This thread over four years could get a few posts. Here’s a gem.

“Baby Bonds.”

First proposed in NJ by their governor last year, $1000 gets deposited per child. Families making less than 133k per year qualifies.

$1000
Bond rate at 1.35%
$1,270 after 18 years.

Yes, great idea, because there should be financial inducements to have children. Especially if you are poor, as having children is inexpensive.

80 million dollars a year cost to the NJ budget.

Original article below, and heard on the Marketplace podcast last night.

Watch https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/nj-governor-proposes-dollar1000-baby-bond-for-children-to-close-wealth-gap/ar-BB18oBRG for this gem to go nationwide.

I seem to remember Cash for Clunkers. Paying people for retiring old cars that they would do on their own without the Feds involvement.

They were just trying to build loyal voters... argument for why dems and cons should trade positions on abortion.

We literally already have this on a federal level... it's a tax rebate, it's usually $2k/ child, and anyone dumb enough to think this entices people into having more kids should have a hole drilled in their head to drain the stupid...

This isn't meant to target the population of responsible adults, it's targeting those who pump out kids to keep the welfare money flowing in. These people have no intent on supporting their kids, that's what the government and welfare is for.

Well that was kinda my eventual point... if you're doing babies for money, the money is in food stamps and welfare checks... thousand dollar bonds aren't doing a thing...

I sort of think most babies are made because it feels good and has little to do with politics.

Why are we blaming people for having babies? It's not their fault that the stork dropped the little baztrds off....
