Let's talk about underfermented tobacco.

OK, so over the past few years, I've noticed a serious uptick in ammonia/chemical aftertaste in a lot of cigars around the halfway point or slightly after. It's gotten so bad, in fact, that I've added a few very beloved cigar makers to my 'do not buy' list.

It's not my humidors, because I keep my sh*t at 62-65%.

It's not my palate, because I still smoke plenty of cigars and I don't get this with all of them.

It's not an aging issue. I recently tossed the remnants of a box of Tatuaje that I bought in 2014. And a box of Herrera Esteli that I bought in 2018. Plus, most of my cigars are stored nekkid.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Hurricanes destroyed some crops, bruh. They're forcing stuff to market before it's ready.

That's my theory.

I’d give anything for a hit of ammonia from one of my smokes.
I haven’t experienced that in a long time...

Ya gots the COVID? Can't believe ammonia has anything to do with it in properly stored aged stock but I do occasionally get a chemical/metallic note with certain smokes.

I can relate and reciprocate .

I just recently purchased a Rocky Patel Edge Maduro Toro at a local B&M and stoked and smoked in their lounge.

It was strong ammonia.

Since I'm a cheap arse prick, I forced myself to smoke half before I smashed it out and gave up.

My understand is this..

While frementing, the pile of tobacco has to be turned over per rotation constantly to let the chemicals caused by the process to dissipate into the air.

If they get lazy and it's not turned over enough, the chems get trapped and give your gar an ammonia taste..

I googled it after trying to smoke the RP
