I get new shoes on rare occasions...

I also buy really good shoes barely used at thrift stores or wherever...

I wear my new sneakers or boots to areas that they won't get dirty or ruined easily...then as they age...the wearing locations start to change...

Once they start getting worn, they get worn to flea markets or use them to mow the grass or do gardening...or to go hunting or fishing...

Once they get really beat, I use them to take out the trash, rake leaves, or wear while I paint the house...

The LOWEST RUNG ON MY SHOE LIFE IS:

Liquid black topping THE DRIVEWAY...

THEN I THROW THEM AWAY...

MY SHOES NEVER GET DONATED TO GOODWILL...

THEY TAR THE DRIVEWAY at the end OR THEY GET EATEN BY thE DOG And get thrown in the trash...

My progression….
-Best shoes go with the best clothes.
-Shoes that match casual wear. Sweatshirts, hoodies, tee shirts. Appropriate enough.clothing where I more or less match.
-Dogwalkers. Maybe a quick run to the store. That is it.
-Yard Work Status. Raking leaves, mowing lawn, picking up and burning of leaves and branches.
-River shoes. Two or three times a year, I set my butt in an inner tube and float down a lazy River and drink beer. The river slowly eats them away until the start to come apart. Once they get to that point….
-The Last Ride. Thank them for their dedication to serving my feet all those year, give them one more ride down the river, and they the get buried.

You should put them on a leaky inner tube and send them to the ocean...

That's classier than tar-ring the driveway though😁

Not close enough to the ocean. Suppose I could drive the 30 miles to Lake Michigan, toss them in there and they could make their way through the St. Lawrence Seaway and out into the Atlantic.

Enough duct tape can make shoes last forever. You're being quite wasteful, Jonsey

Ross, Marshall's or Nordstrom Rack has good deals on all kinds of shoes.

I have work boots for the yard and stuff.

I have "dog park" shoes that I don't mind getting dirty with puppies stepping all over my feet, etc... and then I have my workout shoes.

Good pair of runners gonna cost you... The Running Store or Roadrunner Sports. OR... you go there to figure out what the best pair of shoes for you is, and to size them... then you get them on the cheap off Amazon.

I used an old Italian cobbler who operated a shop about a mile from home when I lived in Downey...barely understood what he said as he spoke with a heavy accent...but he did great work, making my worn leather dress shoes and boots look brand new for about 25% of replacement cost...never gave a chit about current shoe fashions so I always bought conservative looking ones without trending designs like buckles, pointed or blunt toes...

since I retired, rarely wear leather dress and work shoes -- only for weddings and funerals...our family gatherings are always casual affairs...

nowadays almost always wear some rubber sliders around the house and neighborhood, or cloth athletic shoes for all other occasions...I've used shoe goo to bulk up the heels and soles of fave pairs with uppers that are still intact...toss the ones with worn soles and heels with tears in the uppers

About everything I ware are casual and athletic shoes.

Around the house and out: Keen Yogi sliders - they last about 10 years but expensive

Daily walks and hikes: Asics Gel Venture trail runner - I have about 7 pairs in rotation at any time as I walk about 35 miles per week. After initial 30-40 miles the heels are repaired with Shoe Goo which lasts for another 15 miles depending on surface I'm on. Been using Asics for the last 42 years for all marathons that I ran plus all training. I can get these for about 50% off on eBay as long as I don't care what color.

Several people on here have mentioned
"Shoe Goo" ????

I have no idea what that is???

What does it do?

Is it like wet goo that you put on heels to replace worn
Heels? Do you let it dry then file / sand it?

^its like rubber cement Jones.

I’ve been buying redwing boots. The expensive ones. Cost about 300 ish for a new pair. I wear them 5-6 days a week. I did take them to a cobbler for new soles. Cost 60 bucks. I’m considering getting them done again. Problem I have with them now is even wet grass seems to get my feet wet. I oil them pretty often. Can’t decide. I got those boots in 2018. They really don’t owe me anything. I’ve got two new pair of work boots. So it’s more of a hate to throw those out type of situation

Well shoot Jake, Jones looks like an 11d to me.
Drop em in any dumpster around the coordinates given above. Spread some heirloom tomatoes, scratch-offs & scrap metal around & our own Mr Jones who saved us all from a d.I.r.T.y B.o.M.b. attack may just enjoy your lightly used Redwings.

I tried to bomb Jonsey once but protocols wouldn't allow it.
Godspeed Jake, you have your mission.

Jones our annual Christmas party at the Swedesboro lounge is 12/23
You & a+1 really ought to come as my VIP guests
Pm me & I'll get your overnight accommodations sorted.
