Damn, here's hoping the wind blows away from you cacman. If it gets really bad, remember most of the $#!t you own can be replaced. Get the family safe. Then the important and irreplaceable sentimental stuff. All the other crap... let it burn. It can be replaced.

Slowly clearing out a storage unit I've been renting for the past year after I downsized from my house. I'm going through it and keep asking myself "Why the hell am I paying to store this $#!+?"

For example, can anyone tell me why I have 2 crock pots? Did I steal one from some old lady at a pot-luck or something?
How many colanders does a single guy need?
My kids are teens, why do I still have a box full of sippy cups and safety eating utensils.
How did I end up with 3 camping tents and only one sleeping bag?
I have like 5 suits. I haven't worn a suit since.... I don't even remember the last time I wore a suit. Why do I own 1 suit much less 5?

It would have been cheaper to ditch most of this crap back when I moved and if I needed it later just buy it new again.

hilarious stuff...wife and I had that crossroads moment when we moved...storage or?

we donated a buncha stuff to Salvation Army...and haven't missed any of it...

except the "Sitting Duck" print that I'd hung in just about every office that I worked in...wanted to hang it in the man cave but forgot we'd donated itd'oh!

Tried to post a link but the URL was really l-o-n-g but I immediately thought of the Michael Bedard print. Quite famous and easy to Google.

Have a few boxes of computer parts I salvaged when a previous company I worked at upgraded all their office machines. I built some frankenstein desktops for people and still have a bunch of this and that's left over.

I have one last carcass that I think I'll try to turn it into a Hackintosh. Apparently, with some BIOS tweaks, some software hacks and formating the hard drive for a Mac you can get a PC to run Mac OSX.

I have copies of OS X up to 10.13 (High Sierra). See if I can get the old Dell Optiplex 760 fire up with 10.12 (Sierra) or maybe 10.10 (Yosemite but I'll call it Yo'... Semite!) and see what it's like to run a Jewish operating system.

would that be called a Deli?

Actually I think it's more like a bris. A bris is a more serious operation then running a deli...

Yeah, I had it up and running with High Sierra. I'm getting the hack from HackintoshZone. tonymacx86 is another site that I found to be a good resource. It thinks it's a 2017 Mac-mini. At first it wouldn't let me install it until I changed the date in the BIOS to the year 2017 ("this computer can't install this operating system" or something or other. High Sierra wasn't released until 2017 so probably has something to do with that)

Other bumps in the road that I'm getting now:
- Difficulty getting into the Apple Store to auto install updates, I was able to log in one time and do a force update but can't get into it again. There's postings on this problem so it's a known and fixable issue. Just need to read up on it and fix it. It's not a show stopper.

- I don't have a WiFi card installed so I'm I'm using a WiFi USB dongle. The WiFi is intermittent: it's on for a bit then disconnects itself. Have reconnect again and/or unplug and replug the dongle in. Tried 2 different dongles and different USB ports. Same issues. Based on what I've read in the fourms, it's not an uncommon thing and folks have fixed it. Tried to follow some troubleshooting tips but it looks like I screwed it up worse. I either I told it to disable network connections or turned off a network setting somewhere or something. Whatever it is, I screwed something up. Just need to read up on it and fix it.

Read some stuff about trying different Kexts that might fix it but don't think that's the problem. I think the problem resides between the computer and the chair.

- I can't boot it from the hard drive, only the USB stick that I used to do the install. This is also a known issue with known fixes. Something about my EFI files on my stick didn't transfer over to the EFI on the drive or the bootloader on the hard drive is missing some files and I need to copy them over from bootloader on the USB. Again, a known screw up and something fixable. Just need to read up on it and fix it (there's a common theme here).

Rather than screw around to try to unscrew what I screwed I just punted and I'm going with a fresh re-install. It's only takes about 35 mins. It's not super important, I'm just doing it fart around.

Kinda cool though.

It definitely is fun to tinker with. I would use a bootloader that would trick osx into booting. I never was able to run full osx vanilla. For wireless, I would try whatever USB dongles you have. There are certain wireless chips that are native to osx and work plug and play. I got lucky and had one that worked.

And yes, lots of reading. Have fun!

You worked for schools and colleges that didn't give you a gun. You were unarmed. You were the definition of a sitting duck.

I'm 98.2% positive if your career in law enforcement was actually IN law enforcement... your outlook on life may be much different than it is. A beat cop and a street cop... ain't the same thing as a school resource officer.

No offense intended, friend. Your job was and is important. But you aren't protecting children or college students from a damn thing if you ain't strapped. You're a gelded security guard.

Yeah the two that I have readily available worked on and off and appear to be natively supported. They wouldn't work after a reboot though and I'd have to unplug and plug it in for it to be recognized. One post in a forum on the Hackintosh sites mentioned that something in the boot sequence probably preempted something else and the machine doesn't notice the dongle until you unplug and replug it in. They'd also drop out and I'd have to tell it to reconnect. I tried to walk through a fix that that was posted but I think I disabled the networking part all together. Hoping a fresh install will get me back to square one.

Luckily the random PCI graphics card I had kicking around has native support in OSX so I didn't have to mess with that. Don't really need the card but since I had one in the box of parts, I put it in.

Had tacos at the inlaws. Grilled flank steak and tons of grilled veggies from the garden. Picked a couple habaneros and diced em up for my tacos. Some lingering discomfort in my belly. Was delicious though.

Bashed my ankle on something a few days ago but didn't think anything about it...

Power went out about an hour ago, but only for 20 minutes...

But when I got out of bed to check what had happened, I stepped on my ankle oddly and upon further inspection, believe I may have damaged the retained hardware I've got in there... screw #3 hurts so bad I can't touch it...

I've tweaked it really bad a couple times and it kinda adjusted itself over time but this one feels nasty...

I gots one of thoes stripped screw extractor kits.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ontel-Speed-Out-Speed-Out-Titanium-Screw-Extractor-4-Piece-1000367/303667297

I've used it to take out some #2 Phillips heads and it has one that's supposed to work on #3. If you can't find one at your local hardware store, I can send you the one I have. Just hit me up.

nah... it'd have to get bad for that...

my ankle is a masterpiece... when i showed up at the hospital there was nothing but chunks of bone floating around... my surgeon - who's operated on numerous Olympic athletes - spent many, many hours slowly rebuilding it.... 7 screws, a steel plate, and 2 pins later, and it's not as good as new, but still miraculously good...

When I revisited that surgeons some 8 years after the initial operation, he x-rayed it and spent quite a while marveling at how well he had done lol... even he was surprised he was able to make an ankle out of what he had to work with...

Swelling is down this morning but still hurts... if it's still swelling up just from walking on it by Monday, that'll warrant a call....

I'll chime in on the ankle thing but it's child's play compared to opel.

Rewind to college beer league softball.

-Sliding into 2nd base, hit toes first.
- Hear a snap and look to see the right foot pointing in an unnatural angle.
- Hobble off the field, drink more beers, cheer on team from the bench.
- Go to ER after the game.
- Based on my attire and injury, Dr. says "Let me guess, snapped it sliding into base right?" (guess they've seen something like this before)
- X-ray reveals a spiral fracture. Cast it up and book and appt to see an ortho Dr..
- Dr. Appt with ortho, new x-ray, new cast.
- Dr. says no hardware needed but expect premature arthritis and possible bouts with tendonitis as I get older.
- Dr. was right.
- Doesn't hurt for daily use but frequent dull aching pain from the ankle. If I step or twist twist it wrong, it lets me know.

Same here. Sliding into home for my first ever in the park home run. Also isn't a comparison to pulverization, but more a study on the stubbornness/stupidity of the early 20s male brain.
- In my defense a) it cracked a couple bones so no odd angle and b) it was the first bone I'd broken that wasn't a nose. So Dr. Beach self diagnosed as sprain.
- played the last two innings
- submerged in ice water throughout the evening to keep swelling down
- wrapped really tightly in an Ace bandage to keep swelling down during work
- repeated process for three days before boss saw me rewrapping my black, blue, and purple foot at lunch and said I can't come back until cleared by doctor. Looks at me like I'm an idiot
- doctor took one look and said broken. Looks at me like I'm an idiot
- having learned my lesson about medical attention, 8 weeks later made the cast removal the theme of a party back at school involving lots of beer and whatever tools we could scrounge up. Not as easy as I thought but went better than I deserved

We've been unable to itemize the last couple of years, but getting close again.

I don’t claim to be a jack of all trades or renaissance man like danm but I did fix a problem yesterday. I noticed my engine was running a little rough and hard after yesterday’s hike. A few cold ones and a PLPC on the front porch and I am idling much better now.

Yeah, I self diagnosed a separated shoulder in high school. Wrestling injury. Guy did an rather aggressive arm bar to the point where I caught a glimpse of the back of my right hand over my left shoulder. Not dislocated nor separated so technically I was right and I figured it's fine.

Tried to hide it from the coach and the parents. Couldn't sleep on it or raise my arm above my chest without serious pain.
Next day coach pulled me aside and asked what was up.
He called in the school sports nurse.
She tapped protruding bump was on my collar bone/shoulder area: "Does it hurt when I do that?"
As I sharply winced and retracted away... the answer was clear and the nurse and coach pulled me out for the season.
Went to hospital for X-ray and stuff.
Partial fracture of my collar bone and a ligament or something was pulling away taking some bone chips with it.

My parents weren't too happy with me. They got over it though.
