Also watch the movie: The Shack.

If you watch it, be prepared to shed some tears. Kind of a powerful movie.

They can absolutely NOT void your warranty for work you do yourself or at another shop. That is complete and total BS. Keep your receipts.

I have my wife's MB serviced at Autohaus Frankfurt. Owner's a German car specialist (BMW, Audi, MB) and a lot less expensive than the dealer. He has all my maintenance records so if they ever tried to pull that sh*t... they would lose, because I can prove the maintenance was done.

I have the 1500. Do my own oil changes.

With my luck, I'm not looking to gamble. They told me it needed to come in for all service intervals to preserve the CPO warranty. I know you're right, and I could keep records and receipts and fight them but I've already wasted several hours fighting FCA over that blown coolant hose. They wanted to argue that I haven't followed the maintenance schedule. I said I haven't owned it long enough to take it in. They asked for oil change records... for a blown coolant line ... that they declined to cover.

I do not enjoy arguing with people. And I really hate doing it for stuff like this, so I'll just pay more to have it done their way and maybe I won't have to spend hours on the phone when the engine blows.

The other side of that coin, though, is that it is 9PM and I am working, instead of sitting out back enjoying a fine CAO Brazilia.

Hope you get some sleep!

I miss working for myself. Was a 1099 employee for many years before I finished college. Sure I had no insurance or 401k and often had to work several hours at home for administrative bullchit but I also didn't have to go in on my days off for meetings. Ive logged 20+ hours this year for mandatory meetings and education. On my days off.

My side job doesn't have mandatory meetings. We have emails. Might do a conference call before big events but if you miss it, the summary is in an email.

With that mindset, I give you five years until you have a complete physical, psychological, and or financial breakdown.

And that is just taking your mindset into account for your trucks and wife.

Just sayin’.

Good Tuesday Morning! It's off to the range today. I'm going to shoot at 200 yards and test out some bag rests I refilled with lightweight plastic pellets. My back said, "F' this!", to carrying regular sandbags.

We could use a hurricane’s worth of rain up here. Maybe we can get some in October.

Today is the day to see how much of South Lake Tahoe get swallowed by the forest fire.

Lake Tahoe was completely evacuated yesterday. The fire burned over the mountain range and into the basin last night. It is in fringe urban areas now. A northern turn threatens 30k homes. The easternmost portion is heading for Nevada and won’t be stopped until it leaves the mountains once it gets to Nevada.

e flew from Jakarta to Tahoe to empty a ank safety box, but the bank closed down
Today is the day to see how much of South Lake Tahoe get swallowed by the forest fire.

My cousin, who lives in Jakarta, owns a mostly wood vacation mansion and several other properties in South Lake Tahoe. While emergently in the air from Jakarta to Tahoe to get the contents of a safety deposit box, which includes his real property insurance policies and other valuable stuff, his bank branch evacuated and he couldn't get to his safety box.

Another branch of his bank told him nothing is is going to happen to his security box because it was built to withstand this type of fire and that there is like five feet of concrete surrounding it. Apparently, northing in the vault was affected when his branch burned down in a raging fire about 10 years ago.

He doesn't care what happens to the properties he owns- because they are both fully insured and presently valued at the top of the market. (win-win?)

But worst of all, first responders were not allowed him to get to his house safe and then kept the rabbi at his synagogue from going back in to take the torahs out. So, my cousin took a back road around the road blocks and is at the police station- pleading his case for just enough time to get the torahs out.

And, he was planning to permanently return with his family in October, but there is probably no chance of that anymore.

^ I hope the Rabbi succeeds and everyone is safe. Would be a shame to lose the torahs, but more of a shame to lose someone trying.

Finally made the cheesesteaks I started on a few days ago. Yesterday I got as far as lighting the grill but then fell asleep on the couch.

Wasn't looking to make em, but was at the store and they had a bunch of sell by today beef on sale. Was tempted by the ribeyes for cheesesteaks but even on clearance they were $8/lb. They had "English roast" a cut I'm not familiar with but looked well marbled and I thought it would be a good substitute. It was.

Meijers had one sell by today whole brisket for $4/lb. I was tempted but the freezer is packed, I had to pass.

Inlaws gave me a gift certificate to the butcher by me, I think I'm gonna get me a center cut pork belly. Never made it before but I think it would be in my wheelhouse.

I do pork belly burnt ends in about 4 hours.

Cube the pork belly 2" cubes. Liberally coat with your favorite rub. Put on high smoke (275 degrees) for 2 hours. Remove from smoke, toss cubes in your favorite bbq sauce and put in an aluminum pan with a stick of butter... cover with foil and back on the smoker, covered, to simmer for an hour.

Take them out of the pan and back on the smoker for an hour to crisp up.

You're welcome.

Heading to the SF Giants game tonight. Not sure who is pitching. Two vaccinated players are out with ‘Rona and another with symptoms but testing negative.

I blame the Dodgers and TeeDubya for this lame-ass vaccine.

Left Minn in 73 degrees and arrived in Phoenix in 100. One of the things we noticed everywhere we went was all the buildings, hotels and AirB&B, etc keep the temps way too cool for our liking. I guess it's the thicker blood thing. I once read that in 1900 it was estimated that there were only about 5500 full time residents in Arizona. I'm pretty sure that iffn it wasn't for AC that would still be the correct number.

San Francisco is known for pitchers and catchers on the same team.

They’ll test positive for something.

That sounds perfect.

Skin on or off? I used to be able to get rind-on bacon from the butcher and loved it, wonder if I can get belly with rind on.

No skin. I usually get the Farmer John pork belly from Costco. Sam's has it sometimes, but not as often.

The Asian market by me has the skin on... that's only good if you're going to deep fry it, IMO. The Filipinos call that Lechon kawali... and it's freakin' delicious.

I'm a nut for good pork rinds. Not the airy light stuff you normally get in the grocery store, but the stuff that still has a fat layer attached to the hard fried skin that oozes porky goodness along with the extremely hard crunch. Best ones I've ever had were from a vendor at a motorcycle show in Indianapolis. That was many years ago and I still keep trying to find some as good as that. Did find some "homemade" ones at a gas station in backwoods Florida that were sold in a ziploc bag that were pretty damn close, but they were seasoned not just salted so it lost that piggy flavor.

Maybe I'll get a couple bellies and do different styles. I'm stuffed to the gills with food right now and that still sounds delicious.
