ISO (please don't laugh) Gurkha Hampton Bay

Yes, I know it's a Gurkha, but I've never tried anything from them yet, and every time I bid on the Hampton Bay 5 pack, I always lose. I've heard good things about the Hampton Bay, and I know Gurkha gets a bad rap sometimes. I figure the only way to know for sure is to try them.

Not looking for a lot, just a couple. I could trade for them, if I have anything anyone might want, or a varied selection from my humidor.

I have two or three Havana blends I could send if you like. No worries, if you are set on the Hampton Bay, though.

Honestly, knowing Gurkha, they are likely the exact same cigar with different bands.

Seriously? I don't have Hampton Bay, but I can definitely send a few Gurkha blends your way. No trading necessary

I was wondering that, to be honest, if they were basically the same blends and cigars, just with different bands. What do you think about the Havanas?

Are you sure, Dan? I don't mind sending you a few of my private selection in return. My local shop doesn't carry Gurkha (I wonder if that's a bad sign) so I don't want to go spending a lot of money to get a fiver (even though I've bid on them before) just to find out I'm not a fan. I thought the same thing about Man O War, before you sent me the Damnation in the n00b box. So glad you sent me that, because I am definitely a fan!

I think I would pay you to take them.

Honestly, you could roll up newspaper and smoke it if you want to see what they taste like.

Hahahaaa!!! Oh, that's too funny! I've heard good AND bad things about them. I suppose the only way to know for sure is to smoke them.

If you like, I can send you a few cigars that I really enjoy in exchange.

I did a search and couldn't find it. I too once was curious about the whole Gurka thing. . I went so far as to do a review "live" as I smoked one. Needless to say, it didn't turn out well. Pretty sure I smoked it during a cbid poker game back in the day when we were doing that. . . Ahh, the memories. Good times in deed.

I'm sure. Some are OK and I enjoyed early on and will still smoke when sweating my azz off in the yard, but I couldn't in good conscience take good smokes for them. Give me a few days to do some searching

Ok Gurkha list:
Chairman's select - I wouldn't pay more than $2.
Rubicon - same price. But take the wrapping paper off if you're storing.
Cellars reserve- depends which but I prolly wouldn't pay more than $5 or $6
Master series ok but not worth cost imo
His Majesty's reserve ... Couldn't tell ya and if given to me I'd be grateful then give it away too
I've had too many of the others to bother recall as I hated all of them

I know they get some bad reviews online, but then you see others who love them, that's why I'm looking to try a few! In the end, it's all a matter of taste.

Taste is certainly subjective and can vary. My bigger complaint on Gurka was construction issues. I've consistently had bad luck with Gurkha's that just don't smoke correctly or fall apart. Not saying you shouldn't try them, just don't set unreasonable expectations. . .

I know the old adage is "Smoke what you like and like what you smoke"... this is one of the exceptions to that rule. NO, just no...

A lot of so called experienced cigar smokers walk into the shpo and pick up the most expensive stick in the house and then smoke it with the price tag still affixed. They know schit about enjoying a good cigar. One who catgorizes his favorite sticks based on price has a lot to learn about cigar quality vs cigar HYPE.

Like what you smoke........smoke what you like

Ron

PS:Friends don't let friends smoke Gurkha's

I agree with you Ron that bastid will fool you .It will smoke okay then the next one will unravel or just not have a draw or canoe or just not burn might even start cracking the wrapper all the way down . Speaking from experience but my FIL loves them I don't smoke them period. As Ron said smoke what you like .

Agreed. I got a lot of notes of peppery dog crap and some cinnamon dog crap with a fairly unpleasant dog crap flavor on the retrohale. Also, because "Gurkha", there are no first, second and third thirds of the cigar... Fractions were seen as microagressions.

There may be a hitchhiker or two in the box as well. Please use them to clean your palate of the dog poo. Sorry they aren't very high end or boutique, but neither am I.

I thought the Regent and the Nepalese Warrior were good but that was a while back. I'd probably would still light one up if I came across it in my tuper. Ehh.. to each their own.

Lol. Ron is not a “cool guy”... lol. But I’m sure he’s ok with that. He is a great BOTL, but he’s an azz and by no means “cool”

Dan (SOB), are you out of your darned mind?!

I got home today, and there was a package on the front steps. Not a SFR either. More like the size of a MFR.

It was just supposed to be a couple Gurkhas!! Instead, I was assaulted by a gallon size Ziploc bag with 29, yes, 29 cigars inside it.

An incredible selection of Gurkha, Man O War, Ave Maria, Obsidian, Ramon Buesos, numerous others, AND a La Aroma De Cuba EE and a Southern Draw Kudzu.

I've not had ANY of these, besides the Ramon Buesos Genesis Habano.

I can't even begin to describe my gratitude, Dan. You have gone WAY overboard in your generosity and thoughtfulness! Best believe, I have been, and will continue, to pay it forward!

Well you wanted to try Gurkha's and I had a couple around. Then while I was digging through, I came across others that can be had fairly cheaply and it made sense to add those. Then I remembered you wanted to try more Man o Wars so threw some of those in. Then I felt bad about loading you up with yard gars so including the LADC and SD made sense.

Perfectly logical. Hope there is some wheat amongst the chaff

Yup, made perfect sense. I'mma sure a jury of your peers would find you innocent.

Then again, not sure if too many CBidders are in their right minds to begin with.... Not talking

Postpone appreciation until you verify you actually like a few of them. Though I suppose at the very least I've saved you from bidding on several 5 packs to try them out. In that case, you're welcome

There was a Gurkha branded smoke years ago called the Micro Batch Liga TPB-1 that was truly great. I smoked through many boxes of them. Little lancero blended by AJ Fernandez before he got big. I miss those
