I thought that was their stance all along, that they wouldn’t raise the price but rather shrink the size of the product so they could still sell it for a buck.

That's the result of the inflation tax...pay the same but get less or pay more and get less.
Inflation is evil, there is no place for it in a free market economy which means we really don't have one in the true sense thanks to the FED and an interventionist government.
