I think we have authoritarians here that love gubment more than the free market. They think the primary function of gubment is to conceive more ways to fleece the private sector, extract tribute, and to disincentivize competition. They hate corporations shopping around for the best deal just like they hate us shopping around for the best deal. They like their government-run monopolies and cartels as a means to that end.
And it's just more of the same "tax the rich" bumper-sticker economics that promises to pay for D.C.'s spending spree, but never will.
