55 headed to 79.

Had a great day fishing yesterday. My buddy caught a personal best lingcod. I caught 4 of them, but had to throw 2 back because they were under 22". Caught some big red rockfish, too. Well, he did... I caught some but they were smaller. Got some ocean whitefish and a blue rockfish, which was a fattie.

Drank a few beers... smoked a few cigars. We call those trips "liquid therapy". On the water, catching fish, drinking beers... very therapeutic.

Thanks for the idea. Like the concept. She has 100+ K-Cups to use. She's an odd duck. Doesn't like the "inconvenience" of regular brewed coffee.

You know what is real inconvenient? NOT having coffee.

Hey guys, what's up?

Laying in bed with a stomach bug for the last few days. Lost four pounds as a result. It's all "water weight" and while I am still trying to lose weight, this is definitely not the way to do it.

So, I guess I'll be watching football all day.

Mom, pop, brother, sister are local (Green Bay or within a 45 min away from there). Nieces, nephews are scattered around regionally in the area but some are in the Twin Cities.

Vegas then a hop to Hawaii sounds enticing. No disrespect but I'd rather chill out for a week and hang out with the family in Cheeseland.

No disrespect taken. Home is where the heart is.

True!

We bought one of these for traveling, Presto MyJo, it uses K-Cups, just add hot water and a push down the plunger.

I forget who turned me onto the aeropress. Prolly the Gerbs... but that thing is awesome.

I don't really want coffee any other way, now.

I'm not a coffee snob. As long as it hot, black and with a teaspoon of sugar. Maybe do honey or molasses instead of sugar if feel like being a rebel.

Have a drip Mr. Coffee thingy to make a pot o coffee and a Kureg K cup single shot thingy. It takes about the same time to make a pot of coffee than it does with the K cup thingy. With that said, I haven't actually timed it. Preparation time and brew time start to finish for a full pot - maybe like 5 minutes. Brew time for a K cup thingy start to finish - maybe like one minute. I think it all evens out in the long run in time/cup.

Plus, the coffee grounds and paper filters are composable if you do composting for your garden. K-Cups aren't. They use up landfill space and will be around for the next 1,000 yrs or more... not to mention the threat to wildlife... they might get stuck on the nose of a skunk or something.

It pains me to buy K cups since they are about 10x the price of bulk coffee. I have one of those reusable K cup thingies to add my own bulk coffee but it tends to get plugged especially if I'm using the Café Bustelo espresso grounds. Maybe I'm over filling it and the fine grind plugs up the filter. I'm also a fan of Chock Full O'nuts and 8 O'clock coffee.

One thing I've been seeing that has picked up in sales at my local Wally World (based on the purchasing order/receiving lists) is called "Death Wish Coffee." Their marketing says it's the world's strongest coffee, organic, blah, blah, blah... the packaging with the skull and cross bones is intimidating. I'd like to try it so see what the hub bub is all about, but at around $20/lb I'm not sure it's worth it. Maybe case of it will be "damaged" when we unload a truck and I can grab a pound after we write it off as damaged claims.

What's the difference between an aeropress vs. french press?

Never used a French press, so I can't say for sure.

The aeropress is basically a tube with a plunger. Small, round paper filter at the bottom (incredibly cheap, 600 for $10), scoop or two of coffee... fill tube with hot water, use plunger to press it into your cup.

It's strong if you use a scoop and a half like I do, not bitter at all, and tastes amazing with a dash of International Delight Cold Stone sweet cream.

Conversely, never used the aero, but with the French you stir the grounds with hot water, let it sit for a few mins depending on strength preference, then push the screen/filter (washable and reusable) through the mixture compressing the grounds at the bottom and pour coffee off the top

I have a metal screen reusable filter for the aeropress, too. Sounds like the aeropress is easier. Easier to clean, too.

It’s has been a few years since I’ve had coffee from a French press, but loved it. Similar in quality to the Aero Press with the added benefit of being able to make multiple cups at once.

Have had the Death Wish. It tasted tad stronger than many French roasts. The caffeine level got to my heart within about 25 minutes. Did two cups one morning. Didn’t feel so great. Pulled the plug on any further DW experiments.

Sighhhhh, untill after my heart surgery no caffeine for me. So only decaf. I have found some that is pleasant, but none outstanding.

I do a french press for decaf in the evening, but there is always sludge in the bottom of the cup... I guess I need to grind the decaf coarser for a FP. Or get a Nespresso vertou.

MACS, any sludge in the bottom of the cup with the aeropress?

Appears to be the same concept except that the French press uses a permanent, fine metal mesh filter rather than disposable paper filters.

Stogie - No sludge or grounds and you can grind it as fine as you want. The paper filters are similar to regular paper coffee filters, but a bit thinner.

Rfenst - I also have a reusable metal mesh filter for the aeropress.

MEH, I have no interest in cleaning a screen filter or pressing anything. Guess I'm just not into coffee for anything other than the wakeup factor. Mr Coffee has always worked just fine. None of this one cup at a time chit.

Off to get in a 5 miler early and then we are headed to the mountain house for a maintenance day.

Morning, peoples

I did he death wish coffee for a while along with its Valhalla Odinforce variation. I was surprised at the smooth flavor of both. Figured it would just be a high octane gimmick that tasted like, well, octane. Was pretty good coffee overall

Can't speak too much to caffeine level. It did it's job fine, but that was a point in my life where I was around 75oz/day coffee intake. Differences in caffeine level kind of lose meaning at that point.
