When I was 15 I moved to this little town and one of the only places of business they had was a thrift store... I paid $15 for a 3 piece light tan corduroy suit and fifty cents for a horrific green cat bank that had a $5 bill inside it... that suit changed my life...

They are just places of "CHEAP OPPORTUNITY" to educated people ....like the CBID community here, who have general and or very specific knowledge about various items that are donated .....
by unknowing idjits just wanting to clean out houses or getting rid of clutter because they are pressed for time or getting bothered by a spouse or family member with an upcoming deadline...or they have physical inabilities to actually lift anything and just pay "young hunks who take junk" fly by night hucksters who rob them blind and laugh the whole way to the bank...

I have always said...."I LOVE STUPID PEOPLE"
ESPECIALLY the dumbo's who price the items in the backrooms of thrift stores....

I can only imagine if what I am finding for real out in my travels is only the tip of the $$$$ valuable iceberg that gets donated to the these thrift stores??

I think some stores have an entire "closed RACKET" GOING ON AT SOME LEVEL ? with the store manager at the peak...it would be very easy to pull out expensive & valuable donations ( if you know what to look for) and never have them reach the store floor...then you sell them out of your garage to a few select dealers who are in on it too...
It's a win ....win for the people doing it...

I think it is harder to do now than back in the 1970-2010's
Before all the internet sites and thrift store silent auctions plus frontstore glass showcases for antiques that many bigger chains have today...

My grandparents had been into antiques since the early 60’s, had shpos multiple times and had stall rentals at the local antique mall. Grandma went so far as to get certified as an appraiser for Mexican silver jewelry and for gems (precious and semi-precious).

They got a painting at an estate sale for under a Benjamin that’s ugly as **** but valued at $100k. They were also smart about buying when things weren’t popular (like original Japanese art and Beatles lunchboxes).

Uhhh I do that already, probably been doing that for the last several years. Can I get an appraisal on life expectancy? I’m thinking I have maybe a good six years I’ll be 40.
