Last day away from the office.
8.7 on the bike this morning.
Six hours of sleep with only a brief middle morning interruption. Best in quality and duration in the last ten days.
Good feeling.

Two eggs, over medium, two sausages, two slices of toast, two coffees.

The Noah’s Ark Breakfast only goes off theme only with an undetermined amount of hash browns. Maybe 2 ounces of hash browns.

It’s Robert’s fault. He was ready for the old one to finish. I simply helped him with his PTSD.

If you just get pedal clips and still ride with the same shoes, you will notice an awesome difference in your ability to pedal in circles. Whit your foot in the cage, you will be able to work on the muscles that involved in pulling the pedal up to 12 o'clock. You will be able to perfect your cadence and exercise some of the muscles you aren't using! Try it, you will love it!

Got rained on four times today... Grrrr.

WTF, this is Arizona.

And, yes, I do own an umbrella, but it was in the car. Which is where I got wet running to. Four times.

Also, +2 on doing nothing, Danm.

Hmmm. Can picture myself coming to a stop, not getting my toes out of the cage and toppling over.

Happened to me on a motorcycle once and I wasn’t using toe clips.

After four proposals we signed a contract today to redo the wife's bath from tub to walk-in shower. Had to write a check for 50% up front and now waiting 6-8 weeks for the destruction/construction to get under way.

That happens to most everyone soon or later. I was with a group when we came to a stop light and I forgot to reach down and loosen one toe clip. The fall was like in slow motion as I lay on the ground like an overturned turtle with everyone looking down at me.Anxious

I do not own an umbrella.

It rarely rains here, and even when it does... I don't melt.

When I lived in the Philippines... I had a giant umbrella... and still got wet.

I own several umbrellas. But I've only ever bought one, and I don't know what happened to that one. Bought it at a Walmart in Gainesville Florida in 2013.

Surprise night off from work so I lit the grill again.

Made some flatbreads. Topped em with random chit from the fridge. Artichokes, anchovies, habaneros, garlic, onion, herbs n spices, mozzarella, goat cheese, tomato basil pesto, giardinera, maybe something else.

Food for some of my 6 day workweek.

My truck was probably less than yours tho. 7k on trade, truck started at 33k, had a rubberband wad of cash from the gun safe coffee can too. Walked out for a hair over 20 I think. I wanted to roll off under 20 but they wouldn't budge. Markets too strong. Still think I did ok.

Truck payment is $350/mo.

6 quotes later, the bargain companies are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the big names.

Under $200mo are the big boys. Pushing 4-500/mo are the ones with billboards in the hood.

Work called me to ask if they should accept an admission. Didn't call the director, Didn't call the unit manager. Didn't call the unit manager's assistant. Didn't call the assistants assistant. They called me...

I'm fuzzing drunk and could still cite the policies that require transfer. Then the HOSPITAL SUPERVISOR calls me about this. I'm not on call. I'm not at work. I'm not in management for this exact reason. I'm not getting paid for my advice.

Told them all to fvck off. Theres procedures to follow and a chain of command. I'm not part of that even though my name's on a lot of the policy/procedure documents. I write them but I'm not management. When I'm not there I'm not dealing with anything that's happening there.

COVID scare today.

Our daughter and her two young girls came over as usual this morning. Youngest granddaughter, Ashley, was coughing and had a runny nose so my wife made them go home and find a place to have her tested. She just started pre-school this month and masks are optional so who knows if she caught something from another kid. They went to a hospital to get tested and just got the call a few minutes ago that it was negative.

Whew!

E-bike conversion update.

- Some of the screws and bolts were corroded and slightly frozen so WD-40 was needed. Bent a bolt or two. I'll buy some replacement but the old ones will work for now.
- Some of the bolts that I needed to unscrew and rescrew on the bike (mostly Allen head cap screws) were a mix of SAE here and metric. Franking - pick a unit and go universal, the mix is pissing me off. Almost stripped out a few cap head which would have really sucked.

- Front wheel motor installed (easy, just take of the old one, put on the new one). Future concern is the tube in the motor wheel has an elongated stem. Kinda like frank. So if I get a flat on it, it looks like I'll need and extended stem.

- Handle bar breaks installed. When you hit the brakes it cuts out the power to the motor. Good to go there (I hope).

- Battery pack installed. This was kind of a bitch. I went 3rd party on the battery pack. Had high reviews so I to upgrade the battery pack (more juice for the same price). The bike I have has a rear shock that isolates the top tube and seat tube from rear triangle. The larger battery pack took up real estate that I didn't account for. In my defense, I was only off by fractions of an inch but was able to get it in there. ("That's what she said.").

- Due to the 3rd party battery, the connections are a bit different then the one's coming from motor and stuff so had cut off the ends of the wires. I'll need to replace the crimp on electrical connectors (another unanticipated issue).

- Gotta put on the the pedal assist thingy/sensor. Which will require me to pop off the pedal crank arm on one side. It's supposed to sense your peddling and turn up/down the motor so you go full motor or combo of pedal anb motor. Kinda like a hybrid car, save on battery power and allow you to pedal at the same time.

- After all that, make the electrical connections, bundle up and zip tie the strangling wires.

Been Franking with it on and off the the past 3 days. Kinda thinking of taking it to the local bike shop and asking them if they want to finish it up. I don't have real working grease monkey space that I can utilize at will anymore. Ihe local mom and pop bike store could probably use the business

Dan,

What is holding you back from the Travel Nurse angle? Probably don’t love being away from your boy and the comforts of home, but sure does check a lot of boxes.

Three times the money, to get you out from under the bills.
Exposure to different parts of the country, especially as winter approaches and the food porn you could enjoy.
Nobody at the other hospitals will expect you to make administrative decisions as an individual contributor.
The Six Footer is forced to do the one job she claims to have- taking care of the boy.
Nobody to btchch at you on your down time about the food you cook, the work you do and don’t.

You could also employ some retired, cbid lover guys to descend on the places the six footer hangs out in and get her to cheat on you.

If you come home and she can’t walk, you’ll get able to say- “So, you met Frank?”

I tried to do it when I had a camper. Guy I worked with when I first started did/does it and we crossed paths. He lives in his camper for the 3 month contracts. The housing stipend more than covers the campsite. He still does it, but takes 2 3mo contracts per year now.

I talked to a couple recruiters, I talked to several travelers. I'm not a friendly person, so new things like that aren't easy for me but they're offering 2-3x the pay, and insurance, and living stipend. I was ready to go, then I told the wife. I even offered to take them along. (This was before the boy was in school)

Wife said if I did she'd leave and make sure she got any of the extra money I'd make traveling.

That was several years ago. I ended up doing local "travel" dialysis nurse. I went to 9 hospitals in the area for inpatient dialysis runs. They paid a lot more, no home base to really get additional bullchit added to my plate. But ultimately the on-call killed me.
