it was considered tragic.

Now that the state names are TX and FL, people are finding humor in it. They're laying blame.

I should expect nothing less from the liberals.
And yet, I always find myself disappointed yet again.

I think they are making fun of the bagdad bob flat earther types, which deserve scorn, rather than not finding it tragic. It is tragic and preventable to a large extent but for the bagdad bobs and their followers who are part of the problem. I’m shocked just shocked this is happening even though they were told repeatedly it would if they took certain actions. WHO KNEW? Pretty much anyone really watching that were being realistic medically and not following bogus political mantras.

And some simple reading in here alone will find some interesting reads on NY and cuomo with some hailing him as great and others blaming him or making fun so there is that.

My problem with NY is how pissed they were other states were limiting access to their residents but now they are doing the same.

so maybe dark humor? you know that you don't really take this ugly irony as dancing on graves, right?

the states that are out of control now pretty much looked at us MASSholes as frightened targets of fake news and ignored the reality that we were acknowledging, experiencing and sacrificing to control...with a severe penalty to swallow with the antidote.

But we may have been the stronger breed, at least if we take inventory at this point, subject to change as this virus ain't a quitter.

sacrifice was seen as weakness and relinquishing of rights, similar to the laughter at shelter in place from the Marathon Bombings...just more chicken liberals. They seriously regret that now and have very possibly put us all in worse danger than ever due to a cavalier disregard for the long term medical stresses that are not as simple as age and percentage of deaths.

Can't speak for Benja, but the other two of three aren't even liberals. And plenty of conservatives think the states being parodied have been like uh idiot from day one. Not sure how this charge keeps this apolitical.

I have no problem with limiting visitors from "hot" states or cities, but that will be claimed as interfering with interstate commerce.

I agree. My problem is with NYs outrage previously not with their change of heart when the shoe is on the other foot.

I edited my other post for the record because I didn’t know what Denise fuel was among other things.

The politics need to stop on this ****. There really isn’t much to debate about the virus.

It is surreal watching the data, hearing the screaming chimps suggest something otherwise then watching the inevitable and predictable happen.

I got in to an argument with a flat earther once. I walked away thinking I was the dumber of the two of us because I got baited in to it. Sometimes you just need to let morons be morons and not get baited in to their stupidity. It’s hard though when you want to assume people are smarter than they are.

That’s what I said when the protests, riots, and looting started. Democrats were encouraging it and I was like “three weeks and we’re going to have a massive outbreak.” It was like arguing with flat earthers telling me ‘Rona don’t like protests, it likes birthday parties.

My county is still decent though. We got four ‘Rona patients per hospital right now. Indoor dining, gyms, nail salons, etc might open July 1. Our numbers are up ticking from the protests or birthday parties. I’m heading to Napa for the weekend. They have indoor dining with social distancing. (And freedom hating masks). A couple of my favorite wineries are having soft openings for members.

What they don’t tell you about Cali is half our cases of the Wuhan flu are in Los Angeles county.

What a whiner.

Covid-19 stopped being a tragedy when we started getting state by state mask-less protests demanding the 1st amendment right to a haircut and jeebus...

At that point it became an inevitable joke. I made a statement here that we failed at that point.

The real tragedy is that states that did actually get their sh#t under control cannot expect to reopen without being reinfected by people coming in from the out of control mouth breather states. All their work was essentially for nothing.

Now all we can do is watch and laugh and hope our own don't get infected...

And the final results are in for today!

First off it was a tremendous day for America! 47,341 infections! That's a USA record and almost reaches Brazil's one day record! Great job!

The real MVP of the night was Florida....at #1 from noon on there was no catching them they came out strong and made a statement no other state was able to come close to with 8,942 cases.

In second place.... California! Coming around the final leg and beating Texas by a single infected children's birthday party! 5,619 cases... Really putting out the effort today California.

Third place goes to steady Texas.... They were in the race the whole time but couldn't catch Florida and couldn't find of California at the end with 5,614. I heard that a dude named benja didn't sneeze on his neighbor's plate at the BBQ and ruined it for everyone.

Fourth place was AZ... They made a strong showing early today, were in the lead before noon... But never kept it up.

And fifth place are the losers in Georgia. Again... Screw them we don't like them anyway.

been hearing, at least locally, that the testing of protesters is showing very low infection rates, credit going to the fact that a far higher percentage of protesters wore masks than regular citizens in FL, TX, etc.
