CANCUN—Ted Cruz is being heralded as a hero after he traveled to Cancun in the middle of the worst energy crisis in recent memory in order to lasso the sun and bring it back to Texas.

The media quickly condemned Cruz for his trip but apologized when they realized he was actually saving the state by bringing the sun back for them.

"Don't worry, y'all -- Ted is comin' back, and the sun's comin' with him!" Cruz cried as he rode along a beautiful Cancun beach, spooling up his lasso to catch the sun. "Yeeeeehaw!" After a few unsuccessful attempts, Cruz remained undeterred, riding back and forth across the beach, trying to catch the sunlight.

"He's a tricky lil' rascal, boy howdy!" Cruz said. "But we'll get 'em, just you watch! Darn' tootin'!"

He was also attempting to bottle the water and bring it back to the Texans who have had no water for days, but advisers warned him that drinking the Mexican water would probably just make matters worse.

Cruz, while reported to be brilliant (Alan Dershowitz), is an idiot. First, for leaving Texas and second, for lying about whether he was going on vacation with his family.

NO.... even if he took his family there to get them away from the cold...especially if he made a stop at the Senate bldg and even if he lied about going to the DC to get help for Texans...

he woulda earned some points in TX for sure, even if he was just responding to his nagging wife and kids to get them outta his cold house...but she didn't want to go there...it's pretty cold there in DC too, and no sunny beaches...

he shoulda just put her and the kids on a plane and buckled up his overcoat for some photo ops meeting and greeting Texans in food/water lines, looking like a hero instead of a mousey hypocrite

seems politicians from both parties are not immune from doing stupid selfish self-serving stuff when an emergency happens...

I heard you have been permanently banned from getting a free gubermint phone, but you can still get the Ted Cruz phone at a 40% discount. It makes Cancun reservations automatically during weather emergencies. The book of excuses for going on vacation at the wrong time is coming out soon.

how about; stay home and help out in the state that elected him, and try to pretend he cares about his voters in dire circumstances...plenty of opportunities in Texas to volunteer at food and water donation sites...maybe show up at a failed power plant to buck up the workers trying to bring it back on-line...basic politician stuff to show he's worthy of being re-elected...but maybe he knows the Texan voters don't care if he doesn't care...

even Trump was able to muster some compassion during emergencies, like going to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria ripped through

American voters in other states won't forget if he runs for POTUS

Well delta, there's the offsetting effect of needing additional security etc when a pol shows up that take resources that are better left attending to the problem at hand. He can do virtual rah rah speeches from anywhere on the planet.

Cruz didn't have security around when he went to the airport with his family nor when got back, looking remorseful...if he needed protection, that woulda been the time...

I strongly don't like Cruz as a person or a Senator.
He corrected his mistake in optics and he returned ASAP. No harm. No big deal. That could have been the end of it all.
However, he had to go ahead and change his story and lie about it. I would expect no less from him. I am not surprised.
But in the end, the entire matter has become much ado about nothing.

(Too bad for Cruz. The Ritz Carlton in Cancun is a nice place to hang out for a few days.)

hah...I almost posted my thoughts about those cheapazz paper towels he tossed around and the Bounty brand was the one that came to mind...

Trump wouldn't have been able to toss real paper towel rolls around as far as those lightweight ones...he wouldna been able to get his little hands around a Bounty roll...

It's nice that we let them out to play for recess imo. Makes it easier to get them to go down for their nap after milk and cookies.
