Soooooooo....

Two days ago??? I'm mowing the fronT yaRD and I have maybe: 8 more passes left to finish...all of a sudden I get swarmed by a bunch of yellow jackets stinging me relentlessly...the little bastids went up my left blue jeans pant leg and stung the f**k out of my calf, ankle and foot...

I run away with the mower but ditch it at the gate ..bees all over my left pants leg still ..my new puppy (14 months) is in the backyard and runs towards me to play...

Those f**kin" YJ's start attacking him too!! He gets pissed, I'm really pissed tearing off my pants at the back slide glass door...bees are flying out of my pants too...get inside and 3 it the bees follow me in, 2 still on the pup...I smack the bees on him while I get stung again ...all in all the dog got 3 stings and I was around 7-8?

Go to kitchen and pop two benedryl and give one to the pup...he and I are ok now..
Leg puffs up and hurts for 2 days.

Tried to buy wasp and hornet spray that shoots 25 feet...couldn't find any at 3 different stores but Weis foods wanted $8.59 a can ..screw that noise...

Ollie's sells that crap for $2.49 a can...
Finally went to Target and got 2 of them/RAID @ $4.29 each...

WENT OUT AFTER DARK, 30 OF THOSE PRICKS WERE AT THE NEST HOLE TOP ALL AROUND THE RIM...FLASHLIGHT BLINDED THEM and I unloaded that entire can on the hole top for 60 seconds? (From about 15 feet away)Non stop...about 100 crawled up but couldn't fly out...

Ran back inside...

I know they can be beneficial but the nest is in a very bad well used spot...
I usually don't mess with any bees due to pollination and pest insect control that YJ's actually help with...any other area I would have left them alone and just avoided it till winter ..

Yellow jackets suck ass. Time for war.

They don't give a chit about wasp spray either in my experience. Sure you'll knock em down but they be back soon. Especially this time of year. Spray works better in the spring/summer. When the days get shorter, you need to go hard. They do, and you gotta match their aggression. This is the worst time of year to encounter their nests. Or best, if you know where they're at. They looking to setup for hibernation and want safety so they attack quickly, often, and repeatedly. Fuggem.

They go dormant at night. Do not try to fvck with them while there's natural light. You will lose. Get yourself a headlamp if you don't already. Keep your hands free. Tactical advantages.

You need fire. If you found the nest hole, fire is the answer. Used motor oil, kerosene/diesel fuel and a blowtorch. Gasoline and a match works too, but it's too volatile, don't want you blowing your azz up. But use what you got be aware of the risks.

You need to destroy the nest. Spray doesn't do it all. If fire ain't your forte, go out at night and dig it up, smash it mash it spread that chit like butter on toast on the driveway or sidewalk or a rock or board. Kill the parents kill the children kill the larvae and the eggs. Wipe them out.

Or don't. They'll be back. I do this at least every 2 years.

Also, build some wasp traps. In the late summer and fall they're looking for sugar and get super aggressive. In the spring they're looking for proteins and tend to look for carrion. Summertime they're not as aggressive with an abundance of food but as it rolls down them fvcks want it all and kill anything that gets in their way.Them fuggers kill hummingbirds to take over their feeders. Take soda pop bottles 20oz, 1L, 2L don't matter. Cut the top off where the shoulder tapers in. Invert the top into the bottom, wrap a bit of tape around to seal it up. Put some jelly or fruit or straight up sugar in there and some water to bring the volume about 1-2" from the neck. I usually use jelly/jam but rotting fruit mashed up works too - the ones hanging in the woods I use mulberries scraped off the ground and hang em from trees with baling wire so the raccoons can't pull em apart. Then add some vinegar. Wasps don't give a fvck about vinegar but honeybees will avoid it. Thems friends, don't wanna murder them. Finally a bit of dish soap. Set em out everywhere. I hang one under each hummingbird feeder, have a bunch on the deck railing, and several around the chicken pen.

They are very hard to kill completely. I had a nest 2 years ago that I wanted to do in, so I bought some powder to dust them off with (about $ 50). Got the duster out one day and checked out the nest. There was a good size hole in the lawn and no yellow jackets around. I'm guessing a bear or some other wild critter took care of them. They only have one entrance/exit from the ground so blocking that with a clear glass vase can also do a job on them- unless the vase falls over or can be dug under. Miserable critters with no redeeming value whatsoever.

I’ve had good luck with the spray here but it sounds like you have some mutant yEllOw jaCketS. You should get a couple of these:

Damn.

Dragons breath shells used to be $2-3/per.

I've lit some bonfires with em. Never a hornet nest.

Pour gas in hole/holes and light. Then they will be flaming🔥 yellow jackets, stand back and enjoy the show. Done this alot it really works.
You'll have a flaming 🔥 yard for about 15/30 min, quick kill, wifey didn't like it much but it got the job done. Let the gas soak in.

We usually have whited tailed hornets around - never been stung even when inadvertent bumping into one of their nests. Haven't seen any this year. I always rescue any bumble bees that happen to fall into water - they seem grateful and I've never been stung. One way to alleviate a sting is to rub a paste of neat tenderizer and water on the sting location.

Thanks for all the advice and info!!!

Went outside around 1 pm and NO YELLOW JACKETS ALIVE...

I WILL JAM ABOUT 2-3 RIVER PEBBLES IN THE HOLE AND COVER THAT WITH A SHOVEL FULL OF DIRT...( This was at my girlfriends house)

NOW FOR THE Y.J. NEST AT MY HUT...
IN between the garage door concrete pad and the macadam driveway...
Several holes after settling all along that 8ft garage door...
Gotta go back at night...tried today but there were literally 12 on the hole top and 15-35 flying in and out every 60 seconds...no way in hell am I messing with those pricks in daylight...

I weed Wacked a YJ nest hole about 3-4 years ago in the back yard and got stung 12-15 times...man...that was a real scary event...

Same thing at my cabin in 2013-14 ( those were prolly FBI-SSG TRAINED Y.J.'s..)...weed Wacked an above ground nest and was stung 18-20 times...that was the worst bee event I ever had...was hurting for days after that..stings on top of stings , my hand was twice it's normal size almost for two days...always had benedryl on hand for all of these attacks...

Just spit on some dirt, it will draw the stinger out plus the poison out too, cheap but effective. I should know cause I'm allergic to them.

I vividly remember coming across a hole in the ground in a field across the street from my grandmothers house. Was prolly 5 or 6 years old.

I watched it for a while as some bees or hornets whatever came and went on a pretty frequent basis. Then I threw a few rocks at the hole. Didn't get much of a response. The buzzers kept coming and going. Then I decided to jam a rock to plug up the hole. They didn't like that. I Franking got tagged about a dozen times from head to toe while running the half a block back to grandmas house (they can fly faster than a 5 year old can run).

Good thing I'm not allergic to bee sings. I got some ice cream though. Prolly could have gotten ice cream without the hornet stings but then I wouldn't have a little story to share with ya'll.

Remove the trauma of the hornets and it would boil down to...

One day, at grandma's house when I was 5, she gave me some ice cream...
Pretty boring story and it prolly wouldn't even have logged into my memory banks.

Moral of the story: don't throw rocks at the doors of underground hornet nests and some of the longest lasting memories usually include doing something stupid.
